The roofing job looked good until 9 months later. We had a series of warm days and we noticed that our roof was starting to look wavy. Within a week, our roof facing the north was heaving from one end to the other and this continued to get worse over the next month. Tony Berna came out to look and said he had never seen anything like it in his 30 years of business. The second time he came out he had another gentlemen come out and take a look. The third time he came out to our house, his wife Linda came out to help him work the camera in order to take pictures. He said he was going to contact the Brown County Home Builders Association and send the pictures to them for advice. He also said in front of his wife Linda Berna, that he would fix it and make it right and that I could trust him to do so. I told Tony Berna that I was going to ask another local roofer Jack Schwartz to come out for a second opinion, since he was one of the 3 roof estimators we had come out to the house in the 1st place and would know what the roof originally looked like. Tony Berna said that Mr. Schwartz was going to say it was the roof vent that was causing the problems and that Mr. Schwartz would be wrong. I had Mr. Schwartz come out and he said the following: 1) The roofer Tony Berna installed an inferior roof venting system for the pitch and style of home. He recommended that we replace with a "Shingle Guard Two Ridge Vent System."; 2) The zinc stripping under the ridge vent needed to extend all the way to the ends of the peaks, not stop short 4' from the end; and 3) Yes, he has seen this happen a number of times in his 30 years experience when called out for a second opinion or estimate to fix someone else's work. Tony Berna never called me back with regards to the Brown County Builders association. He went out of state to work on a job which he had forewarned me that he would be tied up for months. I finally contacted him last week Sunday and 8 days later he finally contacted me to say he would be out to our that evening. Tony Berna arrived after 5pm and said he would replace the roof vent, but that he was not the cause of any damage. I reminded Tony Berna of what he had said each of the 4 times he came out in a 2 day period when we originally contacted him for the heaving roof. " I will fix this and make it right, you can trust me, but you need to give me some time. I gave him time and then he lied to me in return.
Description of Work: Tony Berna and his son reroofed our story and a half log home and our detached garage.
