Terrible. They showed up late. Spent most of the morning carrying one box at a time and socializing. The lead guy spent more time on his phone than I think moving. At one time I saw him carrying a very large piece of furniture while talking on his phone. As they were moving stuff out they damaged the wall which I had to quickly repair and broke a light bulb which I had to replace - all without even telling me they had done it. They moved extremely slow and all over the house. Instead of taking one room at a time, they would take stuff from one room and move to another and back and forth. They wasted so much time, I had to move back my closing time twice because of them. Then they ran out of room in the truck and I had to wait another hour for a second truck. They were unprepared, unprofessional, and just a total lack of respect for my time and possessions. I think they knew they damaged my kitchen table because they would have seen it when they put the top back on the table but never said anything to me. I think speaks volumes to the character of the movers this company hires; not to mention them not saying anything earlier about the damage to the house I was moving out of. I think they packed the truck so full trying to get it all in one load that they didn't protect anything. As I'm slowly unpacking and putting stuff away, I have lost count of how many pieces of my furniture has been damaged. My kitchen table which is solid oak which has the leaf underneath. They completely destroyed the mechanism for getting the leaf from underneath the table to the top. It's completely useless now. My large curio cabinet which they took care in wrapping around the glass, damaged the base of the unit. My exercise bike, they broke off the heart rate monitor on the handle bar that I can't even use it now. I'm finding so much damage that it will cost me more to replace or repair the items than I paid for the moving.

I think maybe the guy thought that we were tired from moving and exhausted and could get away with charging way more than what he said it would be. He charged us the time it took him to drive from his last job to his home, which I don't even know where his job was. They had given us a quote over the phone, based on what we had told them it would take 2 hours and, I don't know I think I have it written down. It took them 2 1/2 hours so not that much outside of the quote. They said that was going to be about $200 and it ended up being over $500. It also took them a really long time to drive between the two houses. We were in our regular car, they were in the truck. It took us 20 minutes and it took them 55 minutes and we got charged for all of those 55 minutes. I don't know what they were doing. He's like, it's hard driving a truck, but it was all highway. They didn't break anything. We had them move a dresser and a desk, we moved all the boxes ourselves.

Men worked hard and fast. Problem was cost. I purchase an Angie's list's deal of $300 for $150. The young men arrived about 8:00 AM and worked until about 10:30 AM.  The cost was $600.  What I did not know is that they had to travel 2+ hours and I had to pay that.  I was not aware of the travel costs.  l think such information should given to the purchaser prior to selling it.

Overall it went very well.  They arrived promptly and quickly got to work.  They worked steadily and efficiently.  They were great kids and young men who were friendly, outgoing and helpful.  When we had them move a heavy china hutch up stairs and then back down when we changed our minds, they said no problem and got right to it.  They were very careful and got through the move without breaking anything.
Our cost was a bit higher than estimate, but that was due to a couple of issues with the storage unit (couldn't get their truck close the storage unit and had to use dollies) and the fact that we had a bit more at the house than we thought when I talked with them. This required a second trip which added some transit time, plus the time associated with the addition stuff.
I would recommend them without hesitation.

Brandon and his assistant (sorry I can't remember his name) actually arrived ahead of schedule, which work perfectly for me.  After a short walk through, the two of them went right to work.  Initially, I was a little concerned when told it would be done on an hourly rate but, once they got to work my concerns quickly vanished.  They worked incredibly effeciently and everything was loaded in an hour. From start to finish it tood 2.25 hours (which included a 15 minute drive to the storage unit).  Having retired from the military, I've dealt with plenty of movers and I have to say these two were very impressive.  I was extremely pleased with both their professionalism and the efficiency in which they worked.  I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND A-1 MOVERS.  Once I know exactly where I'll be settling (Madison or Minneapolis) I will definitely contact A-1 for a quote.

They came up from Praire du Sac, WI & arrived at 8:00AM and were loaded by 9:00 (I'd packed pretty well!). They drove to Decorah, about 170 miles, unloaded at two locations and returned home. 12 hours @ $120 per hour.

They showed up on time and then worked their tails off for 6+ hours. I never even saw them take a break. They were friendly, thorough, and good communicators. They moved our furniture carefully and at a fair price.
