We were comfortable with Tom Uttke from the get go. We felt he was honest and fair. The price was very good compared to other estimates and the 10 year parts and labor warranty cost was a great value. The staff was very kind and courteous. It was a pleasure to have them working in the home. We had the system installed the Friday before Easter. Over the weekend the system had a communication issue with the thermostat, causing the system to fail. With the weather still quite cold, having heat was necessary. Tom and another staff member came to our home Easter morning to resolve the issue. Outstanding!

It went well. Tom's attention to detail was noticeable and much appreciated. For example, he installed foam insulation on two existing cold air returns that were located on exterior walls and installed a curved metal plate around an outlet that had been installed inside an upper unit cold air return to prevent air from the upper unit from circulating into the lower unit. He came up with a creative solution to get a supply duct to my upper unit bathroom. 
He was professional and efficient. He said it would take two days and it took two days. He followed all of my instructions and the price was exactly what he quoted. His quote was better than market. To top it all off, he left the place cleaner than he found it.

I scheduled an appointment with this company based on Angie's List reviews and the fact that they are a local, family-owned company. The appt. was for a specific issue with one of the two furnaces (we live in a duplex)--that seemed to resolve itself before the appt. date. So, I cancelled that one, and upon their recommendation--and it seemed appropriate--I rescheduled a "check-up" appt. for both furnaces. I was told to mention the original problem to the technician when he arrived, which I did. After about 40 minutes, I was called to the basement. He explained: he couldn't find anything wrong with the one furnace; and that while he "check-up"ing the other one, he loosened a ceramic piece involved with the ignition. He then went on to tell me how that piece isn't something he carries on his truck--and that if I experience any issues (during the upcoming winter months) with the furnace not turning on--that I would most likely have to special order that piece at a cost of $90.00 or so--but he wasn't exactly sure.... He then told me that he didn't have either furnace filter on his truck--which was listed as part of the "check-up" itinerary. But if I wanted him to replace them--he could--he just wasn't sure if I would be charged a service fee to do so. In the following months: the original issue with the one furnace has still not resurfaced. But the very issue he seemed to put into motion? Has indeed been worrisome. While the furnace never failed to ignite--it does experience quite a struggle to do so....

It went great!  Uttke is my first choice when I require HVAC work!  They respond quickly, explain what they're doing and work efficiently. 

Tom Uttke gave us an estimate for two different systems and we chose the one we felt best suited our needs. The work was done in the quoted amount of time for the quoted price. The work was excellent and we are very happy with the result and the company. There was an issue with draining for the system and the adjustment was performed quickly after we called about the problem.
We felt we had exceptional communication and service from them and have already contacted them about our boiler for repairs as well.

They did a good job 4 years ago when they replaced a bearing. The most recent time they came in to do the repair work, they didn't do a good job. They came in twice to see if they can fix it but, they couldn't. But, they cleaned the furnace the second time they came. So, we had to call in somebody else who tried really hard to fix the problem.

My 20 year old furnace and air conditioner gave out this year.  After getting several estimates from five different companies I called Uttke & Son's.  Tom, the owner, came out and provided me an estimate.  His estimate was higher than the other contractors but that was due to the size of the unit being recommended.  Tom recommended a top-of-the-line unit with an outstanding warranty package and a lesser unit with a good warranty, but not as good as the top-of-the-line. 
After comparing all of the estimates I could clearly see that the Trane unit that Uttke & Son's was recommending was the best system for the money being spent.  I also have had bad experiences in the past by using the cheapest contractor in order to save a buck.  In the long run I was disappointed.   So this time I ignored the cost and chose the company that I felt would do the best job.  I chose Uttke & Son's.
They came on the day we agreed on at the time we agreed to and stayed until the job was finished.  Tom stopped by to check on the workers installing the unit to ensure the work was being done properly and that I was satisfied with the work that was being done.  I am totally satisfied with the work and Uttke & Son's

I liked that they were available. They charged me for the cleaning but they didn't necessarily let me know that they were going to charge me, which I didn't like. I didn't really have a good baseline for the price. I was pleased with the quality of the service. They were very punctual.  I might use them again.

Workers came on schedule, brought in new furnace, worked until it was installed, tested and explained the new thermostat,cleaned up everything after he was finished.  Noticed the next day that there was some water on the floor, Workman came back the same day as my call to them and replaced an older pipe that was leaking condensation.  No problems at all since then

It went great. They were efficient and very friendly from start to finish. Only small delay was waiting for the electrician who got hung up at another job.

when they came I told them what the problem was, A/C & fan run but no cool air is blowing out. I thought it was the blower. He opened the unit & found that there was a leak from some hoses rubbing together. he sottered the hole & added coolant & the cool air began to flow.

Company responded quickly to my request for an estimate.  Tom Uttke showed up on time and explained my options.  Their estimate was very competitive and they were willing to work with my work schedule when setting up the installation date.  Installers showed up on time, worked quickly and cleaned up after themselves.  The electrician had to do a little creative installation of the electrical outlet box since the A/C unit lines had to be run from under/through a porch.  Once finished the installers gave me pointers on how to best use the central air and Aprilaire units.

Quick response and identification of problem. The recommended a valve replacement as well, which we chose not to pursue.

They were super personable. They did everything and they were the best. Their service, professionalism, and clean-up all stood out. We were just totally pleased with them. Their follow-through is wonderful. The dad came out to check everything. They just took care of everything. Their price was better than the other four estimates, and they actually put in a larger furnace for us. Someone else who was going to put in the same furnace but smaller was more expensive. We got a big killer air filter/cleaner on it, and they just accomodated everything and set us up for when we need a new air conditioner. The electrician came on time, and the guys who were here worked perfectly and cleaned up everything.

I was extremely satisfied with all aspects of the work. Tom Uttke worked closely with me and the crew to ensure all work was done as expected. He was the most thorough in providing me with pricing and quote information, and gave several options for consideration. He was honest in his assessment of heat pump technology, saving me several thousand dollars of additional cost. The crew was very careful with cleanup when cutting through plaster/lath in living spaces to make duct runs. An installer even returned a week after the work was completed to install additional insulation on ductwork due to recent changes in code - when they could have just left it and I never would have known the difference! To top it all off, they were the most affordable of 3 estimates, beating another installer by approximately $100, and a third by over $2k - for the same work or more.

They were very professional and did complete diagnostic tests on my system before determining what needed to be fixed. I was concerned that I was going to have to replace my furnace, but he was able to fix the motor and get it working without a major expense. Everything was done in the course of a few hours. I will use them for any heating and AC needs in the future.

The day after the repair the house was again 60 degrees at 6 AM. No ignition. At 08:30 I call Uttke's and explain the situation. I am told they are very busy today but they will try to fit me in. I meet a new repairman at the house at 1 pm. He has great difficulty getting the furnace to ignite. He removes the $222 part and replaces it with a less expensive one. He dismantles the spark mechanism and puts on a maintenance kit. He spends 75 minutes repairing the furnace. He talks to Mr. Uttke, who tells him that he must charge $100 for additional labor and $47 for the maintenance kit. No mention is made of the igniter for which I have now received the less expensive version without mention of a potential refund. I refused to pay.
