MURPHY'S HOME IMPROVEMENTS

Kevin was referred to us by our son who was very happy with his work. Kevin replaced our front door, storm door and also replaced bi-fold closet doors with sliding doors. All the work was done professionally and we’re very satisfied with the quality of his work. He was here as promised and finished as scheduled. We felt the price was fair and would definitely recommend him.

I found Kevin Murphy because he is a dealer for Sunrise Windows. I had been researching windows and connected with the regional sales manager for Sunrise who informed me that Kevin was one of their installers/dealers. I like Sunrise windows a lot. Kevin installed 9 of them and the door for me. I found Kevin to be reasonably patient. It took me a long time to finally settle on this brand and even more so on the exact specs for the windows. Because of the many options available with windows now days, I ended up using different options on windows on different sides of my house- ie Solar heat gain coefficient option on south facing windows and easy clean coating on the second story windows-(even though the windows can be cleaned from inside the house) etc. It took a couple of tries before Kevin got all the details correct on all of the windows, but in the end he did. I had to be a it patient here. I found that he communicated quite well and showed up on time--as contractors go he rates very well here. He responded to my phone calls and emails within a day or two and arrived on time or pretty close to it. One time he didn't call and was about 45 minutes late. After talking with him about it, the next time he called when he was only going to be 10 minutes late. Very responsive. .His pricing is fair and reasonable. I did get other bids. And Sunrise windows are right up there with the best of them- not cheap. He also offered to throw in at no charge a couple of little extra tasks, as in putting a pull on an extremely large interior sliding door so that I could open and close it. It did take a bit longer to get the job started than I had been led to believe, mostly due to the difficulty in getting all the info I needed about the windows before I could make a decision and then to getting the correct options on the right windows before ordering them. The install did take a day longer than expected- I think 4 days on the job instead of 3. And the job spanned about a week or 8 days because he needed some time elsewhere in his life. For me, this was not an issue. He asked if it would be OK and I told him it would be fine. He cleaned up all of the debris and hauled it away very well and never left any opennings open to the weather when he left. He took the curtains off of the windows before starting work on them, rather than me having to do this. I asked him if he would be able to replace them as well. I was pleasantly surprised when he said yes. However, putting up window treatments is not his forte. I would recommend doing them yourself, because otherwise you're likely to end up re-replacing them anyway. :-) Over all this was a very positive experience. I had the opportunity to meet his family and they were very pleasant as well. One note: He generally works alone. He did bring on a second contractor to assist with the second story windows, because I have dangerous rocky terrain below- difficult to set a ladder securely. In general, because he works alone, he is only able to do relatively smaller jobs, but give him a call and see if your job is the right size for him.

I researched contractors and received several quotes for over a year before I decided on a contractor.  I went to all the usual big names and for one reason or another eliminated all of them (lack of follow-up, too expensive, not enough positive reviews (had been burned in the past), lack of communication between sales people and workers, used subcontractors, not right product match, etc.  
After much frustration and time, I decided there must be a small business out there that could meet my needs (quality product, good installation, clean, attention to detail and less cost).    That's when Kevin Murphy's name came up from a neighbor.   He returned my call promptly, was honest (much appreciated) and up front with his quote.  Absolutely no pressure.  He also mentioned another brand I had not researched.  
I did the due diligence and decided on the way I wanted to go.  Gave him a call, he ordered the patio door and kitchen window for me.  In early December the weather was quite warm so he was able to do the install.  He gave me some more options on the window once it was roughed in and added a shelf  that matched the trim.  Excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail.  I was so excited with the results I had him frame one of my bathroom mirrors too!  
He's very versatile, fast (was in and out in 1-1/2 days), efficient and went above and beyond. He was timely and I found him trustworthy - I felt comfortable leaving him in my home alone and he kept an eye on my dog (for no extra charge!).  
I'm glad I hired Kevin and plan on having him back next year to do my front door and some more windows... maybe a deck, who knows!   If you hire Kevin, I'm sure you'll be pleased.

Our house is 100 years old this year and Kevin has always made sure the work he's done is keeping with the original aesthetic of our home. His work is on-time, on-budget, and he is always tidy and professional. I can't recommend him enough.
