JIM'S AUTO MART

The following events were experienced by my son who has given me permission to share them with Angie's list.  .   
At the end of January, 2013,  I purchased a 1999 Escort ZX2 from Jim's Auto Mart, Inc. for $3,800.  After a few days, I noticed that the sticker on my car was a 2013.  When I contacted them, I was told they were out of the 2014 stickers and that they would call me when the stickers came in.  In the meantime, they gave me a ?March? sticker to replace the ?January? one.  In the days that followed,  I didn't hear back from them.  At the end of February, 2013, I began to experience problems with the car's transmission.  I took it to one garage and was told I needed a new transmission at a cost of $3,000. I contacted Jim?s to see if they could help me out since I only had the car for a month.  They said they would get back to me.  They never did.  When I finally stopped at Jim?s a couple of weeks later to find out if the 2014 stickers came in, nothing was said about the transmission.  However, they did give me a 2014 sticker.   I received a second quote for $2,000 from another garage so I had the car towed to that garage.  Before they began the work, they did a once over of the car.  After closer inspection, I was shown a broken exhaust pipe that was welded multiple times, a problem with the front end and bad tires.  There was also some major rusting visible from under the car.  So now I have to decide whether it is worth it to replace the transmission and fix everything else that was  wrong with a car that was only worth about $4,000. I decided to replace the transmission for need of a vehicle.  Unfortunately I have had more problems after that.  And to top it off, I  was recently stopped and the March sticker removed from my auto because the officer said the sticker was illegal.  I now have an $88.00 citation added to my car expenses and a car that has failed the emissions test again!   My experience with Jim's Auto Mart, Inc. gives the saying "Buyer Beware" new meaning.
