 + -1 moreI called Tim and told him I had a bone to pick and explained what other experts on my living space and volume versus air flow variables had told me, and that my water system depended on constant low velocity heat in the seam between the wall and the floor slab to avoid freezing a pipe. I know because the remodel I am doing is just that - a freeze situation caused by last winter's slab level penetration of sub-zero temperatures and not enough air flow in the lowest level to prevent freezing. A modulating furnace would give better protection. He went into a rant about having an opinon on the modulationg furnace type be a 'Cadillac' of furnaces that people pay too much for just because, as he said and I quote now "it has a few more bells and whistles'. I am a professional quality engineer - and having experienced this many times, could only say the standard issue reply that when HE wants something and is given the wrong food, part, or other experience - then how does it feel? Time replied that he did not want to get between me and my associates - but the truth that he does not see is that he already did that. And now, is in denial.
Description of Work: I am an engineer that specified a modulating furnace after doing research and got this company to provide a free quote after a personal visit and inspection of my existing 2 stage Lenox. I wanted a Carrier modulating system. Tim, however, is an opinionated craftsperson of the breed that does not know one end of a tool from another, and insisted that the unit I want is not 'worth the extra money'. When called upon by my associates he did further damages to my purchase plans by saying the modulating furnace, that he represents for Carrier, is unreliable because it has one more circuit board than the 2 stage carrier which, by the way, takes a lot less time to install and has a much greater profit margin due to it's much more sale volume status. My situation is not a large spralling new house, but small and being retrofitted from an already noisey, high pressure 2 stage that is designed to heat a barn, starts up like the sound of a car engine and is not for living spaces that coexist with the same room area or floor space as the furnace. Yet, this self trained heating expert talked by funding source right out of the purchase - to the point of not only not being able to specify the correct type of furnace for my application, but not being able to get the project done at ALL!
