Project went very well, on time, excellent contractor.

I got them from a friend who had used them. Their prices were a lot less than the other people that we used, and they were amazing. It is this old guy and one of his sons.

They told me they would begin at a certain date, but did not. I had to contact them to find out when they would begin the work. They made no effort to contact me. We had a signed contract for a set amount and the work done. They were supposed to fix my sidewalk and cut a step in my porch. I have a signed contract that stipulates they would do this work and do it for a set amount of money. After they started they decided they could not cut the step, did the bare minimum to fix the sidewalk and still charged me $65 more than we had agreed. The contract meant nothing to them. The hours billed were inflated and the craftsmanship was average at best. They treated me as if I were ignorant because I expected the contract to be fulfilled. There are 3/4 inch gaps in the brick line that could make someone trip. The facing on the steps are very rough. The work was poorly done.
Response from H Froebel & Son Inc
"Owner had 3 options for his 30 year old brick walk and steps: new brick, stamped and colored concrete or tuck pointing. He chose the least expensive which was tuck pointing. He also was told he might get 3 years out of the tuck pointing. The base concrete is shifted and deteriorated, consequently the brick on surface have shifted. This can not be corrected without removal and replacement. Furthermore anything done in the masonry and concrete field can not be done when it rains. So certainly there would be delays in getting there. If this person does not understand the simplest of things, he apparently does not, then there is no sense to further discussion."

The project involved some major excavation, repair and replacement on a 100 year old brick house, porch, cement stairs and sidewalk. Looks like brand new and I'm not sure you can tell there was any work done - looks great!
The crew had to apply a bit of creativity, had good problem solving skills. Clearly had a lot of experience to leverage. I really just had to listen and nod my head and they took care of the rest. Thanks Kurt!

He did a great job. He and his crew really knew what they were doing. I would recommend them highly.

Both on the original inspection and the later control-of-damper call, Kurt was able to respond within a day. His experience allayed concerns raised by the home inspector, and his creative solution for controlling the damper operation was inspired.

They did an excellent job. They were very professional and have a competitive price.

They were absolutely horrendous. They did not deliver what they promised. They did not want to make good on it. They tried to put a lien on my house. They ruined a stone planter and then said they never did it. It was like dealing with the mob. Don't go near them - run as far as you can. It was a waist of money. Everything they did fell apart. They did not know what they were doing. It was like I brought them in off the street and told them to do the job. The whole thing was terrible. They were dishonest and threatening. They had unskilled work.
Response from H Froebel & Son Inc
"This work was done in April of 2008. All the comments made by the member are untrue. He called me on May 2, 2008 and threaten we will be getting a letter from his lawyer."

Unfortunately, the crew missed areas and needed to be called back twice to remediate these.

It went very well. The mason was answered all my questions completely. It is obvious they know what they are doing and are proud of the work they do.

We had looked around several different places. On the side of their building they had all different kinds of concrete that they did. It was all laid out so that we could look at the different patterns, the different styles and the textures and we liked that. I think I checked the Better Business Bureau and they had better ratings. They had been in business for a long time for about 70 years or so. We had 3 estimates and they were in the middle; their price was reasonable. They did an excellent job. We used to have a step near the garage, but they changed that and made it one smooth thing which I appreciate. They did some things which would make it look aesthetically nice. We were very pleased with them and there were no problems. We had some shrubs in the front which we wanted to get rid of anyway. I told them that they can just get rid of those and so they removed them as well. They didn’t even charge anything for that. I would hire them back.

They were excellent. They even came back for some concrete work and fixed lots of things. They removed the old drive and then constructed the new one. They did good work and I would recommend them to anybody. They were very professional.

He's been in business a long time. He employed 3 mexicans to do the job. One spoke english and I wasn't totally pleased with the work. There wasn't the greatest communication and they hurried along. The price was reasonable. He came in on the low side of the estimate. I would recommend him to others, but keep in mind 2 out of 3 of the workers probably don't have enough training as they need.

All went well. When I signed the contract I forgot to ask when the work might be done. I called several weeks later to ask when the work might be done and was told it would be late November or early December. The work was completed in late November.

We had had part of the job done by detour several years ago and they did a perfect job. At that time we didn't have enough money to do the whole sidewalk. When we saw that our neighbors were having a concrete job done by H Froebel, we had them come over and give us an estimate. The price was reasonable so we hired them. They did a very mediocre job. Although the drainage was corrected, the texture and the color of the concrete surface were visibly uneven. There was also significant space left between the sidewalk and the foundation. We asked them to correct their work, and received some resistance and some discourteous verbal responses. Eventually, to their credit, after about three calls, they filled in the space between the sidewalk and foundation. The color and texture patches, however, remain as a reminder that in the future we will not use or recommend their services.

They were professional and on time. They did a very nice job. While doing the job-it rained so they would put plastic around to keep the rain out. They got materials to match very well. No rain has gotten in. Had leaked very bad before the new one in.

They were out quickly and did the job efficiently. I thought their price was reasonable based on other estimates I had received.

The bid for this job was fair, their assessment of the extent of the repairs seemed accurate to me. They explained the project as it unfolded and completed the work in a timely fashion. The mason assigned went above the stated job to complete a small associated repair that was not readily noticed during the initial inspection of the job. I would recommend them to a family with an older home and perhaps some unusual requirements about their chimney.

EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL, WALKED AROUND THE HOUSE WITH ME EXPLAINING WHAT NEEDED TO BE DONE AND WHAT COULD POSSIBLY WAIT, LEAVING ALL DECISIONS TO ME. FANTASTIC WORK COMPLETED IN A TIMELY MANNER. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

THEY WERE MATTER OF FACT AND KNOWLEDGEABLE. I HAD SOME QUESTIONS AND I SPOKE TO, I BELIEVE, THE SON OF THE OWNER AND HE WAS GOOD AT ANSWERING MY QUESTIONS.

THEY DID A GREAT JOB, CLEANED UP WELL, AND THE WORKERS WERE FRIENDLY AND EFFICIENT. THEY EVEN ADDED A BRICK FACING TO COVER AN AREA THAT HAD SOME WATER DAMAGE, WHICH SAVED HIRING A CARPENTER TO REPAIR THE WOOD.

LEFT UNSIGHTLY FINISH TO SIDEWALK. I'VE HAD NO COMMUNICATION FROM THIS COMPANY ABOUT WHAT THEY PLAN TO DO. FINISH IS A VERY ROUGH SURFACE WITH SEVERAL DEEP GROOVES WHICH BASICALLY TURNS MY STOMACH EVERY TIME I GO OUT MY DOOR. I DID PAY REMAING BALANCE IN FULL, BECAUSE THEY SAID THEY WOULD TAKE ACTION. STILL I HAVE YET TO HEAR FROM THE COMPANY.

THE CHIMNEY REPAIR GUYS WERE VERY HELPFUL AND PLEASANT TO DEAL WITH. THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH A HARD RAIN SHORTLY AFTER THE CONCRETE WAS POURED. KURT FREOBEL INSPECTED IT QUICKLY AND REDID THE JOB PROMPTLY.

THIS WAS A HUGE JOB. BUILDING RETAINING WALLS IS A LOT OF HARD WORK. WE HAD A BIG CREW WORK WITH US, ALWAYS ON TIME, DID BEAUTIFUL WORK. COMMUNICATED WELL WITH US ON THE PROGRESS, WE WERE ESPECIALLY PLEASED THAT WHEN THEY REMOVED THE ORIGINAL STONE, THEY DELIVERED IT TO MY FATHER'S HOUSE (HE'S WORKING ON A BIG PROJECT HIMSELF) AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE. THEY WERE GOOD AT CLEAN-UP, TOO. A PLEASURE TO DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY. KURT FROEBEL WAS TIMELY IN BOTH HIS ESTIMATES AND CALLS BACK. HIS KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROPOSED WORK WAS REASSURING AND HIS ASSESSMENT OF THE SITUATION WAS HONEST. HIS WORK CREW WAS FAST AND EFFICIENT AND DID VERY, VERY NICE WORK ON MY RETAINING WALLS. I WOULD HIRE THEM BACK. NO PROBLEMS AT ALL.
