Steve poured my driveway in early May. The city notified me in June that he never pulled a permit and did not follow city standards. When notified of this issue he vanished and has not made correct on the work he was paid for.

The owner Steve was great throughout the process. Met him at a Home Show in Spring 2015 and was one of the first contractors to provide a quote. After meeting with a few other contractors over the summer, Steve was one of the best on price and moved forward with the job in Fall 2015 that met my family's timeline. Overall the job went smoothly with minor hiccups. I was promised 2 days pending weather and the job was completed in 2 days. Steve wanted to make sure my wife and I liked the shape of the patio before pouring and we did make some last minute changes. With no questions asked, Steve made the changes and had his crew touch up on other areas before pouring like re-cutting a straighter line between the existing driveway and the new patio. The only negative is that my wife and I wanted a picture frame border with a broom finish on the patio. This was reiterated as they started pouring to ensure Steve and his crew knew exactly what we wanted and previously discussed. Unfortunately for us, we didn't get the picture frame finish as requested and discussed on multiple of times as Steve's crew completed the entire project with a broom finish. We are lucky that this finish matches what we already have for a driveway, but disappointing to not have what we wanted and thought we were getting. It's not the end of the world for us, but when you aren't going with a color or stamped concrete, we thought this finish would help with the aesthetics of the patio.

My husband & I found Morici Brothers Concrete at the Home & Garden Show. In the summer of 2012 we hired them to put in a stamped concrete patio and gas firepit. We did our due diligence (we thought) & went to the homes of other customers to see his work & it looked great (the houses we visited were family members of his).
As soon as the work was complete our firepit was making a loud whistling sound. After several trials and error, he found out that the wrong tubing was used to install the gasline. Our newly laid stamped concrete had to be cut open and the tube had to be pulled out and replaced. The key for the firepit was also put in the ground (as opposed to in the side of the firepit) so it constantly fills up with rain and gunk and is very difficult to turn on as well as a hazard for tripping on.
The following Spring 2013, just 9 months after the patio was poured, it started to crack and crumble off in several areas. They did come back to look at it and put a ?patch? on the crack and resealed the patio. The patch has since cracked and crumbled and looks worse than it did in the first place.
Spring 2014, the firepit bricks started to come off and the patio continued to crack and crumble in places. Morici did send someone over to look at and to replace the bricks around the firepit. The laborer cut slots into the bricks and cut all the way through to the 2nd layer of bricks leaving cut marks on every brick that don't line up.
We are now in Summer 2015. The patio continues to crack and crumble and the top appears to be ?peeling? off in certain areas. I have tried to contact Morici several times and sent him pictures but I get no reply.
I can?t tell you how disappointed we are. We truly liked the owner and thought he was a
good guy but now my husband and I are left with a crappy looking patio and it
will cost us twice as much to have it ripped up and re-done, money that we don?t
have right now. We thought we were paying
extra for something amazing and it is nothing but junk. We are truly sick about it.

He did the work but the color is coming off leaving spots of white concrete showing through all over the walk. Our old concrete colored walkway he did not replace is still fine. I called him and told him about the problem. He came out to look at the concrete and said he would fix it. He never came back. Numerous calls have been place to ask when he would fix this problem. He doe not return our calls.

The concrete job was done well but the problem is the owner of the company failed to pay his subcontractor and now I'm liable for the bill of $2200 he owes them. He responded to one of my emails and none of my phone calls and has refused to respond since. I've tried getting in contact with him multiple times and he ignores me and now I have a lien on my property from the subcontractor he hired. If I don't pay the subcontractor, the lien will go into effect on my property because Morici Bros failed to uphold their commitment. I've never dealt with a company before who hires a subcontractor that supplies them what they need to get the job done, fails to pay them, and then the subcontractor comes after me. Instead of dealing with this the right way, Morici ignores my phone calls after he responded to my first email about it.
I got the lien notice in the mail about a month after the job was done and I immediately contacted Morici about it. He said that we were paid in full 100% and that he would take care of it. We have not heard anything from him since and that was December 4th and now its in mid-March.
I really can't believe this because the guys at his company did a great job on the driveway but this kind of treatment after the job is done is absolutely ridiculous. I now have to pay an extra $2200 to the subcontractor to get the lien off of my house which he should have paid in the first place. He never told me he was going to hire a subcontractor when he gave me the quote for the driveway. It was never mentioned on the quote either that a subcontractor was going to be hired for the concrete so you can imagine to my surprise when I received the notice in the mail that he failed to pay them.
I would be very apprehensive about hiring this company unless a month afterward you want to receive a lien notice in the mail that he failed to pay his subcontractor and now your quote just got a lot higher.

My initial impression from the estimate was a good one. I found later that there was a lot that he should have explained to me about concrete and what my options are. I did not understand that some of what was in other quotes that I got was not included in this quote. I probably would have gotten more quotes if I had understood that. After the initial quote, I decided to add stamping and changed the footprint for the job. The quote was ok, so we set a date.
I was also getting an electric line run to the garage that would be under the driveway, so I had to coordinate between the electrician and the concrete guys. The Friday before the date we had set I called to confirm the appointment. I was somewhat surprised that they had not called me. I had a hard time getting through and when I did I found out they were running 2 weeks late. They knew I was coordinating with another contractor and did not call me. After much juggling of schedules we set another date. When they came, the installers were decent crew, but they had been told to do the first quoted job. It was lucky I noticed they were setting the forms incorrectly or this would be been a big mess. Then I noticed that they did not have the steps right and they had to tear those forms up and redo that. They also did not know about the stamping, so it was a good thing I mentioned it while they were setting the forms. They had told the electrician to come the 2nd day, but when the electrician arrived, they were not ready.
To sum it up, their workmanship was OK, but was definitely not worth all the other grief I went through. Most of this would have been fine if they had just communicated with me. The stamping was only a "C". It was just barely ok. I was not thrilled. When I had talked to the estimator, he led me to believe that they were stamping experts. What I got was what I would expect someone just above novice level to do, not someone who was an expert.

When I called Morici Brothers for an estimate, Steve Morici was very prompt in returning my call and coming out to give me an estimate. He was knowledgeable and personable. The price was competitive. The day we had the work done, his crew arrived on time and worked efficiently. His foreman came back Friday night to put on some finishing touches. The outcome-a new great looking concrete driveway.

We chose Morici Brothers because the estimate was the lowest cost and the estimator was very professional and willing to share information. We thought that we wanted stamped concrete for the walk and through our discussions during the estimate, really were helped to see that our stone house would not look best with the patterned walkway. Morici Brothers worked with our schedule for the walkway replacement as we were getting new flooring about the same time.
The work crew was excellent, professional and punctual. Work was completed within their estimated time and everything was cleaned up prior to their departure. There was a small hole in the front step (portion up to the house); Mr. Morici came to the house and filled it. It looks differently than the smooth surface around it.
Once the concrete cured, the owner returned to cut stress lines into the walkway. Due to the saw that he uses, he cannot get through to the ends of the walkway that abutt the garage and house. We did not understand the difference between hand cut and saw cut during the estimate process and did not know enough to ask. I learned this as he was cutting the stress lines.
One year later, there were stress cracks at all of the lines where the cut did not go through to the buildings; there is a large crack at the base of the steps where the walk meets the step and there are a few chips in the walk/steps.
We have attempted to get the cracks repaired with promises from the owner of Morici Brothers that he would make repairs to no avail. We have applied for binding arbitration through NARI. Through mediation we discovered that they did not adequeately pitch the walkway to drain water away from the windows to the basements and should not have poured the front step and walkway together. Morici Brothers agreed in mediation to make repairs. Morici Brothers did not make repairs in the time specified by mediation so we were scheduled for arbitration. Five days before the arbitration hearing Morici Brothers came to the house and made repairs. The repairs were as we agreed in mediation. We will probably have a new walk installed again.

Response from Morici Bros Concrete
"Members I fixed your job as per agreed on. Why do you need to trash my company. Please take this down. Thanks Steve J Morici"

I didn’t have any significant likes or dislikes for that matter of the company I dealt with. The man himself was very nice. He showed up when he said he was going to show up. He did what he said he was going to do and away he went. He is very knowledgeable in what he does for a living with the concrete. He was very professional and very dependable as far as the contractor is concerned.

. I made several attempts and he finally did reply to my calls. He did a really good job on the cement. There is a crack in the cement at the entrance and it is very noticeable. He said he would come out but he canceled out several times. Finally he came out and said that there was nothing he could do about the crack, he said that the crack is a quarter inch wide. It is not a quarter inch wide, it is very noticeable. I was very disappointed in that. But otherwise he did a really good job. He did a good job on leveling the driveway and around the house so that the rain water would go away. But in Spring we noticed a slight crack on the black which is normal probably because the house settles. He did come out after a while and he looked at it and said if it gets bigger he would take care of it. . It is a small crack at this point, it does not hurt anything. The drive was pitched terrifically so that the water will not get to it anyway. He said if the crack gets any worse he would take care of it. At this point of time I am very satisfied. This is the block right next to the house. It was almost expected because there was a big problem there to begin with. It was empty and he had to fill it with gravel and do a lot of work there and to the pad leading right up to the garage. At this point a crack did appear. I am holding on that it is only a crack, nothing is going down, and it is not that big. He says if it gets bigger he will take care of it. At this point everything is fine. Their price was reasonable.I suppose somebody could be cheaper. As for quality there is a crack which I am not shocked at. The point is if it gets worse he says he would fix it. He has come back and looked at it. As for punctuality he was there and he got it done quickly. They got it done in two or three days. As for being professional there is the crack which was expected. May be he was busy and that is why he did not come right away. But he did come. At this point of time that is all he can do. If it gets worse I don’t know. I would have them in the future. The only thing I did not like is that the cement company that sold them cement bothered us because he had not paid them and apparently said that they would put a lien on the house. I was not aware of that. Had I known I would have asked for a disclaimer on the lien. I was not aware that kind of stuff happened. At this point I am not bothered about that as he would have paid the cement company since then. That was bothersome. I told him of it and he called and told not to worry about it.
