They were very thorough, but I was disappointed that they charged extra for clipping the toenails.

Our regular veterinarian was at a loss and suggested we see a specialist. We sought out UW and went in to the Dermatology
department. $532 later for full examination and test they conclude that it is something going on internally and we need to see the Internal Medicine department. We get her on 10 days later. And after asking me a series of questions they come up with a series of tests to possibly find out what is going on with her internally. These tests included x-raying her heart and lungs and doing a complete ultrasound. They suggested we leave her for the afternoon and pick her up at 6pm. At around 3pm Dr. Wong calls me to tell me the x-rays indication she has some fluid in her heart and stomach and they had extracted some fluid
and if I wanted them to examine the fluids or just move on to the ultra-sound. She wanted me to make a decision that moment and wouldn't let me call my husband so we could make the decision together. After she explained the she really didn't think examining the fluids would give us any conclusive results and we could do it later, I decided on moving ahead with the ultrasound. At 6pm we arrived to her up. The Dr. and a student finally get to us at 6:30pm. The Dr. explained for the next 15 minutes how none of the tests were conclusive and how we could do another series of tests to maybe find something. Suddenly another Dr. interrupts and informs us that our cat is in cardiac arrest. We asked if we can see her. They take us back into the room and she is on a table with a breathing tube and other wires surrounded by several students. The next thing I notice is in the large room (were we find out later she had been for quite awhile and I believe was the surgery room/recovery room) is crates and crates of at least 30 dogs barking and slobbering. Do you think she might have been stressed out? The Dr. had informed us earlier that she had a heart murmur and she was weak. No wonder she had a heart attack. We tried to say our goodbyes and Dr. ushered us out to sign a form to perform euthanasia, in those 5 minutes she died on her own without us there. Looking back we should have asked to see her right away. Why didn't the Dr. tell us she was that weak and suggest we we her. We thought we would be taking her back home. We knew she was old and her time was short, but to have to die surrounded by 30 dogs was very upsetting. For a facility that is supposed to be top notch I expected better treatment. We got the bill and they had charged us for the euthanasia that was never performed I had to call 3 times before it finally was removed from the bill. And because each department does not communicate with one another each department will do a full examination at $168 a pop. I will never go back there.

They are very friendly, and very good with the dog. She even had her own physical therapist which no dogs had. The professionalism and the up to date on everything with the medicine for the animals were very reassuring. I knew it was going to be expensive, and when we had problems we were able to call them and get answers. It was a good experience.

.The teaching hosptial themselves are really a great place. The students get alot of hands on and they are just so good with the animals. Its a really great place to take your pets. Plus they are all so good with the animals. The regular Vets that teach there are all so great. I will continue to go there.

We have been going there for 10 years. They are very thorough and knowledgeable. I like the fact that you see a Dr. and a student. You have two people going over your animal so it takes a little longer but two sets of eyes are better then one.

They were wonderful. They are a teaching veterinary clinic, so you interact with both students and the professors, and they really do a very thorough job of not only looking at your animals, but then giving you options like what to do as far as treatment goes. I did not have to wait for a long time as he had to go in for several different surgeries, and we were able to get him right in and right away, and saw the people that he needed to see. It was a very positive experience. The vet called me when I got home to make sure if everything was okay and that was really nice. I would continue to use them again in the future.

I see Dr. Lauren Trepanier. She teaches at the UW, but she's also internal medicine doctor at UW. She kept my dog alive for 4 years that had renal problems. It's not real easy to get in to her. It's not because of her, but to be able to get in to the practice under UW Vet, I think one has to have a doctor that refers them. They do go through rotations. Dr. Trepanier is a specialist and she treated my dog for kidney failure. There was no need for me to go back to her with a dog that didn't have any problems. I have a vet to go and get my dog taken care of if it has no major issues, but if I have a dog that has major issues I'll go to Dr. Trepanier. I spent a lot. It's super expensive to go there. That's the only problem and that's why people need to find out about insurance. The Vet School tries to do treatment for glaucoma, chemotherapy or renal problems. When one takes their dog there, they would have surgery on them. It's a teaching hospital. It is an excellent hospital. It does do what it is supposed to do, but it's expensive to keep ones dog alive if it's got kidney failure or whatever. They have cardiologists there for the dogs, they have dermatologists there and they have a lot of different types of doctors there and that's why they are expensive. That's why one needs to find a vet or animal insurance that is good. I'm trying to find one right now. The prices are set by the university and not by Dr. Trepanier. She has no control over that.
