Electrical work including residential, commercial, industrial, garage wiring, trenching, post light wiring, wiring AC and furnace unit, pools, hot tubs, new construction, repair & diagnosis.
I used Walkowiak Electric to rework some wires as well as to add some outlets and can lighting to my kitchen. They did not take any precaution to prevent dust from going throughout the home. They stood directly on countertops. My wife and I spent 3 hours cleaning after they left. In addition, when they reworked some wires, they removed (in my opinion) a structural piece of wood because that was the easiest for them to move the wires. They did attempt to rework the wires again and replace the wood, however the piece of wood they used was too small so I ended up replacing the wood myself. (The wood they removed was a 1x4 notched into the balloon framing of which the joists sat on. The wood they replaced it was a 1x4 as well, however, different finish dimension than what was used when the house was built.) They had to add two new circuit breakers with the new outlets, and they used old, dirty circuit breakers. They indicated they were only going to use them temporarily and just forgot to tell me. They moved some furniture in the basement (counter and washing machine) of which they did not take care and ripped off the counter top and gouged the vinyl flooring. One of the light switches they reinstalled did not work properly when they left. They also installed a bathroom exhaust fan and that was not properly running when they left either. In the end, after 3 visits everything worked fine, but I would never use them again and would advise anyone else to stay clear.

They did a very nice job of putting a proposal together itemizing items so I could get an idea of what I wanted to do. I got the proposal and decided not to include items related to running electric to my shed. I had a very difficult time getting an updated proposal. On the proposal, it stated that they were not responsible for damage to drywall. I had a very difficult time finding out what the possible extent of the drywall damage could be. After signing the proposal, I set up a date for them to come at 7 AM. No one showed up. I could not get them to answer until 8 when I was told they moved my appointment to 9. I had pushed meetings back so I could be there to get everyone started. I ended up losing two hours of work and we had to reschedule for another day. They came and performed the work leaving insulation from the basement wall on the floor. Plus they did not vacuum after drilling. The day after the project was done. I got two voicemails within an hour. One stating that my credit card was lost and they would need me to call back and give the information. Less than an hour later I got another call saying that they were a POD company and didn't want to take this to collections. I had done nothing wrong yet now I am being threatened. I requested a lien waiver immediately upon paying the bill since they threatened me. It took me asking twice to get it. They did not call the building inspector when they were supposed to. I had to ask them twice to do it. When the building inspector came, he found that when tripping a GFI in the bathroom the garage one would trip too. All the GFIs were still tied together. The building inspector also noticed that there was an improper breaker lock in my circuit breaker. Walkowiak had done that work as a sub consultant to a previous contractor. They did come back and fix the work, but I again had to take time off of work. So a project that should have taken a day ended up dragging out for over a month, and I had to go into work three days opposed to one. They did offer a $50 coupon for future service call. Which is less than a 2% saving. The person who did the estimate was very nice. The people who did the work were friendly.
Description of Work: The work included: - new exterior outlet - Redo an exterior outlet so it was waterproof. - All exterior outlets and bathroom outlets were on the same GFI. The idea was to put them on separate GFIs so if one trip they did not all trip.

They were here a couple of days. They gave an estimate and we selected them. They came in and did the work quickly and efficiently. They were neat and clean. They cleaned up after themselves. They came back and installed a wall oven. Everything worked great when they were done and we were happy with the outcome.

We had an older electrical service panel with a history of safety issues so we needed to replace it with a new panel. Since we had 100 amp service, we also decided it would also be an ideal time to upgrade to 200 amp service. Dan Walkowiak came over and did a quote for us. He was very thoughtful and thorough his quoting approach, mindful of what potential code issues we were up against. It turned out we needed to have some plumbing work done to relocate a wash basin before we could have a correctly installed electrical service. Our inspector verified that Dan's concerns were right on. We have an older house so this thoughtful approach was what was required. Dan's quote was very competitive with one other quote we received from another company - in fact I think it was a bit less. The 2 guys that actually came to do the work were top notch. We are very fussy and they were very methodical and considerate of their surroundings in their approach to problem-solving. All the extra phone wires and old cable wiring in the vicinity of the job area was even tidied up for us - they really did go the extra mile and took the time that was needed to do the job in a solid, clean and workmanlike manner. For future electrical work, I will be seeking out Walkowiak Electric and requesting the same workers.

Job 1: Dan Walkowiak provided general contractor services for a new home built in Waukesha County, Town of Genesee, completed in 2005-06. Generally pleased with work, but some poor oversight of young journeymen electricians that left work in need of further work.. Some indoor outlets and can light fixtures failed to work or continuously blow/short circuit. Some exterior outdoor electric cover plates never installed. Slow to respond to complaints, and repair or replace defective work. Job 2: At a second job, reconstruction of older house in the central city in Milwaukee, work completed about 2008-09, circuit breaker rewiring for a two family was done. Home was vandalized during the reconstruction, and some of the electric service needed to be repaired. It was done slip shod, with major kitchen and living room circuits all on one breaker, light switches not connected to ceiling fixture, some wall outlets totally nonfunctional. Impossible to get him to stand behind his work and correct the problems. Eventually work had to be repaired by another contractor. Dan's work is generally excellent, but he does not oversee some of the work of his younger journeymen, who may be inexperienced and more prone to error. He never fully completed the work at this second job.
Description of Work: Job #1, ~2005, new home construction in Waukesha County, Town of Genesee . (dates given above are approximate). Job #2, ~2008, reconstruction of older home on Milwaukee's north side (dates given above are approximate).

I was a little frustrated and disappointed on the day of service when it became apparent that the electrician hadn't been informed of what to do. But once everything was straightened out, it went great. He did break the globe on my ceiling fan light by mistake, but the owner stopped by the evening of 11/9 to install a replacment. He also fixed the thermostat on my gas heater - something that had been forgotten on the previous visit. What could have been a really problematic service call ended up working out great. I feel like the level of customer service is excellent and I will definitely be using them in the future.
Description of Work: I've used Walkowiak several times since they were the subcontractor on my air conditioning install. They've always done a great job. The most recent job was to repair some botched work that an incompetent contractor had performed in a closet build out. They had to come and fish a wire from inside the wall to a junction box in order to get power to the closet light. They had sent someone out this summer to trouble shoot the problem and he couldn't come up with a solution. So the owner came over and gave me an estimate of what it would cost to open up the walls, find the wire and finally get the problem fixed. The estimate was $725, which included dry wall repair after the work. I wasn't able to have them come back until November. Unfortunately they sent an electrician who had no knowledge of the previous work and wasn't familiar with the estimate. He spent nearly 4 hours trouble-shooting again before we got it straight that he was supposed to open up the walls and get the job done. I maintain that they deserve an A rating because they were so accomodating once this error was brought to light. Once the communication happened, the job was done quickly. The drywall was done the next day. First rate customer service. They didn't have a problem taking responsibility for the lack of communication and worked quickly to resolve the issue.

For starters, they were supposed to be here by a certain time. They were late by almost an hour. The guy kind of argued with me about the time he was supposed to be here when I questioned him. He did go right to work when he got here. Their price quote was not the best by far, but it was not the worst. We chose this company because they have been in business for a long time. We have had a few problems already. One of the breakers did not work. We called to have them come out and we set up the appointment. They were on time this time. He fixed the problem and wanted to charge us for coming back out. He ended up not charging us. We would not do business with this company again.
Description of Work: They upgraded our current 100 amp circuit breaker box to a full 200 amp circuit breaker service.

THIS COMPANY WAS SUB-CONTRACTED BY OUR REMODELING CONTRACTOR. EVERYONE WAS PROFESSIONAL AND COURTEOUS, BUT THERE WERE MANY COMMUNICATION PROBLEMS. OFTEN WE WERE ASKED TO MAKE THE SAME DECISIONS (EG, ABOUT LIGHTING, SWITCHES) THAT WE HAD ALREADY MADE WEEKS OR MONTHS EARLIER, BECAUSE THE WORKERS SENT TO DO THE JOB DID NOT HAVE THE PLANS, RESULTING IN CONFUSION AND SOME ERRORS. ALSO THE JOB WENT A COUPLE WEEKS OVER SCHEDULE BECAUSE THE COMPANY DID NOT SEND WORKERS WHEN THEY HAD BEEN SCHEDULED BY OUR CONTRACTOR. THE OWNER WAS RESPONSIVE TO OUR COMPLAINTS, HOWEVER, AND DID SEEM INTENT ON CORRECTING THE PROBLEMS. I CANNOT COMMENT ON PRICES BECAUSE OUR GENERAL CONTRACTOR DID NOT SHARE THIS INFO WITH US.
