This review is in response to the negative review written by my father who incorrectly stated Keystone was a "no-show'. The company was not told that the doorbell didn't work - they did show up and no one answered. The company did in fact send out an estimate, which my father said was too low of a bid to be trusted. Meanwhile the siding has continued to blow off the house, my father passed away last spring and I have subsequently moved into the house.

I knew I wanted to have the siding repaired and had received correspondence from Keystone to my father inviting him to revisit the incident and amend his review here on Angie's list. I called Jim Kaucic and found him to be very responsive, forthcoming and eager to help. He came out to the house within a very short time, we chatted briefly and he re-assessed the new/additional damage to the house. As promised he soon after sent me a new estimate which I felt was very fair. The ball has been in my court and I'm happy to ask him to make the repairs.

I've learned there are always at least two sides to every story and so I can't say that my father's review is false, as it was his perception. But I wanted to add the other side of the story and also that this story will have a happy ending.

The repair went very well. The contractor was competent, neat and very personable. The repair solved the issue. I would definately have them back.

My husband and I purchased our home in 2006. It was a fixer-upper to say the least. We were moving from the Milwaukee area to a city about an hour and a half away. Keystone was the only company from our current area willing to work with us during our move. We had all of the windows and outlaying doors replaced. They were more than accommodating and prompt. A couple of years later, we decided to change our front window to a bay-style window. This required the wall size to change. Again, the salesperson came out to the house to see exactly what I was looking for. They scheduled the service around my schedule. This year we plan on redoing our siding and roofing. This will be the only company I contact.

We really enjoyed meeting with the folks at Keystone--helpful, lots of options, good explanations of options.  The work was done in a timely fashion by the subcontractors, despite some inclimate weather, and they did a thorough job cleaning up after leaving.  Our only complaint is that some of the nails from the siding went completely through to the interior walls in two rooms (for a total of three holes).  The damage was not major, but did require repairing the wall and repainting.  We told Keystone and were told to talk to the subcontractors.  We showed them and they seemed to think it was normal.  We did not think that but chose not to pursue it.  Shortly thereafter, we discovered the nails also went through our laundry chute that goes from the 2nd story to the basement.  As we could think of no easy way for anyone to fix it (including the contractors) we did not act on this either--but it is a shame that the laundry chute is unusable now given the nails poking into it.  So, our siding is beautiful, we love the look and appreciate the expedience of the work and the clean-up.  We are not as happy about the response to the interior damage and wish they would have offered to fix it as a part of the job rather than telling us that is not part of what they do and that someone else should be hired or we should do it ourselves (which we did, except of for the laundry chute).  This is a not a big deal, but it did detract from our previously stellar experience.  In the past two years, we have had only one other problem with the work--an old laundry vent was left uncovered under the edge of the siding, allowing for some rodent entry.  We have fixed that as well.  The gutters are as promised--they look great and were appropriately installed so we haven't had any problems with them.

My wife and I selected Keystone after receiving 8 quotes from area companies.  All bids came within $2,000 of one another.  They were the second lowest bid.  The overall cost included a charge of $100/window due to a change in a EPA lead paint law.  From our standpoint from viewing the prep work for this work, this charge was was excessive.  But it should also be noted that all companies at this time were charging $75-$100 per window to be in compliance with this law.  If possible, see if you can prep the site yourself to save yourself some money.  Your work will be just effective as your contractors.  Overall, we based our decision not only on value (cost), but also comfort with the installer (Terry), who has worked with Keystone for several years.  The sales person from Keystone (Jeff Kersky) was personable, knowledgeable, and utilized a no pressure sales pitch.  The installer did a excellent job installing windows.  We had no drafting issues with any of the installed windows.  However, a window in the bathroom was required to have tempered glass and did not pass inspection.  We had told Jeff that we had thought this window needed to be tempered and he assured us that he would contact the building inspector to see if tempered was required.  We were therefore somewhat miffed that mistake occurred. To make a long story short, this window was not properly put in until February of 2011 when Keystone finally brought in the Alside factory installers to install the window.  Additionally, one of our windows developed a crack during the winter months and this was replaced this March.  Even with these minor issues, my wife and I are satisfied with the work Keystone and their affiliates performed.  If not for the fact it took so long for the one bathroom window, I would have rated them a A on their work.  I would recommend their work for replacement windows.

I liked the salesperson that came over. They were timely and I liked that they were in the neighborhood. They took time with me. I didn't get the color I wanted but I realized afterwards that was my fault, not theirs. It was fine. I was a little bit leery of the installation because the main guy seemed to know what he was doing but I wasn't as confident in his two assistants. I didn't think they were as seasoned in installation. They work fine. I did have to have them come back because they forgot to take out some styrofoam packs in the windows that we couldn’t see. When I had concerns they were very accommodating and came out right away. They were good at answering questions. Their price was competitive.

Keystone did siding, soffit, and facia work on a home we bought in mid 2006. Later in 2006 a piece of soffit on the dormer simply fell down. We had them fix that. In 2007 squirrels pushed up another piece of inadequately installed soffit and got in our roof. We asked them to come out and re-attach the soffit properly. They did not come out until March of 2008 and when they did caulked an eyesore to our roof. We complained out this unprofessional work. They apologized and said they'd be out later that week to do the job correctly. They never showed. Finally, in June we contacted NARI about the conduct and quality of work of this contractor. Shortly thereafter Keystone came out while we were at work. The hideous patch was gone but I'm not sure if the soffit was properly re-attached because they never contacted us to tell us what they did. If you care about your home you'll go elsewhere.

The crew that did the actual work (John and Dave) were awesome. They explained what was to be done when I asked, let me know when to expect them and even went out of their way to install some hardware I wanted put on the house. They also replaced a piece of siding on my garage that they saw was too short as well as completed some other chores that needed to be done even though they were not directly related to the current job. They never complained when I had to ask them to move their equipment so I could get my car out of the garage or let the dogs out. They even played with them. The house looks great now, and I am thoroughly pleased with the outcome.

I was very pleased with the work done. From the time that Jeff came to give me an estimate to the completion of the work, he was always available to give me assistance, answer my every question and make sure that I was satisfied with the product and the work done. Any problems were immediately corrected. I had 21 windows replaced including 9 that I wanted to match the existing oak trim that was original to the house. You cannot tell the difference between the old windows or the new ones. I plan on having Keystone do the siding on my house also.

THE INDIVIDUAL DIDN'T CLEAN UP, BUT HE CAME THE NEXT DAY. HE WAS TRYING TO FINISH THE JOB THAT NIGHT, AND I IMAGINE THAT HE WAS TIRED BECAUSE HE WORKED ALL DAY, OR IT WAS DARK. I WOULDN'T COUNT THAT AGAINST THEM.

THE FINAL PRODUCT WAS GOOD, BUT IT WAS PAINFUL GETTING THERE. THE INITIAL CONSULTATION WAS GOOD, WITH MULTIPLE CHOICES. THEY WERE VERY DELAYED IN GETTING STARTED, AND WERE ALMOST GOING TO START TWO DAYS BEFORE THANKSGIVING WITHOUT ASKING, WHEN I HAD 17 PEOPLE COMING TO MY HOUSE! AFTER THE JOB WAS DONE, OUR YARD WAS A MESS, WITH NAILS AND PIECES OF LEFTOVER SIDING EVERYWHERE. WE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE MESS, AND THEY SENT SOMEONE TO CLEAN UP WHO DID A PARTIAL JOB, USED OUR WHEELBARROW (WHICH THEY LEFT FULL FOR US TO DUMP), AND RAN OVER A NAIL, SO THAT WE HAD TO GET THE TIRE REPLACED.
