I put a request for contractors proposals out on Craig's List. I got 8 responses. These were very hungry contractors, all assuring me that they could do the job. The quotes were all about the same (except for two "outliers" which were rejected). Personalities and experience were hard to choose between, but none of them really made us feel very confident.
Then I read a review of Tim's work on the Solar Energy Fair blog from 2008. Two people raved about Tim, so I gave him a call.
We hired him. He tried to start the work in Fall of 2009, but between the County rezoning permit lag, and the weather... he didn't get too far.
But he plowed through the winter (pun intended), shoveled snow out of the inside of the construction before the roof was on, framed in cold and wet weather. They completed the 3,800 square foot home by late April, and we got to start moving in by May.
It is just what we wanted.
