About us

Since its inception in the 1940’s, WJ Kuhn Automotive Center has been a family owned and operated business. While a lot has changed over last 70 years, our commitment to quality and customer service has not. Kuhn Automotive was originally known as Kuhn Sales & Services. During those times rich men road in Zeppelins and the country was in the middle of World War II. Kuhn Sales & Service was located at 3860 S. Howell Ave and provided parts and merchandise for cars, trucks, homes and farms. In the 1970’s the company moved 6 miles south, where it currently resides at 8511 S. Howell Ave, Oak Creek, Wisconsin 53154. Back then Kuhn was strictly a tire retreading company. As the country changed so did Kuhn Automotive. Cars became more affordable and the need for reliable auto repair shops rose. Out of this Kuhn Automotive had evolved into a full service automotive repair and collision shop. In April of 2003 Scott Brooks and Matt Merschdorf became the new owners of Kuhn Automotive. Scott has managed several automotive businesses from 1988 to 1999. From 1999 to 2003 Scott was the district manager of a retail and wholesale company. Matt Merschdorf holds a Master ASE certification and has over 20 years of automotive repair experience. Today, our staff consists of highly trained automotive technicians and body shop specialists. Our technicians have over 40 years of automotive repair experience. Our body and collision experts have 25 years of experience and hold several certifications, including I-Car Gold. We strive to provide the highest level of professionalism and quality to our customers. We take the time to listen to all of our customer’s needs and provide honest estimates and reliable repairs. Our A+ rating at the BBB is a testament to our continued commitment to quality and care.

BEST AUTO SHOP EVER I PROMISE YOU!!!!! GO TO WJ KUHN!!! We took our car to WJ Kuhn for a couple of punctured tires and while our car was in the shop a small tear was accidentally done to my drivers side leather seat I assume by a hard working mechanic with a forgotten pencil or such in their back pocket. I didn't notice it until the day after the repairs and we took it back to the shop and spoke with the owner about the damage done. Let me tell you the owner could have accused us of running a scam on them but he did NOT. He wanted to do right by us and he most certainly did and just on our word no actual proof that the damage was even done in his shop. He ordered the replacement of the very expensive leather upholstery and fixed the seat within days. Now you may think this review should deter you from wanting to go to WJ Kuhn but I hope it actually does the opposite. Instead I intend to encourage you to go to this awesome auto shop! Hey accidents happen people but how many times have we all had to bite the bullet for someone else's mistake that they wouldn't own up to? NOT in this shop though. The integrity of this shop owner was amazing and they have earned our, our families and friends respect and trust. They earned our business for as long as their doors are open! WJ Kuhn IS the type of place that will NOT cheat you or price gouge you. This IS the ONLY place you should want to go if you want to be treated with respect and receive fantastic service!! It was a minor inconvenience for us as customers and a large loss of profit for them but I hope the owner will be repaid 10 fold for his integrity. This review is made by real customers who applaud WJ Kuhn for their professionalism and integrity regardless of a small mishap!! I now have a trustworthy auto shop I can depend on without a doubt!! Seriously people go to WJ Kuhn for honest and amazing service!!!!! You won't be disappointed I assure you. :)
