"This Response was respectfully submitted by BCI Exteriors: CUSTOMER: I was unhappy with them. It didn't go that well because the person that did the estimate got a lot more wood than I needed for the job. He has since left the company. BCI Response: As normal practice we always send more material than needed, after 33yrs in the construction business we know that things don’t always go as planned. In order to keep our costs reasonable we have to make sure we don’t have employees standing around with their hands in their pockets and making extra trips for materials. We have to be as efficient as possible. CUSTOMER: My cost was a lot higher and they didn't even use half of the wood for the job. They didn't take it back. BCI Response: We can understand that the Guenthers feel that the additional wood was sent at their expense however on a job like theirs we create our estimate off of the job detail i.e., 2nd & 3rd story, 1912 home, man hours, ect. Having said that after the job was complete we found that we estimated more man hours than needed and issued them a $300 credit. After explaining to the Guenthers that we were going to deduct the $300 from their invoice we told them they could keep the extra wood because we dropped it off early so they could paint it knowing that when we intall the new soffit it would be very difficult and dangerous for them to try and paint it. Also their home was built in 1912 we figured that down the road there may be more issues and having the extra painted soffit (which was specific to their home) may save them time and money. This was all explained to them, and at the time of the phone call that was acceptable. CUSTOMER: The company didn't communicate very well and they were disorganized with what my issue was. The estimator had told me that if there was extra wood the company would take it back and that proved not to be the case. BCI Response: Our communication was not the greatest on this job we will admit to that, the estimator who sold this job, shortly after the sale had left the company. Much to our dismay, we found out from the homeowner they were leaving messages on the salespersons voice mail and not calling the office with their questions and/or concerns. This is why we discourage our sales staff from giving out personal phone numbers. Unfortunately that salesperson didn’t relay any of the messages to BCI so we were blind to Guenthers questions and/or concerns. CUSTOMER: The work was fine and I didn't have any trouble with that. BCI Response: We felt that the job turned out beautifully considering that the house was originally built in 1912, finding materials that match is a chore in itself, not to mention installing it to 1912 standards. So we were very pleased with the outcome! CUSTOMER: It didn't take as long in the number of hours spent on the job and I have a whole bunch of wood that I don't really need. BCI Response: Again a credit was issued long before this Angies list member made these comments, and as far as the extra wood we have contacted the Guenthers and have offered to remove it. However we still feel it’s in their best interest to keep it and put it off to the side. That may save them time and money down the road. CUSTOMER: They got here when they said they were going to be here but initially they said they were going to come a couple of minutes earlier. I wouldn't use them again. BCI Response: From time to time we may be delayed by a few minutes, there are a number of variables we contend with each day from picking up materials from our supplier (we are at their mercy), traffic, Ect. As far as the Guenthers not wanting to use BCI again we respect that, we know after 33 years you just can’t make everyone happy. However we would gladly help them with any project they have in the future."
Anyway, in the end, the job was done to my satisfaction.
