The guy came out measured the roof, we talked over the materials and the quality of the shingle. I was given a price I thought was a little high and told him I had another estimate, which we discussed; he said he could do it for less did some more calculations and gave me another price, he then looked over my Insurance estimate and said he could go even a little lower and save me some money. We agreed on that price which was just under $5,000. I thought I would get this in writing but instead was told he would mail the estimate or I could pick it up from the clerk at a gas station in Manitowoc they owned. I agreed to pick it up the next day because I had to sign it and leave him a copy. When I got it it was for $5,114.20 I called and asked why the change in price and he insisted this was the price we agreed on. I wasn't happy but because it was only off by $100-200 and I had a hard time finding people that could do it with all the resent hail damage here I went ahead with it.
They came to do the job the following wk. The owner of the company warned me ahead of time that he has a lot of Hispanics working for him and asked if I would have a problem with that; I said no as long as they do good work. Randy assured me they do excellent work and they clean up good too and their fast.Well I'll give him the fast part; they finished the whole job in less than 4hrs.
They did pick-up most of the paper and they used a leaf blower to clean the driveway but blew everything onto the grass; it would have been easier to sweep the driveway then try to rack nails and small bits of shingles off the grass like I ended up doing also found several nails still in my driveway so I wouldn't brag about their cleaning skills either. I went on the roof to take pictures for the Ins. co of the finished roof and I was very upset that the rows of shingles on the house were noticeably croak-id but the ridge was much worse it looked like a big wavy snake. Also the J-channel for my siding on top the roof was busted up pretty bad, which Randy said must have been like that and I know it wasn't because I was up there days before with the Ins. guy. (Garage is attached to house) I called Randy back and told him I was not happy and he should come here and have a look, he never made it but his crew showed up a few days later and re-did the ridge the right way this time. I guess they figured they would save 15 min and not use chalk lines because I had a small roof and you can't see it to good from the ground if it's straight or not. I found out from the Ins. guy that I was suppose to get new vents; I was told they weren't replaced to save me money, I said I wish I would of been asked, I would have wanted them replaced; it looks real crappy with rusted vents sticking out of a new roof. From a BIG well known company I expected a lot better quality.
