The job requested was a very simple concrete job and some tuck pointing of grout on approximately 15 bricks. Before the tuck pointing should have been done a solid concrete footer was requested that would replace 6 bricks to get them off the ground level and prevent further water erosion and rodent infestation.
On the first day of the project Vertex sent out the wrong person to start the work. Vertex sent out the tuck pointer before the foundation was laid. Thankfully I was home at the time otherwise Vertex would have tuck pointed the bricks and then would have to remove them again to start over. A few hours after I sent the Tuck pointer away the Concrete person can to dig out the dirt for the foundation for the bricks.
The Concrete person was friendly and apologetic for the mix up and preformed the job setting the new concrete footer as stated on the contract. When the concrete footer dried the tuck pointer returned and did a reasonable job setting the bricks and tuck pointing them as requested. My wife and I were happy with this first part of the job.
The other side of the Garage, however, turned into a complete fiasco and convinced me that Vertex would NEVER get my business again.
On the second half of the job I was not home to watch them so they apparently decided that they didn?t have to worry about quality as long as the owner was not home. The concrete footer was not poured wide enough to set all the bricks directly on top of the footer and to continue the grout line on the last brick two bricks were placed horizontally to the footer and the grout lines on the above bricks were not even the same widths.
When I called the manager of the project about how terrible it looked the site manager told me that the Person doing the Tuck Pointing ?sent him a photo of it? and he said ?it looked fine to him?. The site manager even had the audacity to tell me to ?just kick out those two horizontal bricks when the mortar dries?. Than the site manager asked me when he could send someone down to ?settle up on the bill?.
Patrick was more worried about getting the other half of the bill than he was if I was satisfied. I informed the salesman, when he came to the house, that depending on how well this job went will decide on if we will pick Vertex to do our complete driveway in the near future. This VERY SMALL concrete job has most definitely shown us that Vertex will never get another concrete job, or recommendation, from me to any of my neighbors.
We are completely disgusted in the workmanship but more so in the management and professionalism of project manager.
ADDITIONAL NOTATION, 7-15-13
I received a call from Vertex, Nick, requesting to talk to me back in June. I was on vacation and took a few weeks to get back to him but when I did I never got a call back. I returned two calls to him on 6-19-13 and on 7-10-13. I am still waiting for him to return my call but I won?t be surprised if Vertex lets me down one more time.
