Don also uncovered a few other things that weren't right. We were not able to replace the ceiling fan in the master bedroom due to the ceiling height being too low, so he capped this box for us very neatly. He was able to replace our kitchen ceiling fan with the new model we had chosen, although he discovered that there was no fan box in place there but rather a regular fixture box. He had to do some cutting around the hole, working in a plaster ceiling, in order to get the proper fan box in. He was very careful not to go too fast and cause damage or cracks in the ceiling. The new fan went up without a problem and looks wonderful!
Don also helped us trouble shoot/experiment with a and quot;mystery swtichand quot; and a light fixture that would not light up. Ultimately he diagnosed the mystery switch as being two 120v wires, and re-capped them recommending that they not be used. We are still not sure what those were about! He determined that the fixture that would not light was simply not connected to anything anymore, and rather than try to track down the wiring for that fixture, he said he could wire it to connect in with another group that does work upon a later visit.
We also discussed adding in a new switch and fixture for the basement stairwell on his next visit.
pleased all around. After evaluating our household needs, he gave us
valuable feedback on on what type of service and equipment we should get . He's been
back twice since then, taking care of several small projects that we
needed done. He's always quick to call back, prompt for the appointment
and very reasonable with his pricing. He works very quickly and has
never left a mess. He's very personable and I will absolutely recommend
him to anyone.
While his price was competitive with other quotes, he seemed to be the most knowledgeable and forthright about what exactly was needed for the job.
The job was split into two portions, the rough install of the wiring which would later be concealed, which had to be verified by the city inspector, and then the finish, which entailed installing actual new ceiling lights, switches, and outlets to the newly finished walls. Don took care to check with the city inspector on a couple of questions before proceeding with work, in order to avoid any problems during the inspection.
His work came in exactly on budget and took the time he had estimated. He took time while he was here to explain what he thought about the wiring setup in the house as it was, and how he would change it, and what the codes exactly said and how his wiring would meet code.
All in all, no issues arose when the inspector came, and the job was professionally done on time and on budget. We'd definitely work with Don again.
On top of it all, he was friendly, courteous, and our dog loved him! We will definitely hire him out again for our future electrical projects.
