Ken Kruk, the salesperson gave us a bid of approximately $7200, which covered loss and mysterious disappearance and was supposed to eliminate any deductible should the movers lose or damage our items. When it came time to move our things, the movers were 4 hours late in arrival. They did not cover our floors, pad our stairway or protect our home against dirt or damage as was promised in the agreement. Pete, the driver had hired a new crew that was quite inexperienced. During the move at our former home, they did not wrap my husband's Amish dresser, they tipped it over and the drawers slammed into the wall, damaged it, damaged our walls and left our home filthy. They also failed to label at least 25 boxes, leaving them unattended at the end of our driveway for hours. We gave them water, soda, and juice and still they left our home in a terrible state which required us to spend several hours cleaning it again before the new owners moved in. The movers also charged us several thousand dollars more than the quoted amount, saying that the weight was higher-- this shocked us no end as we brought LESS than was originally listed by Ken Kruk on his IPad when he came to our home in June and inventoried our items. They told us that if we did not pay immediately that we would NOT receive our things. This sounds like extortion to me as they held our items hostage. When they arrived at our new home, they proceeded to rapidly unload our items. They did not put our Sleep Number bed together properly as was promised to me by Ken Kruk and consequently, it still does not operate properly. The movers also stripped the screws on our Amish bed frame and never offered to repair. They cracked an armoire at the base and blamed it on Arizona dry heat, yet it was moved in a climate controlled truck from WI and there were no cracks when it was left our home. I attempted to quickly unload boxes as the movers were unloading our things on August 7, but was told that they could not take our empty boxes with them, nor could they wait around for me to unload the boxes. Pete, the driver had me sign off on the sheet he provided because he said he was in a hurry to get to San Diego for another job. I asked him about all of the boxes that had no labels and he said that I had 90 days to file a claim if anything was missing or damaged. As we unpacked the remainder of our things over the following couple of weeks, I realized that approximately $3000 worth of items were missing and I immediately filed a claim with Allied. They said they would put a trace on our items. I figured they were being sincere about trying to find our things. It took 6 weeks to finish the "trace" on our things. Weeks later, I received a letter stating that they are not responsible for losing our things because I signed off on the paperwork that the driver made me sign before he left on August 7!! They said that because I signed the paper that it meant that we did not lose anything. We are left to wonder why they bothered to have a trace on our things if they did not believe the items were lost. Some of these things were priceless, such as two gold coin collections, and a set of family DVDs that I had just made from old VHS tapes before we moved. They also lost several small appliances of ours. I believe that Allied moving is irresponsible and I believe that they are lying about looking for our things. I feel that we were robbed by this company and they overcharged us because customers are vulnerable when moving and Allied can easily take advantage of their vulnerability. And nearly 3 years later, they still did not reimburse us for damaged and missing items. Worst company I have ever seen. All I think about when I think of our move is what a horror/freak show it was to move. They completely ruined our move and cost us so much money. I reported them to the BBB and they lied to them as well as lied about the insurance, about their coverage, about the way they handled our move. They forced us to sign off on the move so the driver could get to San Diego on time....worst experience of our lives. It appeared as if they used convicts to move our belongings and it still shocks me to know how this nationally known company does business.

Great job. Didn't break anything. Pleasant and friendly. A little pricey, but after poor experience with Right Now Movers causing $100's in damages, it was worth the extra money for peace of mind and less stressful experience.

The crew that came to help me pack the remaining items was really great. Moving is such a stressful process anyway, and they eased my concerns and workload considerably! The crew that loaded the truck was also fantastic! They worked quickly but were careful to protect our things from damage. Very courteous and neat. The truck driver was also there with one of his crew to unpack in FL - they were great. I would highly recommend them!

On the Milwaukee end, the full-time uniformed 3-man crew was excellent. The pickup was on time but, because of the location of my garage (in a rather narrow alley), the driver used a smaller truck to transport the items to the larger, multi-family truck parked at Coakley's facility. We moved from two locations and the driver took the items from the first pick up and loaded them onto the big truck before picking up at the 2nd location. This made more sense than packing the items from both locations and cramming them in to the smaller truck, only to repack everything into to the bigger truck. The delivery in Knoxville was exactly as scheduled. The 2-man uniformed full-time crew was younger and less careful. (Note: local crews are from an agency and the driver does not have much control over who is selected.) Despite my instructions, many boxes were not put in the right rooms, or arranged in the garage as I asked. Overall, the move went very well and I would recommend Coakley very highly.

I would not recommend the Coakley Brothers. Reasons:

1.       They brought in a super truck to move multiple families the day of moving. Because it could not move down our street, they had to load up smaller trucks and shuttle to the super truck. This cost an extra $X,000, which we had to agree to or they would not move us. Was it our problem they brought in a super truck? It was never quoted. Nor were we warned in advance. So we got taken. When we moved to into this house with Corrigan Movers, they were able to get two got size moving trucks down the street…no problem…no additional cost.

2.       Items get broken in the move. When we moved with Corrigan Movers a couple years ago, they replaced everything with no hassle and no problem. Not with these guys. For example, our $X,000 super tv worked fine before the move. After they moved all the boxes in and left and we set up the tv, there is a big horizontal line across the tv. It’s ruined. They would not replace it. There were about a dozen items they rejected – furniture included. A few more $X,000 we got taken for by these movers. This would have never happened with the other mover.

So beware! We should have stayed with Corrigan.

The workers showed up on time, were friendly and hard-working. They did the job quickly and efficiently. When my father took a tumble down the stairs, one of the workers helped him up and back into a chair. He showed real concern, for which I am still grateful.
The move was delayed while the paramedics checked over my dad; however, I was not charged for the extra time. All of the workers took care to make sure the boxes and furniture were placed where I wanted them. They moved my washer and dryer and everything with care. They even helped to unload a trailer we had filled up before they arrived. I heartily recommend Coakley Brothers Moving.

Perfect move. On-time, professional, and hard-working. Very willing to take direction. Bill, the guy who came out and made the estimate was particularly good. Given our circumstances (which involved leaving items behind and figuring out what a packrat spouse would REALLY throw out), I was impressed at the accuracy of the bid.

From the proposal to the unloading in Georgia we had a positive experience. Whether it was Bill Wholean, the sales rep, or Vanessa in the office or Brett the driver, Reggie and his team packing or Frazier and his team unloading, all were available, accommodating, hard-working, efficient and CAREFUL. Our things arrived in perfect condition. The entire process was positive and worth the cost. I had done my homework, and Coakley Bros. reputation was excellent. They "delivered" quality service in an efficient and timely manner. This was our second long-distance move using Allied and both experiences were superb.

Coakley damaged a lot of my property and were two hours late. Coakley was very unprofessional and did not protect my goods up to industry standards. Coakley hired a local person from somewhere in Michigan they were not dressed any type of uniform and I had know idea they even worked for Coakley. Coakley did not go over inventory list prior to packing and moving my items. The inventory was not accurate boxes were split when they arrived to my house in Michigan. My televisions were not wrapped up in insulation the cords to my televisions were not secured and just flopping around during transit. Coakley did nothing to protect my televisions from damage. I have a lamp shade that arrived to my house in Michigan with two pieces missing. I have a clothes chest made of cherry wood it was in pristine condition they used the cherry chest to stack boxes on, and it left scuff marks on my cherry chest and they chipped the rear leg.

"Being a proud winner of the Angie's List Super Service Award in 2010 and 2011 it is apparent that Coakley Brothers strives to provide superior customer service at every opportunity. I regret that [removed member name] was disappointed with our service. The fact that her complaint was lodged almost 18 months after the completion of her move makes it difficult to recall all of the details. I spoke with the driver and he remembers the job. Bob was 2 hours late because he was lost. He repeatedly attempted calling [removed member name] but was unable to reach her. All labor used by Coakley Brothers is lined up by the local Allied agent and has had a complete background check. The customer is given a copy of the inventory at the time of loading. This document records each item and it's condition. My records indicate that [removed member name] did the majority of her own packing; 55 cartons. Coakley Brothers packed only 11 cartons, primarily wardrobes and mattresses. She does not indicate which cartons were split, who packed them or if anything was damaged. I cannot attest to the quality of materials she used nor her expertise at packing. Generally, burst or crushed boxes are the result of insufficient dunnage, packing heavy items in boxes that are too big or using low grade materials.Coakley Brothers uses new standard industry materials and all packers are experienced professionals. All televisions are completely padded or boxed if it is a flat screen; no exceptions. It would be impossible for "cords to flop around during transit" as [removed member name] contends. Just because the TV was carried into the house unpadded does not mean that it travelled unpadded. Many items are unpadded in the truck to make handling easier. Allied Van Lines allows 9 months from delivery to file a claim. Each claim is settled based upon the level of protection declared by the customer. She did not indicate if a claim was submitted and if so what the result was.The driver that handled [removed member name] move has a customer service score of 4.87 on a 5 point scale based on independent post move surveys conducted by the Gallup Poll organization. He has repeatedly proven himself to be a consistent high quality service provider. I regret [removed member name] thought our service less than satisfactory and look forward to providing better service in the future."

We could not have been happier. They showed up on time, were completely professional, cooperated incredibly well as a team, took great care of our furniture including a few very fragile antiques, and truly seemed to care about my home and my experience. We installed new hardwood floors, and I was concerned about scratches during the move. They lay a cardboard floor over the wood floor in four rooms to ensure that nothing would get scratched. This was a challenging job - two flights of stairs just to get to the front porch, three floors plus a basement and garage, and a winding staircase inside the house. They moved a piano and a very heavy antique safe that required four men to move. All of this and not a single mark on our freshly-painted walls. The men worked extremely hard, taking only a few five-minute breaks between 8 am and 3 pm. Coakley Brothers made our move a great experience. I highly recommend them!

Lesson learned. Never leave medication out. What I learned is that even though I am retired, there was no thought of any reimbursement for the medication missing.

"As evidenced by our recognition as an Angie's List Super Service Award winner in both 2010 and 2011 we provide superior customer service on a regular basis. The customer's allegation is a serious one and something we acted on immediately. We are extremely sensitive to the fact that we are sending people into our customer's homes and before doing so we must be totally confident of their integrity. Therefore, all Coakley Brothers employees have had comprehensive background checks; perhaps the most thorough in our industry. Year round random drug testing is also utilized. We responded rapidly to the customer's call. All crew members were told of the accusation by our HR department and immediately sent for a drug screen; all passed. We regret any concern or anguish the customer may have experienced as a result of this incident."

Before I booked Coakley Brothers/Allied for my cross-country move from Milwaukee to Los Angeles, they proudly showed me their positive reviews on Angie's List. Unfortunately, my cross-country move experience with Coakley Bros. was in no way consistent with those positive reviews. My move was badly bungled by Coakley Brothers/Allied. From the day the too-small truck arrived for our move with no driver designated to move the load, our move was doomed. Coakely damaged many of our household items and failed to deliver the items to Los Angeles within the agreed delivery period. Adding insult to injury, Allied has refused to reimburse me for the damages I suffered as a result of its delay. Allied has made absurd claims that it is not responsible for delay damages related to pets (I needed to board the pets for longer than anticipated because of the delay and to purchase some pet supplies in Los Angeles when our household goods were not delivered in the promised timeframe). Allied also has claimed that I have not adequately substantiated my damages, even though I provided them with numerous receipts and credit card statements to substantiate my damages. Given Allied's unreasonable positions, I suspect that my delay claim likely will end up being litigated. In addition to the failure to timely deliver my household goods and the damage caused to many items, my experience with Coakley Bros. was a negative experience in so many ways, including: 1. Salesperson (Kevin Kaufmann) failed to return calls during move. 2. Movers who loaded move failed to clean up after themselves, leaving the bathroom dirty and empty drink bottles throughout the house (I provided bottled water and Gatorade for the movers). One mover brought his own 2 liter bottle of soda, leaving soda marks on built-ins at former home. 3. The boxes packed by Allied were done haphazardly, with items from multiple rooms packed together. Some packing charges were double-billed, which was corrected when I pointed it out. 4. Charges were run on my American Express credit card without my authorization. 5. Overflow load was re-inventoried after being loaded, with the original inventory numbers disregarded. As a result, it was impossible to ascertain from the inventories whether there were inventoried items that were missing from either the original or overflow loads. 6. Parts box was mistakenly loaded in overflow truck. As a result, furniture could not be assembled when it was delivered. 7. Cat carriers/beds were mistakenly loaded in overflow truck. Driver was aware that these were to be loaded with main truck and promised that they would be loaded on the main truck. As a result, cats did not have beds in new home for several weeks. 8. Driver who unloaded overflow truck was overheard instructing mover to not disclose any damage he noticed on household goods as they were unloaded.

In sum, I have nothing positive to say about my experience with Coakley/Allied. Not only did they bungle the job, but they also have refused to compensate me for my damages caused by their delay in delivering my household goods.

"Coakley Brothers has earned Angie’s List Superior Service Award in 2010 and 2011. This distinguished recognition demonstrates our genuine commitment to being a superior quality service provider. On the rare occasion when our service does not meet a customer’s expectations, we react quickly to correct any problems. The contract for a long distance move is between the customer and Allied Van Lines. The member’s claim form was first received by Allied Van Lines on May 7, 2012 almost 9 months after her move in August of 2011. Allied Van Lines keeps a detailed diary of all claims. I have enclosed a copy of the claim diary for your review. The diary shows that a file was created the day of the first claim notification May 7, 2012. The next day a repair service was contacted and assigned to inspect the damage. On May 15 the repair service contacted the member but was told to call back in June to schedule an appointment; she had a busy month. On June 6, an inspection was scheduled for June 20. The inspection results were received by Allied Van Lines on June 27 and repairs were authorized. Enclosed is the inspection report and record of claims paid. The member received $500 for the delay claim and an additional $1200 settlement for damaged items.I advise the member to contact The National Arbitration Forum if she feels Allied Van Lines settlement was unreasonable. A request for arbitration must be initiated in writing and mailed to the American Moving and Storage Association, Attention: Dispute Settlement Program, 1611 Duke Street, Alexandria, VA 22314-3482. We regret any inconvenience or frustration the member may have experienced and look forward to providing better service in the future."
