Tim's quote came in the lowest. Additionally, when I called each contractor a week later, Tim was the only one who really seemed to remember specific details about the property - so he was clearly paying attention during the inspection.
We also had a tight timeline, since we were moving from California to Wisconsin in June - so the floors absolutely needed to be done and finished a week before we arrived (to give the finish time to cure). Tim understood this and did everything he could to make sure the floors were done on time - even a few days early.
Tim also worked with us on the final bill. Since both my parents and in-laws live nearby, they did a large amount of prep-work (removing old carpet, tack strips and subflooring). Tim accounted for this and only charged us for his actual labor. This saved us hundreds.
Because we were unable to see the work in person, Tim emailed us photos as he went, which was very reassuring.
Tim and his crew did great work - I would recommend them in a heartbeat!
They completed the work quickly, working overtime to meet the increased workload from the replacement. The new floor looks impeccable. The repaired floor looks nearly new, with the patches blending seamlessly into the old floor.
Tim (the owner), and his crew of 2 took a period of 5 days to completely strip, sand and smooth, seal and protect our floors. They were all hardworking and seemed to pay attention to detail. One of the guys was new and was learning, but he impressed me as well.
Communication was great. We always knew when exactly we would be able to walk on the floor each day (in socks), since that floor houses our only bathroom. They always told us what step came next, and even what to expect visually, so we wouldn't freak out if it looked weird after they left for the day. It took longer in days than the project actually took, because it overlapped a weekend.
Our floors now look brand new, and folks come over and just stare at it, going, "Wow. Wow." We agree! The "new" floors don't have the orange cast the old ones did, and they're lighter in color. Our whole house looks like it got brighter!
very smooth from start to finish.
The only drawbacks to our experience were that we had to wait a week for a response to our initial request for an estimate (through Angie's List messaging), we didn't realize a small trailer would be left overnight in our driveway (not a problem, just a surprise), and our baseboards got a bit scuffed up in the refinishing process (we'll need to repaint them). Overall, we were very, very pleased with our experience and the work they did for us. The rooms really do look lovely and were worth every penny. We plan to upgrade the flooring in our house eventually and M-T will be tops on our list.
