We had a new gas fireplace that was to be installed in basement. We contacted great american fireplace to install it and we found out that the piping was no longer in production. They were able to get some ordered with a little lead time. This was going to slow down project, but while at their showroom we found a brick we liked for the front of the fireplace. So we were able to stay on schedule and we love the fireplace and how it turned out.

We gave them the plan and signed the contract in April. Finally in August the work began. We're were on a schedule to get in the house before winter set in which we made clear at the signing. We barely made it and I was still working when the movers came.
All in all, the materials were sub standard, and the workmanship shoddy. I just found out that my 12 year old roof will have to be replaced due to cheap shingles that were installed incorrectly. The roofers, and I use that term loosely didn't bother to use any flashing which now is causing the roof to leak at the seams and valleys. The concrete work wasn't packed down properly and is sinking and cracked. The windows leak and aren't sealed properly. The siding was installed unprofessionally. Exterior doors aren't air tight.
Once these guys got our money, they were gone for good.

The project started going downhill right near the start, with employees showing up on the jobsite late and doing sub-par work. This low quality work continued for weeks, to the point where I refused to continue paying them. They then tried to file a mechanics lien against the property, which my attorney got released. They then sued me--I countersued--and the case proceeded through unsuccessful court-ordered mediation, to pre-trial conferences, to an offer to settle by Dale Amundson and Great American Homes. Since I have put this bad experience behind me, there have been additional bad things that have turned up regarding the construction of this home.
