My fiancé and I contracted with Renaissance Construction of WI in 2016 for a new construction home build. Apparently they are busy folks, as they don’t have much time for communications. Not sure what they are doing though, as I’m quite sure they didn’t build a house in 2016, and not aware of a build going on 2017 yet either. Six months after signing a preliminary contract, we still didn’t have final pricing or a final contract to build. We waited weeks, and sometimes months for a call or email to come to get things rolling. Finally it reached a point where they wouldn’t even tell us IF they were going to follow through and build us a house, much less tell us WHEN it would get built. So, in March 2017 we cancelled the preliminary contract. After a two month battle, we received approximately half our deposit back. They kept $454 more than we agreed to for lot clearing, and after paying thousands of dollars for architectural drawings, they told us we were not allowed to keep the drawings as they belong to the builder. After interviewing several other big-name builders that crank out 30+ homes per year, we discovered that Renaissance offers nothing that the big builders can’t do better and faster. And it’s not like Renaissance was going to save us much money. The new builder had better floor plans too, so Rencon can keep their second-rate floor plans! So we asked ourselves why even bother with a small-fry operation like this, when you can get prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable attention, as well as quicker service from a a big-name builder? The big-name builder has a sales associate with 25 years of experience in this area, and he did more for us in a two week period than Rencon did in six months. And to top it off, if we decide not to build with the big-name builder for any reason, we get our deposit back with no questions asked! Whatever money we thought we were going to save by going with the “small guy” was simply not worth the aggravation. We love our new sales associate, and he makes building a house fun and exciting! We will only think of Renaissance when we tell our friends how NOT to build a house. Bye-bye Renaissance, we won’t miss you at all!
