Rebates at Mr. P's is painless because they copy the rebate forms so that they are large enough to write legibly in. They give you a copy of your rebate form and receipt and an addressed envelope with the rebate and receipt copy that you just have to put a stamp on and throw in the mail.
Also, they managed to fit me in, same day. That was not necessary in my case (the tires on my car were in bad shape but still functional) but was appreciated nonetheless.
My husband and I have bought LOTS of tires from Mr. P's, but almost always from the one near 5th and National. Those guys were always great.
My complaint arises from my second visit to the Highway 100 location, where my husband and I went together about a month ago to have the front tires replaced on our car because the downtown location is small and doesn't carry the kind of tires I need anymore. Today, I went alone to the Highway 100 Mr. P's to have the rear ones replaced with the small amount of free time I've got for errands on the weekend. My husband couldn't go, but you wouldn't expect that to matter, would you?
So, I pull into the parking lot, grab my bag, and wait a minute while another car pulls in after me. Then, I get out of my car, walk to the door, hold the door for the man BEHIND me-- who pulled into the lot, AFTER me. As I'm walking in, clearly first, one of the men behind the counter says, and quot; What can I do for you?and quot; or something of the sort. So I answer. Because I was THERE FIRST.
Now, let me pause to say that I am a very polite woman. I am not young, nor am I cute, but I am polite, and a repeat customer, I am there to pay for a service, and I have the means to do so. I'm thinking that's all I need, right?
So, as I'm answering, the man who spoke to me, who is looking me directly in the eye, smirks at me, looks away from me, WALKS away from me, completely ignoring me, and goes to the male customer who came in behind me. They walk outside together talking.
I am left standing at the counter in a toxic cloud of awkward silence. The other man behind the counter and I look at each other in silence for a moment, and I say, and quot; What was that? That was strange, wasn't it?and quot; He shrugs, and I stand there for a couple of moments before he asks what I need without apologizing for the clearly rude behavior of his colleague.
Now, here's where I'm mad at myself. This is ALL the free time I've got to speak of for another week, and my rear tires have been bald for months. So I just buy the two tires. The man behind the counter walks away, leaving me in the waiting room with another customer, who is clearly embarrassed by the whole thing. As I said, it was an obvious slight with no clear foundation. I say, and quot;That was strange, wasn't it?and quot; He says, and quot;Yeah. Yeah, that was weird. . . but they'll get it done pretty fast, at least.and quot;
So I sit down and wait for my tires. They're done pretty quickly. I know because the man behind the counter says, and quot; They're just about done, YOUNG LADY.and quot; I'm 46, mind you. So now, we follow up rudeness with condescension.
So I'm steamed, but I'm polite. I pay and go, which I regret with every fiber of my being. But I hadn't even thought of another place to go at the time, because I've been a Mr. P's customer for YEARS.
Take my experience for whatever it means to you. It is possible it might not mean much at all to you, and that's fine. But I will say that I've sent these people and given these people a lot of business over the years based on my good experiences at 5th and National. However, I will NEVER pay another dime to this establishment, and neither will my husband, my son, my daughter, her boyfriend, or his parents.
If 5th and National starts carrying my tires again, I will go there happily, but the Highway 100 location appears to lack even the most basic sense of courtesy. That's the best thing I can say about them right now... at least they didn't even try to hide their disdain for me. I got it, loud and clear.
I called them up on the telephone and explained my problem. they were very pleasant on the phone. they said they were open and to come on in.. my tire had some decent tread left but I knew they were getting to the end of there life , but I was hoping I could get away with just repairing it.
they are a first come first serve business so I had to wait about an hour before they could get to my car, but they had free coffee and a tv so the wait was not bad at all and again everyone was very nice.
once they were ready for me things picked up quickly. they removed my tired and found the issues and even showed them to me so I could see what was wrong. the mechanic quickly repaired my tire and had me back on the road very fast.
the thing that really impressed me was they don't mess with you. they found the problem and fixed it.......no trying to talk
me into a new full set of tires which would have been easy to do because I knew they were about due but every other garage would have I believe.
I will definitely be going back for any of my tire repairs
wanted. I called Mr. P's for a price and found the man who answered the
phone to be very friendly, helpful and knowledgable. I decided based on
his helpfulness, Angie's List recommendations and Consumer Reports that
I wasn't going to do much better so I went in the next day. There was a
hour and a half wait and another 45 min. to do the work but they were
done when they said they would be done. It's only been a few days with
the new tires but so far so good. They do have wifi available so you can work or entertain yourself while you wait.
