It went terribly. Handy Harry seems to use a lot of subcontractors. They gave me the bids, and I signed them. I trusted this local business, but I shouldn’t have. They didn’t show up on one occasion, and I had to call twice to get them to return. When I realized how easy these fixes were, I called to tell them that they had way overcharged me. The manager told me that I had signed the contracts. I called to talk to the owner 4 times!! I wanted an explanation! I left my number, as they wouldn’t answer my calls. The owner never called back. Handy Harry is an unprofessional business. I will never use them again.

Harry came and gave me the estimate. We agreed on price and time frame. His people showed up on time and went directly to work, explaining their work as they went. They progressed and finished on time, provided some helpful hints to make sure things stay in the shape they left them in. They did a quality job, worked diligently and overall finished ahead of schedule.

BEWARE OF THE BAIT AND SWITCH of materials!!!! Plus, he hides behind his LLC (limited liability) and refuses to correct shotty work!!!! ALL services are sub-contracted out and depending upon who you get depends upon the workmanship. My entire house has light oak trim and light Oak VENEER doors but, when I had Handy Harry replace two bathroom doors (due to damage), HE CHOOSE to replace them with LAMINATE even though for the 32" GOLDEN OAK SLAB DOOR I was charged $65.83 (plus, 2 hours labor @ $65.00 per hour to replace upper bathroom door and inside trim) and $112.68 for the lower bathroom door and jamb (plus, 3 hours labor to remove the old door jamb and install the new door and trim). I recall our conversation at the time with Harry stating that it will be difficult to match the color exactly so I should expect a SLIGHT difference in the color; I agreed since I understand that oak veneer 'yellows' with age due to sun exposure (I wasn't born yesterday) BUT, at no time did he mention that he would be replacing with laminate. Unfortunately, when the work was completed I had renters in my house and to their eyes (they obviously don't know the difference between veneer and laminate) told me that everything looked good. However, when I moved back into the property 10 months later, it took me about 10 minutes to notice that instead of replacing the doors, jamb & trim with original material (oad & oak veneer) it was all replaced with laminate !! Also, I noticed that the upstairs door had the oil rubbed bronze hinges and handle re-installed onto the new door however, the second bathroom door still had the bronze door hinges on it (apparently, my oil rubbed bronze hinges were not removed from the damaged door). Fast forward, Harry was very accommodating about coming to look at the doorS; he made his notes, took pictures and said he'd let me know when the re-install would be. Again, we had the conversation about the potential color difference and I told him that I understood. HOWEVER, when the guy came to install ONE (not two) doors wanted to look at the door that was being replaced because the trim he had in his truck didn't match the color of the door that was in the truck and just wanted to make sure before he started dismantling anything. Now, from our conversation I understand that HARRY does all the purchasing (normally at Menard's) and that even this guy said it's hard to believe that you'd have the right color for the trim but, have a DARK STAINED DOOR. He and I had a conversation regarding that Harry is supposed to be replacing BOTH DOORS (not just one) and that the doors need to match the trim color that HARRY purchased. I waited about a week and didn't hear anything so I called Handy Harry and was told by the receptionist that HARRY DECIDED THAT I WAS BEING TOO DIFFICULT AND THAT HE WON'T BE REPLACING ANYTHING ... really, difficult, I just want the materials that I PAID for to be installed. Also, the door handle on the upper bathroom moved; so when I removed the door handle I discovered that the handle was installed on the WRONG side of the hollow core door (since hollow core doors have a RIGHT side for installing the door handle because that's the side with WOOD to keep the handle stablized... anyway, maybe it came that way but, whoever installed the door had to notice but, installed the handle anyway. PLUS, apparently after the door was installed it didn't line up with the latch faceplate on the door jamb so the faceplace was moved about 1/2" up leaving a HUGE gap between the bottom and where the latch used to be....looks horrible. Anyway, Harry's explaination was that apparently the door 'settled' causing the need to adjust the location of the latch faceplate. He told me that he's had to go into SEVERAL properties and adjust door latches because of 'settling' .... REALLY, in the 22+ years of owning homes I've NEVER had to have an interior door latch adjusted due to 'settling'. He's outgrown his ability to MANAGE this company; that's not only my opinion but, the opinion of others that I've spoken too Everyone says he USED to do a great job but, he's gotten too BIG and is unable to sustain the hight quality of workmanship that he WAS once known for. It's unfortunate but I will NEVER have him do any work in my house.
Description of Work: Replace the two damaged bathroom doors (the upstairs door & trim and the downstairs needed the door, jamb & trim replaced). I had to replace the double pane window in my living room and initally was also going to have a smaller clear glass pane replaced with a frosted pane.

All work is sub-contracted out so it's sort of a 'crap-shot' whether you get good results or bad. The storm door was installed by one guy and looks/works perfect; however, the interior doors were installed by someone else and apparently didn't question why laminate doors were used to replace Oak Veneer doors. After making arrangement to have the doors reinstalled with Oak Veneer doors and Oak trim it was discovered that the 'replacement' door was oak veneer but had a DARK stain and the trim that was purchased matched the trim in my house. So the sub-contract said he'd let Harry know about the 'misunderstanding' and that I would hear back from him. I waited a week and called. I told the person that answered the phone what happened and she told me that she's pass the message onto Harry. I waited four days and called back and was then told that she spoke with Harry and he decided I was being too difficult and he wouldn't be correcting anything. I was being too difficult because 1) he installed the wrong material the first time and then 2) he thought I should have dark oak doors with light trim installed and I'm being difficult. Long story short ... DO NOT USE THIS GUY .... Not only DOES he use THE BAIT AND SWITCH (charges you for Oak and then installs laminate) but, he doesn't stand behind neither the materials or poor workmanship.
Description of Work: Replace two interior doors and trim, install a front storm door, replace front window double pane window (all labor is completed by sub-contractors). Price included materials and labor.

I was very pleased with the service. In addition, the price was well under the estimate. I certainly would recommend.
