Appears there is new ownership and a new charging system at
Merrill Sheet Metal Works ....future billings now include a $75 diagnostic fee?..owner
says to cover overhead costs. For me there was nothing to diagnose, as I showed
the service guy which valve and even had a step-ladder and drop-light in place.
My total invoice on December, 2014 was $366.21 for installing on a Honeywell
Zone Valve motor - # V8043E. 

I have lived in this house for almost 30 years which has a 3 zone,
hot water, baseboard heating system.

Merrill Sheet Metal replaced a zone valve in 2010 with a total invoice
cost of about $200. The replacement Valve then could be purchased for $60 to
$70 but was billed out at $128. In 2010 they also had a hourly rate of $85 and
a $20 trip charge.

Today, the invoice shows the following 3 items: Diagnostic fee $75.00,
install Zone Valve $272.12 and tax $19.09. This is clearly a rip-off.

We were unable to remove our original firebox without damaging our stonework and Merrill Sheet Metal worked out a way to replace it from the rear, saving our stonework. They did an excellent job installing and replacing chimney and siding, etc. there was a problem with some chimney caulking and they came immediately and corrected the problem. We are extremely happy with the new fireplace and the people at Merrill Sheet Metal!

Installed new furnace and set up for central air to be installed in the spring.

Everything was great - sometimes companies say they are 24 hour and really aren't - Merrill Sheet Metal really is.  When we saw the scorch marks we weren't sure about the unit's safety - Kurt's willingness to come out to check on the unit at 7pm made everyone in the family feeler safer and more comfortable. He was open and honest about what he found and his recommendations. As they were already packed for the week, Kurt came out to install the new unit after hours to ensure that it got taken care of asap. We love our new water heater! For the first time since we moved into the house 17 years ago there's enough hot water for everyone to get ready in the morning - and enough left over to do dishes or laundry!

The original owner retired.  The new owner is Kurt Wendt; but they have the same employees.  We are having some other remodeling done in the house and they found a problem with our furnace, which we had also asked them to check it.  They are coming in again to put a new furnace.  They are very dependable and very courteous.  They are efficient.  When we called them with a problem just recently with the unit they had installed, they came right back and repaired it immediately.  The price was very fair.

They do all our work and they are excellent. They are honest, friendly, and they are prompt.
