I've been in IT since 1992, when images, audio, and video first came out on the Internet. My forté was website development, e-commerce, and marketing. When my computer wouldn't boot, I have to depend upon a computer technician to diagnose and fix/replace the hardware to get it running. I've had a fantastic computer repair experience with Madison Computer Works [*** Link removed ***] They came to my residence and picked up the computer. I was kept informed. The computer tech was friendly and expressed his interest to fix the problem as quickly as possible for the lowest cost. I highly recommend Madison Computer Works to anybody or organization looking for computer services they can count on. For an honest referral, call me at 1-800-736-1036, Dr. Neil Gale

Madison Computer Works found why my hard drive kept filling up. The issue ended up being a problem caused by Windows 10 updates which wrote files constantly to my drive and as soon as they were cleaned up they would be replaced. MCW deleted the files, reinstalled Windows 10 and performed all of the updates, ensuring that they were functioning correctly. Cleaned up some junk along the way. The problem is gone. Now my computer has over 500 gb available and its running and booting much faster than it was. It's performing like new.

The tech. ran the laptop for a whole day, but could not duplicate the issue. He removed some malware as part of the diagnosis/repair. He was unsure, but stated that the malware could be causing the issue. It has been several weeks and my laptop is working fine.

When I brought the computer in they spent time with me to define the specific problems I was encountering. They clearly explained what they would do, how much it would cost and told me that if additional costs to repair came up they would call me before proceeding. They were honest about the length of time it would take for this service to be completed. They outlined other alternatives for me if the length of repair time was not to my liking.
They tested and repaired the computer . Given the age of the computer they provided an honest opinion on the health of the machine and gave me suggestions on how to protect valuable data on the machine if it were to fail in the future (given the age of the computer it is nearing the end of the road).
They also sell new computers but there was no pressure on me to replace my computer. I did have some questions about new computers and they were very helpful to me.

We originally went to Madison Computer Works to have our laptop repaired. They determined that the problem with our laptop meant taking it apart and replacing parts that, with labor, would push the cost of fixing it past the value of the laptop, since our laptop was over 7 years old. We found they also sell computers and decided to see if we could purchase another laptop at a reasonable price. After working with the sales women and her gathering information about how and what we use a computer for, she suggested we purchase a desktop computer instead of a laptop. She said we'd get more bang for our buck and a desktop could be easily upgraded or modified, as opposed to a laptop. She then walked us through the options available and helped us and quot;buildand quot; the computer we needed. It was great getting a computer that was designed for our uses instead of going to a box store and getting a pre-loaded, pre-designed computer, where we'd be paying for hardware and software we didn't need. Everyone there was very helpful and we're very happy with our new computer. My only complaint is, we needed the computer by a certain date, since my son had to complete a project that was on the hard drive of our laptop. They had to order the components of the computer we purchased, but the sales women assured us we would have the finished product by the date we requested. It was not completed when we requested it and the person we dealt with who was handling the and quot;buildand quot; of our computer wasn't happy we kept calling to find out when the computer would be ready for pick-up. He explained to us it always takes 7 to 10 days to receive and build the computer and transfer information from our previous hard drive to the new hard drive. I would have thought the sales women would have known this and informed us at the time of the sale.
Response from MADISON COMPUTER WORKS INC
"The computer was purchased at 1:20pm Saturday the 23rd of March and it was done on Tuesday the 27th right before closing. The customer was called on the 28th that it was ready and picked it up on the 29th a little after noon. It was picked up less than 5 business days after it was purchased. We appreciate the nice comments in this review but are perplexed by the time line reported in it and apologize for any misunderstanding. New computers generally are done within two to ten days depending on configuration and availability of products."

They were able to do the work without much detail from me and worked quickly.

I had bought both my laptops from them and any time I have had problems with my computers they have been taking care of them. The reason why I like them is because they don’t try to sell extra belt and whistle. I could not get on to the Internet or something like that. So I brought my computer in and they set that up. They did not charge me, as it was a courtesy thing. They listened to my concern and fixed my problem. They were able to take my computer illiterate words and know what it means for the computer. I have gone there for the past eight years and I bought two laptops from them. I have had no problems with them. I walked into their stall and within moments they were there to assist me. They are people I would go back anytime.

Not very well. I was told I had to get "sandboxie" installed to prevent this from happening in the future, and I felt like I didn't have a choice. Same with their advised anti-virus software. After all that and paying a big price, it was somewhat better but still locked up every 5-60 minutes. Called about 2 weeks later to complain of this and was told they had no record of my transaction and they would call me back when they found it as they were way behind in filing paperwork. After 3 more weeks and no phone call I called again. This time I spoke to the manager and he seemed more interested in knowing who it was I spoke to 3 weeks prior to - . so he could set that guy straight - than addressing the PC problem. After getting him back on track, they took it again and free of charge they looked at it again but still couldn't fix the problem. I have been in the shop twice since and each time I have noticed this air of "we know more than you and we're going to make sure you know that". The one-way mirror to the shop is also a little weird - why can't the customers see what they're doing? What are they hiding? It just seems to be run unprofessionally and I would not patronize them again.

My PC stopped turning on. I paid $85 to this store to diagnose the problem as a bad motherboard. When I asked what my options were I was told that the PC was beyond repair and the only way they would help me retrieve the data on the hard drive was if I bought a new computer from them and then paid a data migration fee. With very little research on the internet I was able to find 2 alternative options that were cheaper than the $1000 new computer. I found a replacement motherboard and simple instructions to replace it myself. I also found a cable available at Best Buy that turns my old internal hard drive into an external hard drive so I can retrieve the data on to any other computer very easily. It seems obvious that any computer tech worth anything would have known about these two options that would have solved my problem for $200 instead of $1000.

It went very well. They were very busy and quoted a six day turnaround time, but for a priority fee of $100 I got my laptop back the next afternoon. They recommended that I change the Internet browser from Explorer to Firefox with no-script, and anti-virus software from McAfee (which was up to date but in multiple scans did not "see" the infections). My laptop now runs well and faster than before it was infected. They installed Mozilla Firefox (no script) and the total cost also included $50 for one year of the new anti-virus software. The extra $150 raised the cost to $293 - to me money well spent.

The staff is very professional and knowledgeable. They spelled out all our options so I understood them. (They even have a table by the door on the outside, so I don't have to worry about dropping my computer getting the door open.) When our daughter went overseas for a semester of college, they knew about the proper adapters, and how best to protect the laptop from theft (by using a protective case that fit inside her backpack).

They are very knowledgeable about all things computer, and were very helpful in determining the features that we wanted in our new computer.
