We shook hands on the project in early June 2006, stupidly omitting the formality of a signed contract (although we've worked with several contractors on that basis in this area before). Mr. Gordon said he would complete the project the following week. He did not begin work for several weeks, and made very sporadic progress throughout the summer, offering excuses such as emergency projects for other clients and difficulty getting employees to assist. The job was "completed" in late Oct., but the quality of the work was marginal at best. The retaining wall looks unfinished and the grass was never installed. Without a signed contract we can't, of course, prove that the project is unfinished. We have a larger project that we would have had Mr. Gordon bid on had this project gone well, since his pricing seemed reasonable. As it stands, we would not rehire or recommend Badger State Excavating under any circumstances.
Description of Work: Stabilize erosion of sandy soil under deck of cabin in northern WI by installing rock, landscape timber, small retaining wall, and grass.
