It was one of the best investments we've made. Ken Richter assessed the energy usage in our entire home, created a plan for reducing our energy signature and put it all together into one package that qualified for the 30% Federal Tax Credit (that's real cash...not a deduction).
Our geothermal system has been marvelous. Not only has it saved us a substantial amount on our heating bills (LP gas), we now have a very comfortable, even heat throughout our home and in the summer, we have a wonderfully cool home (which was a previous problem using a conventional AC system which couldn't keep up and was very costly. Our home is about 4000 square feet and has 43 windows, a cathedral ceiling and a loft...yet, the geothermal system Richter Heating & Cooling installed handles it well.
Our payback on this investment will easily be less than ten years - probably quicker with the escalating costs of heating fuel.
Service performance? Basically, there's been nothing to do. The system is simple and other than increasing our make-up air and changing filters every 5 weeks (we run our fan continuously for air flow on all three levels), we've not had much need in the way of service calls. Richter Heating and Cooling has been here, just to ensure everything is working fine and being local, it's nice to know that if we do need something, he's nearby.
Ken Richter is a very knowledgeable HVAC professional and an ethical businessperson. He likes to know the people he serves and follows up well. Strategically, he warehouses everything from his rural home in St Croix Falls in order to keep his overhead low (who needs a fancy showroom for furnaces anyway?), but he installs American Standard and other high quality equipment and covers all warranty service. We have been nothing but impressed with him.
