Jill H. St. Francis, WI 02 9/25/2022 First to Review It started out back in Jan 2022.. He seemed nice and polite but it just went downhill. He started way later than he thought and he showed up very seldomly.. very little got done after the kitchen had barely been gutted at ALL..after first few couple months to start.... After that, he had a family emergency..I was very understanding of that and I waited and waited and waited.. I told him I would understand if he needed to end the contract but he said no, he would finish it.. numerous times.. Everything got delayed for months and he would over and over say he would be there and wouldn't be. Mary Jo( owner) would call him but she would say she couldn't do anything.....nothing really changed.I had to constantly move stuff and back out of the kitchen thinking He would arrive.. almost never did..After I ended the contract, I had other contractors come in and look and they said it looked like an amature home owner did it.. gaps, cheap material , uneven, not 90 degree angels, etc.. and it would cost me more than I paid him ( which was a lot) to re- gut it and re do everything to make nice.. I'm sorry about his family problems. but it was NOT handled professionally- I was not a priority it felt from the beginning and even less and less as time went on as he wasn't getting paid anymore since he was way outside the time line of the contract... Cheap materials, and he admitted even he had to focus on his family (so I was basically just a crap job).. Updated as of 9/26/2022 The original project was to be a total remodel of the one kitchen area( not the bathroom area in the beginning) It was to be cabinet installation, new floors, soffits out, headers, shoeing, framing around windows, etc.. When I saw how crazy the ceiling looked and uneven and not straight etc with gaps , I was very surprised and I thought- why is he just patching everything in a very uneven sloppy way and didn't he just put in a new ceiling?? So I mentioned it..He told me it wouldn't be a big deal..at least what he said, . Mark and I talked about the idea of the bigger kitchen idea to make it bigger way back in the Jan/ Feb- ish time frame but I decided to think about it for a little bit first.... .. he said' Well you can always do that as a later project" I did end up deciding to do it about a month later then since he was already doing the work. If he couldn't do it, he should have just said so.. That being said, I'm sure I'm not the first customer to ask to add things on after the start. Again, the family emergency was very sad and I'm nothing but sympathetic, but it wasn't handled in a professional manner. He should have just been upfront that he couldn't do it instead of dragging me along for months and months and months..very unprofessional and not nice... ... He also left 3 foot wide holes in the kitchen floor that someone could have fallen into the basement, huge not safe messes all the time so I couldn't even get through even though he said it was usable.. He was very nice but almost never showed up from the beginning when he said he would.. not professional.. I always was very supportive of his family issues and again, asked several times if he wanted to end the contract , he said no.. I had other contractors look at the current situation and say that they had never seen anything like it and they would have to totally re gut it to start over and make it correct..... wrong kind of pine for inside, not straight angles, gaps behind boards etc-Again, I'm very sorry for the family issues but it is a job and either he should have ended the contract much earlier or just gotten it done properly and done a proper job!- I always wished him the best..

"Dear [Member Name Removed], We are sorry that Mark struggled to keep up with everything you decided to change after the start of your cabinet project. When Mark met with you it was for cabinets only. Once the project started you decided to keep adding on to the work for which you wanted Mark to complete. By doing this it not only hurt the timing of your project but also the timing of many other customers on schedule. Mark was trying his best to accommodate everything you wanted to complete as you and Mark went along. It is unfortunate that we can't control family emergencies from happening. We know you reached out to MaryJo and her hand were tied as there was nothing we could do about Mark'[Member Information Removed] fmaily emergency or when he hurt himself on your job. Mark had notified the office that you kept adding more and more onto the project and that woulod cause a huge delay. We were notified by the plumber you hired that you made it very diffcult for him and he stopped working on your project. Mark did his best to keep your project a priority with the constant mind changes and additions to your projects really hurt schedules. This job was for cabinets and resulted into a remodel of a kitchen. Adding on patch work then after the patch work deciding to take out all of the ceiling and redo the ceiling is a major change to the scheduled job. These are accommodations we try our best to make these changes happen at the request of the home owners. Are we happy with how everything played out that would be a no. Our goal is to keep great customer relationships and provide a positive experience. We do wish you well with any upcoming projects you have in your future."

They didn't fix the leak, it is still leaking. They are rude.
Response from A Fresh Look Handyman
"We spoke on the phone yesterday. I thought we had a great conversation regarding the leak and that we tried our best to get it handled with multiple trips. Unfortunately Rubber roofs are awful and unless you have the entire rubber roof replaced more than likely the leak won't go away. We did try our best."

Our previous handyman is now focused on his other business so we were in need of establishing a new relationship with a new Handyman. We had a list of small items including installing new outdoor motion light, installing aluminum trim on outdoor glass block window and hanging artwork in 4 rooms. All the work was done perfectly and we expect to use them again for future projects.

Plum and square, which is important. No window sills to match the rest of the house. I ended up making them! No drip edge, which would be proper. Redid the calking....Many gaps... Siding should have been cut back to allow a wider casing that would match the other windows. Worker who did it was very pleasant but overall I was dissatisfied as previous statements would indicate..

"Dear Customer, I do show the completion date was in May 2019. Your work would have a 2 year labor guarantee that your craftsmen has to honor. Any issues would have been taken care of."

I called far in advance to get on their calendar. Maryjo got David out promptly to review the written work plan. I never heard back, so 2 weeks later I called Maryjo and was advised that David was no longer with her. She promptly sent Jeff, and I gave him the written work plan. Jeff promised to start at 9 am and showed up at 2 pm. He failed to bring material we discussed, so he left soon thereafter. Several days passed before he would return. Other scheduled work days followed that same pattern. He did get some work completed. Quality of work was often a problem. Biggest problem was Jeff's turning off water to one bathroom to remove and replace a faucet. He needed a longer bolt and went to buy one. He returned 5 days later, and all that time the bathroom was unusable. I called Maryjo several time. She always responded and tried to help, but couldn't seem to get Jeff going. Finally I asked Maryjo for her invoice, cut the firm loose and hired another firm who redid much of what Jeff did poorly or what Jeff simply didn't get to. He finished in no time. When I got Jeff's bill, there was no detail and the amount would have paid for top quality work. I complained and they discounted it for the amount I paid to get Jeff's work corrected. I still overpaid by 20%. I really felt Maryjo tried, but she wasn't able to motivate her employe. During invoice discussions, she threatened denying giving me a lien waiver if I submitted this review. I did anyway and now I'm done with A Fresh Look Handyman.
Response from A Fresh Look Handyman
"You are correct I did everything with in my power and legal limits to get this work done for you and to work with you on a fair price for all the work completed in the job scope. I did state that payment would need to be made to receive a lien waiver from the office. I did let Jeff go as a result of this job."
