In the 14 years at this house, the deck never looked this good before! The power washing removed stains that I thought were permanent, without fraying or damaging the wood. The staff were helpful, professional and conscientious -  final visit, they moved furniture back on deck and touched up a scratch from moving the heavy grill. I would recommend their work to anyone.

Overall we are very pleased w/ the work they did.  Good service started w/ Thrift actually answering the phone the first time I called.  Larry came out (traveled 1/2 hr south of Madison) right away to do the bid.  Met w/ us and walked around the house.  Listened to our concerns and gave options.  Bid submitted on time.  Cost reasonable.  Did not try and push any 'deals' or extra services.  We chose a new color for the house and they were very patient when we hemmed and hawed over colors.  The painters came the day they said they would and performed the work quickly and professionally.  Cleaned up after themselves and were respectful of our property.  When they were done my husband pointed out some spots that needed touch up.  The painter came out the next day at noon, fixed it and then met my husband later that day to make sure it was correct.  I would definitely use them again.

Thrift painting power washed my deck. They returned a short time later and professionally stained the deck.
The entire process was smooth. The initial meeting with John was pleasant. He came to the house and inspected the deck and showed us samples of stain colors.
A few days later the crew came and power washed the deck.
All the rain in June held up our process for a number of days.
Thrift painting was able to get my deck stained in a few days "window of no rain". It was done for my daughter's graduation party.
They made sure to keep track of this important event, and managed to get the job done when mother nature was less than cooperative.
I recommend them and would use them again.

Without exception, painters were very pleasant to work with, on time, SPEEDY but METICULOUS- willing to adjust schedule slightly to accommodate/avoid morning in-house traffic. Excellent prep and coverage of all areas. Small details/requests were addressed without need for reminders. We felt comfortable leaving the house, knowing the completed work and cleanup would be more than satisfactory upon our return. Items including large pieces of furniture were moved and put back in place before the end of the day. We never felt displaced- an amazing and praiseworthy feat! Price seemed in line with other local companies. Adhered to timeline and bid. Very happy experience.

We are very pleased with the results and with Thrift's professionalism.  Larry, the supervisor and estimator, was very prompt and responsive expecially when coordanating Thrift's work with others such as those doing cabinets, plumbing, and flooring.  Gary, who did all of the wallpapering and most of the painting, was very careful, responsive, and flexible.  We are very happy with the result.

I joined Angie's List shortly after I accepted the bid from Thrift, but was pleased and, ultimately, not surprised, to see their high rating when I did.
In general, the carpentry work and painting done on the exterior of my house was executed by two wildly-competent and experienced individuals who kept their work-space tidy between visits, kept in good communication throughout the process, and followed-through on even the most minute promises (thank you, Pat!).
Due to our unusual weather (beastly hot with occasional storms rolling through), the job was not easy to complete in successive days. Despite the heat, Pat and Steve were always cordial and I learned to be patient between their visits.
Larry (who gave me my original estimate) is friendly and sincere and stood behind his word when at once it seemed that the work that we agreed to couldn't be done without going over the original estimate.
Thrift clearly cares about meeting the needs of its customers.
The work on my house speaks for itself. Thank you, Thrift Painting!

Compared to the other 3 companies I called for a bid, Thrift was the most timely in response. They were accommodating and professional from start to finish. They even offered to include some other minor detail work that they did not charge extra for - and this attention to detail has made a great overall positive appearance in the exterior of the house.

They did a great job, everything looks really good. They are very prompt and courteous. The painter was very friendly and helpful. He touched up about 10-12 spots on the house that had some paint from the deck all on his own. The price was very fair.

The services were provided on schedule and according to our agreement.  Gary is tremendously professional and knowledgeable about all aspects of interior painting. When there were questions, he checked with me first, provided his insight and then proceeded.  The final results were beautiful and exactly what I hoped for.  I would be comfortable recommending Thrift Painting and Gary to anyone who needs to have interior work done.  I will definitely use this company in the future.

The painter arrived late and proceeded to start the job even though I was no longer home (had called their office and asked to re-schedule as I had to leave for work).  When I got home, I saw that the wrong color was already applied (was supposed to be a natural cedar color; was stained a very dark brown) to the front of the house.  After an extended argument with the painter and the office, I was told that they would complete the job with the wrong color and on time...no allowance on the price; just an admission that it was the wrong color!!  The job was NOT completed on time (painter continued to work through graduation party in front of guests!!) although there were no weather delays.
Response from Thrift Painting
"Dear Angie's List Members, We were very surprised to see a report about a project done over 15 YEARS AGO. we looked back at our records to find that we did indeed complete a project for this member. We don't recall the actual job as it was 15 years ago. The project total was $1,862 not $4,000. We don't require any money up front and don't expect to be paid until our customers are satisfied. We ask Angie's List members to read all of the posts about us to see what other Angie's List members say about our work."

Their representative went over the entire process regarding materials and methods to be used as well as the expected timeframe.
The estimate was quickly provided via email and regular mail. They accomodated extra work requested by us (one additional door trim to be painted). All work was done on time and at the expected price. They did a good job. And we would use them again in the future.

John Kitto, one of the founders of Thrift Painting, did the estimate, and another person did the actual wall prep and painting. Very happy with the quality of the job. I urged a primer coat because we were going from a darker (much darker) color to a lighter color. John demured and felt that two coats of paint would do the job. Lo and behold, the paint did not cover, and there was considerable bleed through of the old paint. Granted, I supplied the paint. It was not cheap paint. It was Pittsburgh Paint, a nationally recognized brand. The label says "covers in one coat." Do not ever believe this. This is one of the great lies, along with "the check is in the mail." But I digress. It's debatable whether Thrift's paint would have covered or not; we'll never know. But the point is, I was dissatisfied with the job, and John sent the painter back to apply a THIRD COAT at no extra charge (I just had to supply another gallon of the paint). The third coat was the charm. The job is beautiful, and kudos to John and Thrift Painting for "making it right."

Very well. Communication was excellent throughout the process from setting up the initial consultation to finishing up the job. They also kept us well informed of possible schedule delays due to weather. John gave us much appreciated help in picking out appropriate colors, and the work itself went very well--right on schedule.

Job went very well. John Kitto was on hand to start job; and  he went the extra mile to insure a good immediate result. Only time will tell if the problem was truly resolved.

John, who had given the estimate, came on the day scheduled with Dan and he showed Dan where & what to do.  John also came to survey the work after its completion.  Both men have been here before-- Dan painted our living and dining room a few years ago.  Excellent, careful work!

I called, and we met with John to get an estimate. He was professional and his estimate was very close to what we ended up paying -- one room needed a second coat, which wasn't originally planned on, but they asked whether we wanted it done before doing it. I called back 3 days later (I think), and left a message saying that we would like to have them do the job, but I wasn't sure if it could be done before we moved in or not. We had 3 other projects going on at the same time, and were trying to get all of it done before moving; so, there were only about 2 or 3 days that the painting could have been done on. John told me he could pull some guys off of another job, due to the weather, and that they could do it the next day (one of those free days). It couldn't have been better, since new carpeting was going to be put in the day after that. He came early the next morning to get things organized, and had at least 5 guys there to do the painting (could have been 6 or 7, I didn't actually count them while they were there). I gave John the list of paint colors we wanted; he made a couple of calls and sent guys out to get them. I think I left at that point. I came back a couple of times to check on things (since I was only about 3 miles away). The first time is when they asked about the one room needing a second coat; I agreed, and so they sent someone to get another container of that color. The second time I came back, they were close to done, so I just stuck around until they were all done. As with any group of people, some guys were friendlier than others, but none of them were rude, and they didn't seem to mind me asking a few questions. They also offered some extra advice (helpful hints, you might say). They removed the wall plates for the light switches before painting, and put them back on when done. And, I didn't notice any paint on anything that shouldn't have gotten it. (If I look really close, I can see a tiny bit on the bottom of this one strip of wallpaper that they had to paint around, but I don't think I could have done any better.) I was impressed with the speed of both getting the work scheduled and completed, and also with the quality of the painting.
