Dr. Sondel's office visit fee is $59.00. The remainder of my bill was for a year's supply of Heartgard Plus and a six-month supply Frontline Plus for a large dog. That's $157.67 (the online price match.) However, Dr. Sondel alerted me to the fact that their manufacturer, Merial, was offering a $50 rebate to purchasers of this minimum quantity so the actual cost was only $107.67!
Dr Sondel recently opened his own clinic (a great space that's even LEED certified). Even though it's not as conveniently located as the clinic where he used to work, we decided to continue seeing Dr. Sondel because of his rapport both with our cat and with us. He listens to our concerns, and is willing to present a range of possible solutions; I feel he generally steers us toward less invasive and less costly options as a first step so as to minimize both the stress on our cat and our wallet. For example, he could have suggested we needed to xray the cat's leg but he specifically said after examining Tom that he was confident an xray would just confirm his diagnosis and there was not therefore a good reason to put Tom through that process. The glucosamine shots have been tremendously helpful for our cat, and he's actually started running around again a bit, and is able to leap much more consistently and safely than he was last fall. Dr. Sondel's Thursday evening hours are helpful, since we don't have to take off of work to do these shots every couple of months. We would highly recommend him. Given the number of dog owners we see in the waiting room, I think he must be as great with dogs as he is with cats.
