Hardware & Home Improvement Stores
I like their pricing and customer service. They're very accessible. Xavier Johnson and Frank Harris at the Pro Desk are both a pleasure to work with. They're knowledgeable and courteous, and I never have to worry about anything when I'm dealing with them. They really set the benchmark for good customer service. Shockingly enough, spending money with them is actually refreshing! They've saved me a lot of money, too. I wish them well career-wise, but I hope they never leave!!

Carpet Installation
There were two installers. We were happy with one, however the other installer loaded our remnants onto the truck, which we were hoping to have those handy in case we needed to do any repairs. It took a very long time to track down someone who could help our complaint. We eventually had some carpet returned. It was the exact match, and the amount was less than what had previously remained. I was disappointed with the length of time it took to have our issue addressed and resolved. It was weeks before anything was accomplished.

Appliance Sale
I have no problems with the stove and the refrigerator. They were comparable with everybody else on the cost. The sales people were very helpful. With delivery, I think they privately contract. But the delivery service was good. The first refrigerator was dented, they immediately took it back and sent another one. They were good.

Carpet Installation
Communications and scheduling with this installation were very troublesome. Home Depot uses an outside contractor for installation, and that company - Crew 2, who I have reviewed separately - uses "independent contractors" to do the actual work. The installers who arrived in my home were not employees of either Home Depot or Crew 2.
Communication throughout the process was very poor. Home Depot called me repeatedly - almost daily - to try to sell me the carpet after the initial measure. Once they had my payment in advance, they fell silent, and I waited to hear from Crew 2 who eventually assigned a much later date - and only after they had received the carpet from Home Depot. They would only give me a 3 hour window of arrival, and the crew arrived at the very end of that window. They estimated a 2 hour completion for the project, which in fact took 5 hours. Crew 2 has been difficult to reach to address scheduling and quality concerns. Multiple voice mail messages to their "hotline" and "quality manager" have not been returned; a "production manager" I reached after being referred by Home Depot actually hung up on me.
Purchasing carpet from Home Depot saved some money in comparison to a bid from a local provider - although I cannot directly compare the quality of the products proposed. I would not use Home Depot again: it would be worth it to me to pay more to get good customer service from local providers who are responsive to their customers.
Home Depot advertises sale prices for carpet installation at $47 for two rooms. I guess you get what you pay for.

Kitchen and Bath Remodeling, Countertops and Backsplashes
We don't remember how much we spent but it was a good price. We were happy with the results of what they did, but the communication between the Home Depot and the contractors wasn't always the best. The end result was very good; we were happy with the kitchen and I think it was a good value for what we paid. We might possibly use them in the future.

Countertops and Backsplashes, Cabinet Refacing and Refinishing
We brought our measurements in, we are re-doing our kitchen, we were given a very detailed quote for re-doing our cabinets and counter tops. The person we talked to was very professional and he really knew his product line (December of 2007).

Plumbing, Water Heater Service
The way Home Depot makes it money is through their installations. The quote for installation was much lower than the final price. Once they got to the house, they found all types of other problems that needed to be fixed otherwise they wouldn't install the water heater. We had just had a plumber out a week before this and he found nothing wrong with anything. Our hot water heater failed so we were under a time pressure and our regular plumber was not available.

Hardware & Home Improvement Stores, Fencing Service
This company deserves all B's because they are an above average company. If B plus were an option, I would give them that grade. We are very satisfied customers and we would refer them to other people in the future. I am not sure of the exact price as my wife paid for it, but do I know that it is more than $1,000.

There were several parts to the job: design/cabinet order, install, countertops, plumbing. The design staff was excellent; very capable, detail oriented, and with a good work ethic. Linda Smith spent 8 hours straight with me on one day to put an order together on time. The cabinet order arrived promptly, and there were no errors or defects in the original order. The quality was good. Home Depot has a good process for keeping track of the job status and escalating and resolving complaints if needed. HD hires subs to do the install. The sub (Crew 2) had carpenters and a plumber; the carpenters were great, but the plumber was just awful. The carpenters who did the install were neat, responsive, changed stuff if needed, and worked hard. The plumber made a mess, was incompetent, lied about pulling the permit, and never did get the dw. installed properly; we had to correct his work after his second try! Overall HD would get an A, but the D from the plumber averages to a C.

Kitchen and Bath Remodeling, Cabinet Making
We worked with Linda in the kitchen design area. We had gutted our kitchen and took out a wall between our kitchen and family room. We reconfigured the space and with Linda's help, came up with computerized kitchen model. This was our first time doing this, and Linda was extremely helpful and guided us through the process. We purchased the cabinets through home depot, but installed them ourselves.

I have been very happy so far with the kitchen and bath consultants at Home Depot. I used them last year as well for a different bath remodel and had a good experience then too.

Kitchen and Bath Remodeling
The designer, Ann Carroll was a joy to work with, very knowledgeable, both about products and design. Supportive, willing to go to bat for the customer. Product was ordered and delivered in a timely manner. We had several instances in which, the products received were not acceptable for various reasons and had to be reordered. Ann was very good about following up with the vendors and keeping track of what was going on. (Dealing with other personnel not familiar with our project was a bit of a pain, though.) I might not use some of the same products again, but I'd trust Ann and Home Depot with another project like this in a heartbeat.

Garage Doors
OVERALL, WE WERE VERY PLEASED WITH OUR EXPERIENCE USING HOME DEPOT TO REPLACE OUR OLD GARAGE DOOR. THE SALES REP AT THE STORE WAS VERY HELPFUL AND DID A GREAT JOB HELPING US TO GET WHAT WE NEEDED. THE SUBCONTRACTOR WHO DID THE INSTALLATION WAS EXCELLENT - THOROUGH AND PROFESSIONAL, EXPLAINING THE WORK CLEARLY AND CHECKING WITH US AT EACH STEP. THE ONLY NEGATIVE WAS THAT THE INSTALLER WAS VERY LATE DUE TO SOME DIFFICULTIES AT OTHER JOBS, AND I HAD TO CALL THE COMPANY TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS HAPPENING. BUT HE STAYED UNTIL 7PM TO GET IT DONE FOR US.

Ceramic Tile Service
THE INSTALLERS TOOK THREE WEEKS TO SCHEDULE THE JOB AFTER WE SIGNED THE CONTRACT AND PUT DOWN A GENEROUS DEPOSIT. THE SUB-CONTRACTOR WHO ARRIVED ON SIGHT DID A GENERALLY GOOD JOB, BUT FORGOT TO INSTALL A TRANSITION PIECE. LATER, HE SAID WE DID NOT PAY FOR IT (ALTHOUGH WE HAD). HE RECTIFIED THE SITUATION. WHEN HE WAS SUPPOSED TO RETURN TO SEAL THE GROUT, HE DID TO SHOW. WE HAD TO RESCHEDULE. HOME DEPOT NEVER CALLED TO ASK ABOUT WHETHER WE WERE SATISFIED WITH THE SERVICE.
