The crew did a great job through the entire process. I would definitely recommend D & M Concrete to friends and neighbors in the future.
The project was completed on time by obviously knowledgeable and skilled craftsmen who showed impressive teamwork. The site was cleaned up right away. There were no hidden or extra costs.
Overall, this is a great company to work with.
The job went great! I originally signed contract July 2014 and Dand M had so many jobs to complete that my project was delayed until later in the year. They kept me up-to-date on their schedule and quoted mid-October to beginning November. Contacted me that they would be at my house at 7:00 am October 27 for pre-construction meeting. Were on time. Met and discussed the project and was told tear out would be Monday and pour would be Tuesday. All was done as promised. Couldn't be happier.
Had a neighbor walk by on Friday and asked about the job and was impressed by the price and quality of the result. I referred her to Dand M.
Thanks Guys!
Very well done
fast, on-time, friendly
My only complaint was the mess left in the yard, but after complaining about it, D and M Concrete made it right.
Bob showed up right on time (7am), ready to do some work. We went over the plan and he started working. I talked him into helping remove a few patio stones so I could give them to a friend, so we stacked about 20 or so to the side.
Jason (the finisher), a new guy and the concrete removal guy all showed up shortly after work began. Removal went smooth. The bobcat guy did his best to keep from tearing holes in the yard, but couldn't avoid leaving deep tracks as he went through the only open place in my privacy fence. Bob and Jason propped up the stairs to my deck to have room for the pour to get just underneath them. Bobcat guy disappeared.
Not even an hour into the work and everyone was sweating. It hit 93 that day and super-high humidity. I went down and got a case of water and 20lbs of ice to make sure everyone was hydrated.
Bobcat guy reappeared with the gravel/base. Forms laid, gravel down, concrete on order. Things were zippin' right along. Before the pour started, they put some plastic along the side of my house, turns out it was so the sealer they apply as a last step didn't get on my siding!
Then came the window-framing. All 3 guys worked to get this done. It looked tedious. Jason doing all he could to keep the stinging sweat from rolling into his eyes, while trying to do this 'neato' finish work. 'New guy' was cleaning up all the tools and stuff from the yard.
When done, it looked great! All the info I needed of when I could walk on it and sealing it was provided.
Everyone was friendly. Obviously this was a job for the Pro's...not a pseudo-handyman like myself.
I though the price was fair and I received a good value for the money.
If there was a and quot;-and quot; (minus) option in the grading system here, I would add that to the 'A' for the quality. I'm no concrete guy and this is the first outside/fancy thing I ever paid for. It was blast-furnace hot and I could tell the workers were quickly trying to work the concrete before it setup in the scorching sun... But, there is a small area on the curved side, that had a slightly different material used when laying out the form. It consequently left a slightly irregular shape in the curve. No-one else may ever notice it...it might not be visible once I lay the colored brick around that edge...?
After the concrete cured, I was concerned about a gap between the driveway and the brick of the house, so Dan sent out one of the
crew to caulk and fill the gap (again at no additional cost to me). At Dan's recommendation I had the driveway sealed in the fall, and the driveway weathered the harsh winter with no deterioration of any kind.
I appreciated the professional way all work was done and all the free upgrades that they provided. I did choose the include upgrades such as a thicker layer of cement and more closely spaced rebar. I would recommend them without reservation (and have to friends and to people who have stopped by to ask who did the work).
They were responsive, cooperative and creative.
We met with him the following week to talk about the final details. We had hoped to expand the apron on our driveway to the full width the city originally provided in laying out the curb and gutter (our previous asphalt driveway only filled part of the opening). Dan worked with the City of Madison, only to be told that not only could we not expand the apron, but we had to spend an extra $200 to redo the curb and gutter so that it was the same width as the new poured driveway. This is city bureaucracy as its worst. I'm sure this was a headache for Dan, and we felt like he tried his best on our behalf.
Dan was very responsive, and kept the lines of communication open. We did downgrade him just a bit for being unable to prevail in our disagreement with the city. His staff seemed competent and we are very pleased with the work that was done. We recommend him without reservation.
