Great job! They gave me a quote for the work and advised me on the tree that would need to be removed, then when I emailed them that my yard was ready, they had me on the schedule and the work completed within two and a half weeks. They put the gates exactly where I requested them, and it looks to be a very secure, solid fence

We have not had any problems. They did a good job. I will recommend them and use them, again.

Didn't put it parallel to house and insisted that it was done in my best interest. Always just came by to 'fix' or look at something, didn't make appointment to come when I was there. Pretty annoying.

Everything went really well. They were quick to come out and make the proposal, and came back to do the install the next week. There was an issue where they needed to make a repair to a handle on one of the fence doors, and they came right back out to correct it.

Struck & Irwin Fence was professional right from the get go and explained in detail the fence type, process, timeline, and answered all of my questions. Jason was extremely responsive and professional beyond my expectations and even sketched the fence using Google Earth for me to submit to our HOA. The fence is a high quality beautiful cedar wood fence 5 feet high in our backyard with 2 gates with high quality functional handles. I would highly recommend Struck & Irwin Fence and would definitely use them again without hesitation. Thank you Jason!

Before building my fence, I did a lot of research and decided to go with a 6 foot cedar picket privacy fence. I grew up with a 4 foot white picket fence with 4x4 posts, and the posts were always rotting and needing to be replaced. So I knew that I wanted to use steel posts. I really liked the Master Halco Postmaster fence posts, and Struck and Irwin was the best place to get them. Menards and Home Depot can special order them, but when you factor in the cost of the concrete, the cost of renting the auger to drill the holes, and most of all - the time - we added it up and it ended up being only $400 more expensive to have Struck and Irwin install the posts. Plus if you have a company install something permanently, you don't have to pay sales tax, as it is considered and quot;realand quot; property. So they charged $47.50 per Postmaster Post and then $40 each for installing.
So they showed up around 8 am, and I talked with the two guys, who answered all my questions. They started pneumatically driving in the posts (it's loud!), and it took them about 2 hours to do the 27 posts (about 200 linear feet). Then they used post hole diggers to dig the gate posts and that took about an hour for them to dig and set those in concrete.
Since I am going to be building the fence myself, they were giving me all sorts of great tips and explanations. I couldn't believe that it only took them 3 hours to do all the work.
Side note: it was going to cost $5,786 if I wanted them to install the entire fence, and not just the posts. But the lumber only cost me about $1200, so I figured I could save almost 2000 buy doing it myself. However, if I didn't want to or couldn't do it myself, I do think that price of 5,786 is reasonable.

The fence looks great! Sturdy and attractive. They did exactly what they said they were going to and took care of calling the diggers' hotline and making sure all requirements were fulfilled.

Before beginning the work, they advised us to talk to our neighbor about a retaining wall issue that affected the project. This was thoughtful, honest advice that put our interests above the company's because this issue delayed the project for a couple months. Before beginning the work, they checked several times to make sure they did the work correctly. They gave us four weeks notice and arrived right on time and completed the work as scheduled. While the work was being done, the installers consulted with us to ensure that the work was done correctly.

Working with Struck and Irwin was wonderful! I would highly recommend this company to anyone in the Dane County area who needs a fence. Their work is beautiful -- you will see many Struck and Irwin fences around Madison. They don't try to give you a and quot;song and danceand quot; about needing all kinds of extra embellishments. But, they have them if you want them. They send real and quot;fence guysand quot; out to do the estimate, not some goofy decorator who doesn't know anything about fences or how people use their yards. Everyone at Struck and Irwin, from the people in the office, to the estimators, to the installers, are WONDERFUL!! They're all very friendly and helpful, answering any question we had with a smile and a straightforward answer! I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND these folks if you need fencing. It was a pleasure to work with Struck and Irwin. We have a beautiful fence that will last, and for a fair and honest price.

Salesperson talked us into spending more for a 'scalloping' design and caps on the posts along the front stretch only. Installation was sloppy: they cut our posts off, making it impossible to to use the caps; the scalloping was irregular to the point of noticing it all the way from the street; and they scalloped the entire run which cut off ends of the boards that I had applied wood treatment, primer and paint to ahead of time and where we wanted the 6' of privacy.

When I called the salesperson he didn't believe me at first, I had to repeatedly share my concerns; then he tried to suggest that we wanted exactly what they did, which made no sense when looking at the work order. He finally agreed to come out and look at it but wasn't happy about it. When he arrived he admitted to me that the scalloping was poorly executed and told me they would re-cut that.

They did fix the scalloping but it lowered the fence height several inches overall. Not great for privacy which is the reason for the fence.

When we went to paint the fence more sloppy work was uncovered: nails that where applied too close to the center of the boards (causing the boards to start cupping within several days) and mails completely missing structural lumber.

WHen I called him back he immediately took the offensive, telling me that I was just trying to get out of paying them. I had to repeatedly re-assure him that I needed a base level of quality to discuss payment. Finally he reluctantly agreed to send out someone to fix the nailing errors.

NExt was negotiating a new price given all the issues (the sawn off posts, sloppy scalloping that reduced the height and the scalloping going all the way around the perimeter rather than just the front section) which was again a difficult process. At times the supervisor raised his voice and basically threatened to stop the negotiation process which I assume meant he would go to small claims. In WI business names can't be searched on our court records but people's names can, so they have a lot of leverage in people not wanting their reputations soured.

We finally agreed to a reduced price that I had thrown out but frankly in retrospect we just aren't happy with the result. The process was a real mess, and caused a lot of stress for my wife and I.

Prompt and complete except fence parts were delayed "from the manufacturer". This delayed our project by about four weeks. I would have liked to know upfront as there were other contractors involved. Otherwise the price, service and knowledge were excellent.

Excellent. The sales rep (Bill) was very knowledgeable. He volunteered pitfalls to watch out for based on his experience and our goals, he was quick to return phone calls, and he was very patient with questions and changes in direction of the project. He was precise in communicating the prices of different options. Final price matched the estimate very well. Construction team was professional, were very accommodating with a minor change I requested during the first day of construction, great with the kids, and conscious of my time (I was planning to stay home from work to supervise, and when the weather was not cooperating, they called me the day before to inform me that they were not going to come out the following day). Also, the heavy equipment stayed out in the street, and they carried everything into the backyard. It was done quickly -- we ordered around 150 - 160' of fence, and the job was completed over a space of two days. Potential improvements: (1) Consider using thicker boards for the fence itself -- this would seemingly have to cost more, but my initial reaction after having the fence for a few weeks is that it feels a little bit on the fragile side, which would not be a concern except for the kids possibly bumping / crashing into it. However, sales rep saw the kids (and was also great with them), so my guess is that he took that into account. (2) Receive a follow-up call from the sales rep -- Given the great experience we had up to that point, I was a bit surprised that he didn't call us afterwards to check in. All that said, I would not hesitate to use them again in the future.

I was very pleased with their services and with the work they did. The workers were excellent and they cleaned up after themselves. The price was a little higher then quoted, but we were okay with it because the job still looked great.
