Allways Flooring

The owner's helper was prompt, neat and thorough. The job was to include plumber services for installing new vanity and sink. The helper was having trouble with the installation of the vanity and left it for the owner to inspect and finish. The owner was also supposed to haul away old flooring debris and old vanity. The owner went over his estimate but because the extra work went into the sub floor, I understood. He insisted on cash and I insisted on a receipt. He told me his wife takes care of that and would send it in the mail. I, instead, had him sign and date his original estimate with a paid in full scrawled across the invoice. The helper came back one more day and told me the owner would have to finish up. I never saw the owner again. He has not returned my calls and now he hangs up on me when I call so I can no longer leave a message. My messages were kind and just asking when I could expect him. I am now stuck finding someone else to finish the vanity work and trim which was left undone surrounding the vanity. I also have to find someone to haul away the debris and pay a tipping fee as the city will not pick this stuff up. Lesson learned. I should have withheld some of the money until all the work was finished. But here is the worst part. The day the guy was supposed to start, the owner called me at 6 a.m. I anticipated him telling me there would be a delay. Instead I was asked if I wanted to cuddle. Huh? I told him that was what my cat is for and assumed he was joking until he started asking me about my marital status. I met the man only once before when he came over to give me an estimate on the job. I stuck to business and he backed off. A couple of days later, I told him what a gem he had in his helper. He was doing a great job and cleaned up all the mess after each work day. His reply was to say the helper was kind of quiet, but get a few drinks in him and not only will he jabber your ears off, but he'll hump your leg like a dog! There were a couple other inappropriate remarks made. Suffice it to say, I was glad I only dealt with him a couple of times on very short appearances. His helper was a gentleman. I am appalled by this unprofessional encounter. I am not sure what to do about it. It is almost Christmas and my dining room and kitchen are filled with stuff that is normally in the bathroom. I need to paint, but I don't want to start until the vanity is installed as the next guy may nick up the paint job. I am skipping Christmas as I can't clean until all the stuff is back in the bathroom and I can get rid of all the construction dust. I could never recommend this guy. It is a pity his good worker isn't off on his own as I have only praise for him and his work.
