Badgerland Exteriors

Over promised and under delivered on quality of work, timing, and price. They made multiple mistakes that we had to point out, they damaged our property, it took over a year for our roof and siding to be completed, and they charged us over $3,000 for work they did not perform. Even after correcting the invoice, we were still out thousands of dollars and a lot of time from going with Badgerland Exteriors instead of most likely any other contractor. It would have been a one star review, but they gave us gutter guards and a small refund to compensate for some of the many issues.

The first rain after the new roof and the gutters were still leaking. They came back to get the extra materials and I pointed out the leaking, was told they would order new gutters (at cost to me of part and labor) and repair within a few weeks. That was in June. We have been asking for updates every since then and are told, they are ordering the parts, they will be here next week, next week comes and goes and another email, asking where they are and still no gutters. I am regretting using Badgerland and at this point I'm looking for another contractor to complete the work.

For the most part very well. The siding crew was not very conscientious about debris and left a lot for us to remove, especially from landscape around  the house.

us as it was a very difficult situation with the insurance, lots of

additional items taken care of like gutter screens and additional trim
to make the job look better. 
Quality work, fair price, timely,   and pleasant to work with are just a few remarks.

Everything  has gone very well. Ryan met with our insurance adjuster when he came out to check the damage. The adjuster agreed we did have damage just as Ryan and Ken had told us. When they did replace the shingles on the roof the crew really did a good job of cleaning up our yard. The roof was done in one day.

From the very start Badgerland was professional, honest and deliverd exactly what I needed.

Our home received hail damage in a storm in early 2011. After getting estimates from contractor's, talking to neighbors and multiple appointments with insurance adjustors we chose to give our business to Badgerland Exteriors. I spent many hours dealing with insurance and selecting this company. Not to mention referring this company to others who have used their services. They were at our home when promised, worked diligently on our roof and cleaned up the job site well. We were happy with the roof repair. However after the "money making" job was complete we were told that the five pieces of siding we needed replaced just wasn't a big enough job for them or worth their time. It is now almost a year later, I stilll have holes in my siding. It is hard to find someone to replace a few pieces. I went with Badgerland Exteriors because I needed a roof AND siding.

Overall, my experience with Badgerland Exteriors was very positive!  My roof, siding, gutters, downspouts, and copper mailbox were all extensively damaged in a spring hail storm.  So bad, in fact, that my insurance adjuster called my roof a "nightmare".  Soon after the hail storm, my neighborhood was crawling with storm chasers, many of whom are located out-of-state, but yet have local addresses and phone numbers to fool you into thinking they are local.  As a single mom, I was very fearful of being taken advantage of in a situation such as this, and then have no recourse when I may find my roof was improperly installed a few years down the road and the roofing company who installed it being nowhere around.  As a result, I really tried to do my homework, which prompted me to join Angie's List.  Although Badgerland Exteriors did not have any ratings on Angie's List at the time, they had just performed work on my father's house (who is in the construction business) and consequently had the most responsive representative (Brian James) out of all the roofing companies I had contacted for quotes, including even the top rated company on Angie's List, who never bothered to show for their appointment to give me a quote!

Brian was very understanding of my fear of being taken advantage of, and as a result, was very patient with me and went above and beyond in terms of doing what he needed to do in order to gain my trust.  He did not push me to sign a contract on the spot as many of the storm chasers had tried to do, and in fact, left a copy of the contract with me to review and think about until I was comfortable signing it.  Although this was something Brian is not really supposed to do, if his boss reads this, he should know that it is a VERY BIG reason why Badgerland Exteriors got my business and other companies did not.  I really appreciated the fact that Brian did not pressure me into anything I wasn't ready to do!

Upon signing the contract, Brian took care of contacting my insurance adjuster and taking care of everything that needed to be done in order to get my claim moving.  I have a small insurance company, who does not own the software (Exactimate?) that most larger insurance and roofing companies have in order to estimate the cost of a roof repair ... but Badgerland Exteriors did, which helped Brian to negotiate with my insurance adjuster to get me an entirely new roof, downspouts, gutters, and even got me money to cover replacing my beloved copper mailbox and chemically power washing my back deck.  While I can't comment on price as I never received a loss statement from my insurance company for the reason stated above, and therefore I don't know how Badgerland Exteriors would compare to other roofing companies on price, I can say that my insurance adjuster did comment to me on how easy Brian was to work with, and how well he knew his stuff ... a comment I took as a good sign after hearing many of my neighbors complaining about how their insurance adjusters had very adversarial encounters with the representatives from the roofing companies they were considering hiring.

When it came time to pick out the shingles, Brian brought over only one brand of shingles to choose from, although several options within that brand.  Again, as I was trying to really do my homework with this project, I had researched shingles on Consumer Reports, and even though the brand Brian had brought over was included in the CR report, another brand scored higher, and I really wanted to see these shingles before I committed to anything.  Brian understood, and made the effort to go back to ABC Supply to get the specific brand of shingle I wanted to see, and made a 2nd trip over to the house to show me those shingles side-by-side to those he had originally brought me to review.  I did end up choosing the higher rated shingle, and Brian was fine with that, which eased my concern about his possibly making more of a commission on a cheaper shingle that wasn't rated as well.

When it came time to replace my roof, the crew was delayed by a day due to the crew leader's wife being hospitalized suddenly, which was no big deal.  They were here bright & early the next business day, and tore off my roof and replaced it in a little over a day.  The gutters and downspouts went on shortly thereafter, followed by the siding.  All the crews kept to themselves and were very professional and friendly when I did encounter them.  They cleaned up well after themselves, and I found no nails in the grass afterwards, which was a big concern being that I have a 6 and 8 year old, along with a dog.

Brian quickly followed up with me afterwards, and walked me around the house, pointing out the improvements they had made to my roof (ridge vents vs. turtle vents) and generally just made sure I was happy with the work that was done.  He provided me with their 5 year warranty and said I would be receiving a check soon for the cost of replacing the mailbox and the chemical power washing of the deck.

In closing, my experience with Brian James & Badgerland Exteriors was very positive!  I would hire them again, and would definitely recommend them to anyone considering hiring a LOCAL contractor to do a roofing job on their home!  Call Brian James at (608) 333-5577!

P.S.  When I called Brian to let him know that I hadn't yet received the check they had put in the mail for the cost of the mailbox and the chemical power washing of my deck almost 2 weeks after they said they had mailed it, Brian immediately went back to the office and had them hand-write me another check and personally delivered it to my home that very same day!  Now that's exceptional customer service! :)  Thank you, Brian! :)
