We could not be more pleased with Meg and Bayview Tuckpointing. Her work was excellent. It was performed in a very timely manner. She was a delight to work with.

Meg is one of the hardest workers I've had perform repairs on my house. My chimney started leaking and she was at my house the next day to give me an estimate. The first 3 days on the job, Meg worked close to 30 hours. She takes pride in her work and will not finish until she's satisfied with the quality. She put up scaffolding and then went up to cut out mortar joints, caulk, and seal. She tried to keep the dust down with a work vacuum with a hepa filter and also went around at the end of each work day and cleaned up. Meg kept me abreast of exactly what she was doing each day and what the schedule would be. At the end she had to wait for it all to dry and then seal the chimney and she did her best due to a day of rain in between to get things done and everything cleaned up within 2 weeks. I felt complete trust in the job she was doing and confidence that my chimney problem would be solved. I can tell just be looking at it from the ground to 1 1/2 stories up that it is a "work of art" with all the caulking between the stone and the joints and the cracks. It looks very smooth. I had 3 estimates and BVT came in at a cost in the middle of the other two. I've used BVT 10 years ago, so I was pretty sure from the get go I would use them again. Very happy I did. "The Brick and Mortar Craftsmen" is their motto and Meg is definitely an artist in her work.

I have had Meg do work on my house in the past. When it was time to do additional maintenance, there was nobody else I would call. She is professional, fast and meticulous. She took great pains to match the mortar color and left no mess when she was done. I highly recommend Bay View Tuckpointing.

Well. A neighbor wanted referral information so she could contact the company, as well.

Meg responded to our initial phone call promptly. We were flexible about when the work would be done. About 3 weeks after we signed the contract, the work team arrived. The job was done in 3 days. It looks great.

We needed to have this job done quickly as it needed to be finished before our house closing. Several other companies came to give estimates and were reluctant to begin the project because the season was nearing the end with the temperature getting colder. They said it would be difficult to do this job because of how high up it was and that it would take several days because of needing to put up scaffholding. Dennis from Bay Chimney Repair gave us a fair estimate and went out of his way to begin the project the next day. I was very impressed at how efficiently he set up the scaffholding with his apprentice son. Our house was 80 years old and the unusual brick used on the chimney was no longer available. Dennis found a match that blended in very well with the original. He worked tirelessly all day and the job was completed that same day! The craftsmanship was excellent. We could not have been more happy with the finished product. I would highly recommend Dennis Blohowiak at Bay chimney Repair to anyone who is looking for a good chimney repair mason.

The overall tuckpointing experience went well with no issues. The only problem I had was that the contract called for caulking a crack on a window sill with one part polyurethane sealant. This was not done at the time the tuckpointing was performed. I called and left a voice message asking them to caulk this area. A few days later I called again and had to leave a voice message again. A few days after that I faxed a message asking them to seal the crack. As of October 14, the sill has not been caulked.
Response from BAY VIEW TUCKPOINTING CO
"At the time the tuckpointing was completed we did not have the correct color to match the cracked sill. We had to obtain the correct caulk color since we do take pride in our work. Soon after the weather played a factor in the delay. The masonry must be completely dry. As soon as we could coordinate this five minute caulk job with others that were accross town we finished. We did call to notify that the caulking was completed and made sure it was to our clients satisfaction."

Meg responded to my call very quickly. She seemed very knowledgable about the problem and how to correct it. The roof surrounding the chimney in the attic was wet after rains. Meg said the brick was very old and porous and water was soaking through the bricks to the roof whenever it rained. She said the chimney from the roof up would have to be replaced. In a few days she came back with a couple of bricks to choose from and her crew did a beautiful job. Once the work materials and equipment had been taken away, the area was pretty clean, just some old mortar and a little bit of spilled cement for me to clean up. It wasn't bad. The job took about two weeks. My only complaints are: 1) As she was selling the job to me and we were talking I mentioned that I had not been able to clean my gutters because ladder placement was difficult and she said as long as they were up on the roof they would clean them out. I agreed and told her I wanted to proceed. As they wrapped up the job, I asked Meg if they had cleaned the gutters as promised and she said no. It sounded like she had forgotten. She sent someone back to do it and then billed me an extra $60 for it. 2) They left tarps, cement mixer and other materials across the front lawn for several days after they had finished, including over a weekend. I assume this is because, as Meg told me, the next job was nearby and rather than trucking it away and bringing it back when they were ready to start they just left it with me.
Response from BAY VIEW TUCKPOINTING CO
"Our client and I verbally discussed a minimal cost for the additional work he was requesting after the initial contract was signed. He asked if I knew of a gutter cleaning company. I suggested the local paper. He asked since we were there could we take care of it. I stated there would be a minimal cost. We did not write up an additional work order since he was a local client in Bay View and we still believe in a hand shake. We did send the client a invoice and he stated nothing was in writing. We never received payment for the time to send a field representative over, put up ladders and clean and dispose of leaves. He was correct in stating that everything should be in writing. Unfortunately the hand shake no longer exists. In addition, I spoke with him and asked if we could leave the few materials on site for a few days. The clients response was yes."

The owner was prompt, efficient and professional. She had a practical idea for how to fix our leaking basement wall. She and her workers did a great job on the wall. We've had heavy rains since then -- and no more leaks! They also tuckpointed the exterior brick. They paid attention to detail. Very efficient; we were happy with their work.

Things went well. We called. Meg responded quickly. The estimate was done in a timely manner. The estimate was good. The work was started within a reasonable amount of time. The work was started and finished efficiently. There was some extra work done that we paid a bit of extra money for. This work was not included in the estimate, but we decided that it was worth it to pay a little extra. The work was well done.

They were quick to respond to the request for quote, visiting the house and perform the work. The house has a non-standard color motar and a previous repair looked horrible, with a very different color. BV was able to get very close in matching the color of the original motar. One small line that was cut out was missed in the original repair and they were quick to respond. The final price was a little higher than the original estimate, but additional work was completed that was not apparent until repairs were started.

The work that was quoted did not take care of all the issues (didn't notice the other bad areas on the chimney). This resulted in additional charges that I agreed to, but I was disappointed that I had to point out the additional areas to them. They came back on their own to re-do an area that did not turn out the first time. Overall their work was well done, but my wife was not happy that they failed to cover the plants next to the house or rinse them off when they were done. The tuck pointing material burned several of the plants.

OVERALL: GOOD, SOLID, QUALITY, PROFESSIONAL WORK. WE HAD KNOWN THAT THE CHIMNEY NEEDED TO BE TUCKPOINTED AND SEALED, THEN THE CAP JUST FELL APART WHILE INSPECTING FOR THE JOB. MEG WAS ABLE TO WORK THE LARGER JOB INTO HER SCHEDULE, AND DID GREAT WORK. I GIVE MEG'S GUYS A B ON QUALITY SOLELY BECAUSE THEY NEGLECTED TO PATCH THE HOLES LEFT FROM THE SCAFFOLDING WHEN THEY WERE DONE. THIS WAS DISCOVERED DURING A SUBSEQUENT RAINSTORM, AND WAS REPAIRED BY KELLY REIMER OF REIMER ROOFING AND REMODELING (SEE REPORT ON THEM FOR A NEW ROOF ON OUR OLD HOUSE). NOT A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM, BUT AN OVERSIGHT NONETHELESS.

OUR NEWLY-PURCHASED HOME HAS WHAT IS BELIEVED TO BE UNIQUE (FOR WISCONSIN, ANYWAY) GREEN SANDSTONE FOR MUCH OF THE EXTERIOR. THIS PORUS STONE RECEIVES MUCH ABUSE FROM THE FREEZE-THAW CYCLE OF OUR WINTERS, AND HAD NOT BEEN WELL-CARED-FOR BY THE PREVIOUS OWNERS. MEG DIAGNOSED THE SITUATION, DETERMINED WHAT COULD BE DONE TO REPAIR THE MATERIAL AND WHAT COULD BE DONE TO SLOW THE PROGRESSION OF ANY FURTHER DETERIORATION- AND HOW TO DO SO WHILE REMAINING FAITHFUL TO THE UNIQUE LOOK OF THE STONE. THE OTHER MASONS WE CONTACTED WOULD HAVE DONE SIMILAR WORK FOR A SIMILAR PRICE, BUT PAID NO ATTENTION TO THE UNIQUE COLORING AND PROPERTIES OF OUR STONE (''MORTAR IS MORTAR, WE'LL JUST PUT SOME CONCRETE MORTAR HERE...'') MEG AND HER CREW WENT BEYOND SIMPLY DOING THE WORK NECESSARY, BUT DID THE THOROUGH AND DETAILED WORK OF AN ARTISAN. WE ARE MOST THANKFUL.

CONTRACTOR DID NOT USE CORRECT SIZED BLOCK. AS A RESULT, COURSES DO NOT MATCH & CONTRACTOR USED A BOARD AT THE TOP OF THE WINDOW TO FINISH THE JOB. I EXPECTED TO HAVE THE JOB DONE RIGHT & INSTEAD THE CONTRACTOR DID "A JOB." CONTRACTOR WAS NOT PROFESSIONAL IN DISCUSSING RESOLUTION. OFFERED A $100 DISCOUNT TO RESOLVE.

WORKERS WERE GREAT, THE WORK WAS WELL DONE. MEG KEPT IN TOUCH WITH ME TO LET ME KNOW THE SCHEDULING THROUGHOUT THE JOB AS THE JOB IS WEATHER DEPENDENT. THEY ARE THE TIDIEST CONTRACTORS I HAVE HAD. AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE JOB, MEG LEFT ME A VOICE MESSAGE THANKING ME FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK ON MY HOUSE.
