They over charged for the installed windows, installed by one company and lien taken by another company, verbal threats and trespass. We are presently in legal battle.

I was unhappy with them. It didn't go that well because the person that did the estimate got a lot more wood than I needed for the job. He has since left the company. My cost was a lot higher and they didn't even use half of the wood for the job. They didn't take it back. The company didn't communicate very well and they were disorganized with what my issue was. The estimator had told me that if there was extra wood the company would take it back and that proved not to be the case. The work was fine and I didn't have any trouble with that. It didn't take as long in the number of hours spent on the job and I have a whole bunch of wood that I don't really need. They got here when they said they were going to be here but initially they said they were going to come a couple of minutes earlier. I wouldn't use them again.
Response from BCI Exteriors, Inc.
"This Response was respectfully submitted by BCI Exteriors: CUSTOMER: I was unhappy with them. It didn't go that well because the person that did the estimate got a lot more wood than I needed for the job. He has since left the company. BCI Response: As normal practice we always send more material than needed, after 33yrs in the construction business we know that things don’t always go as planned. In order to keep our costs reasonable we have to make sure we don’t have employees standing around with their hands in their pockets and making extra trips for materials. We have to be as efficient as possible. CUSTOMER: My cost was a lot higher and they didn't even use half of the wood for the job. They didn't take it back. BCI Response: We can understand that the Guenthers feel that the additional wood was sent at their expense however on a job like theirs we create our estimate off of the job detail i.e., 2nd & 3rd story, 1912 home, man hours, ect. Having said that after the job was complete we found that we estimated more man hours than needed and issued them a $300 credit. After explaining to the Guenthers that we were going to deduct the $300 from their invoice we told them they could keep the extra wood because we dropped it off early so they could paint it knowing that when we intall the new soffit it would be very difficult and dangerous for them to try and paint it. Also their home was built in 1912 we figured that down the road there may be more issues and having the extra painted soffit (which was specific to their home) may save them time and money. This was all explained to them, and at the time of the phone call that was acceptable. CUSTOMER: The company didn't communicate very well and they were disorganized with what my issue was. The estimator had told me that if there was extra wood the company would take it back and that proved not to be the case. BCI Response: Our communication was not the greatest on this job we will admit to that, the estimator who sold this job, shortly after the sale had left the company. Much to our dismay, we found out from the homeowner they were leaving messages on the salespersons voice mail and not calling the office with their questions and/or concerns. This is why we discourage our sales staff from giving out personal phone numbers. Unfortunately that salesperson didn’t relay any of the messages to BCI so we were blind to Guenthers questions and/or concerns. CUSTOMER: The work was fine and I didn't have any trouble with that. BCI Response: We felt that the job turned out beautifully considering that the house was originally built in 1912, finding materials that match is a chore in itself, not to mention installing it to 1912 standards. So we were very pleased with the outcome! CUSTOMER: It didn't take as long in the number of hours spent on the job and I have a whole bunch of wood that I don't really need. BCI Response: Again a credit was issued long before this Angies list member made these comments, and as far as the extra wood we have contacted the Guenthers and have offered to remove it. However we still feel it’s in their best interest to keep it and put it off to the side. That may save them time and money down the road. CUSTOMER: They got here when they said they were going to be here but initially they said they were going to come a couple of minutes earlier. I wouldn't use them again. BCI Response: From time to time we may be delayed by a few minutes, there are a number of variables we contend with each day from picking up materials from our supplier (we are at their mercy), traffic, Ect. As far as the Guenthers not wanting to use BCI again we respect that, we know after 33 years you just can’t make everyone happy. However we would gladly help them with any project they have in the future."

They ridge vent was good. But the attic insulation was horrible. It was lacking in a lot of areas. It was very shotty work.

It was a very pleasant experience. I had gotten 3 bids and theirs was the lowest. My fiance who is an IL contractor met with all of them after I first met with them. He felt one of the bids was crazy. The other was ok but in talking with BCS, could see no reason not to use them and they were the cheapest. BCI showed up with their team, they tore off the roof, fixed the turret and reshingled in about a week. It was fast, the clean up was good and the people were very nice.

They had to take the gutters off to complete the project and when they reinstalled them there was a issue. They left a gap between the roof and the house. I asked them numerous times to address this issue, but to date they have not come back or responded.

The salesman said that with the and quot;hidden ventand quot; soffits, they would cut a vent along the entire length of the house, which would improve attic ventilation. As I observed the workers, this had not been done. They said it was not specified on the work order, They DID pull off what they had started and cut the vent anyway, but there was apparently a lack of communication from the salesman. I didn't notice anything unusual on the write-up as I assumed the vent automatically came with this type of soffit.

Anyway, in the end, the job was done to my satisfaction.

They did a very good job. I'd use them again. I thought they could wrap my windows, but they were honest and said they couldn't do it with the angles. I appreciated their honesty and not charging me for something they couldn't do.

We have used them before. It was very good from start to finish. The only problem we had was the follow through for submitting the proper materials and paperwork for a rebate we were supposed to receive. We are still working it out. The work was high quality and they were timely. They did a great job on the clean up; we couldn't even tell they had been here. Update on May 16, 2011: BCI did successfully submit the materials required for our rebate and we did finally receive a check from the manufacturer. I would ask for some one other than Jeff Wruck to assist you with your project. He's not always timely in returning calls. Everyone else in the company has been responsive and completed quality work.

Got estimate in the winter. We agreed on the job and an approximate start date was set. The date was delayed several times due to a previous job running over. Once the project started things moved fairly rapidly and efficiently. When the project was "finished" we had to call them back to fully complete the job. They forgot to caulk several joints and the painting of the trim was never fully completed. Clean up was inconsistent as I am still finding nails in my yard. Overall the job looks nice but I feel for the price I paid I had to do too much follow up to have it completed to satisfaction.

We decided to go with BCI because it was on a sheet of recommended contractors from our home inspector who is a well known and competent inspector in town. BCI was more expensive then all of our other quotes but their description of work to be done was appropriate to the needs of our home and very thorough. We were impressed by their quote and that they came out on very short notice. We were told it was a one day job as we have a smaller home (two bedroom) and that a sizable crew would come out. Unfortunately, they sent only three people. They finished the garage right away and left the house for the next day. The salesman misinformed the crew that there was three layers of shingles to tear off so it took them three days. They failed to tarp the roof properly the second night which resulted in a lot of water in out attic. This was frustrating because I called them to question the lack of tarp and was told that it would be fine. When we called to complain about the water they seemed surprised and never apologized. They also damaged our porch pillars and scratched our back kitchen window by pushing too much old shingle off the roof at one time. This was done by inexperienced workers that should have been better supervised. They were also very careless with keeping debris on the tarp and off our lawn. Finally, by the early evening on the third day the work was complete but they left a lot of debris on our roof, gutters and yard. I filled a kitty litter bucket full of nails, staples and old shingles from the gutters. We had to call them back to clean the nails up from our lawn and the neighbors. The left with buckets full of old nails. We then inspected the roof and found that many shingles were scuffed down to the underlying asphalt. This was due to carelessness while working in warm temps. They offered to come out with a Gaf/Elk expert to inspect the problem. Along with the damaged shingles, there were some broken shingles, exposed nails (some caulked over) and irregularities in the laying of the shingle. For the most part the roof looked good, it was laid very straight horizontally and the gaps met minimum requirements although probably not cut to specs. However, The Gaf/Elk expert agreed the damaged shingles should be replaced. They also left a 6-8inch gap from a broken board that should have been replaced but was ignored. BCI agreed to promptly resolve our issue and sent an experienced roofer out to fix the shingles and after our reminding again, the missing board. There were other issues of note as well. The company that delivered the shingles for BCI placed the shingle packs over the ridge of the roof. This goes against Gaf/Elk recommendations. They also tossed shingle packs off the roof to the ground which is probably not a good idea. Overall, we were very disappointed. However, BCI did follow up and correct the problem. I feel this job was poorly planned out from the start, a minimal crew was sent out who quickly became overwhelmed. The roof does not leak and is acceptable from what I can see. There are still some scuffed shingles.

The did the roof tear-off and replacement of the garage of the garage and the house in one 10 hour work day. They had about 12 guys working at one time for the tear off. The siding was just as fast. They cleaned up the area nicely. Their bid was much higher than other contractors, but we got what we paid for and we're really happy with the work and speed of completion.

Once the work began, it was completed in 3 days. The crew cleaned up daily. The final work looks great. The bid from this company was a little bit higher than other companies, but we went with them because they were willing to completely tear off existing wooden eaves that were falling down.

Kevin lead the roofing team. This team was professional, courteous, and efficient. Every member of this team worked hard the whole time they were here. I heard pleasant conversation between them and no foul language was used. They did a fantastic job cleaning up at the end of each day and at the end of the job. I hunted for nails and couldnt find a one! I was amazed at the clean up. Neighbors even noticed how clean the area was when they were done. They did an excellent job of protecting my house and plants as they worked. I would welcome any of them back at anytime to do work for me.
