In the middle of that process, she coincidentally developed hypercalcemia and had surgery to remove a parathyroid tumor. The follow up care from the staff was outstanding and they got her through that crisis while still managing the original IBD. So we had a complicated health situation and I cannot say enough good things about the way Dr Julia Bates and Dr. John Silbernagel led us through this. In particular, Dr Bates managed, even micro-managed, our dog's medications so that she has completely recovered from the benign tumor and hypercalcemia, and directed a medication taper that has finally gotten our dog off prednisone for her IBD. For the first time in more than a year, our dog is back to her old self.
The cost of service above clearly did not cover all of what I describe. This kind of speciality treatment is expensive - but I did find that some of the follow up visits and lab tests were less than those at my own vet so I never felt gouged. Also, many times my concerns were dealt with via phone and I felt they tried to avoid unnecessary visits. The doctors were responsive when I needed to talk on the phone, explained everything very thoroughly, and I always felt they had an overall plan. They kept my regular vet in the loop, also.
Sometimes their office does get backed up - they are an emergency clinic also - so wait times could be longer than I would normally expect from a vet, but that other than that, the care and attention I received were outstanding. I am very grateful we had this kind of resource available. And the result is priceless!
