I didn't get the presumed faulty parts back, nor did the mechanic go over the bill with me. I think I was overcharged and bought Christmas presents for the garage. Maybe my experience is atypical, but I won't be going back.
Stopped in to make appointment, and talked to Randy about any problems with car. Dropped car off and went to Starbuck's (right next door) to wait. Randy called me when ready. When I picked car up, Randy talked to me about my car.
For more major repairs, I stop or call to make appointment. Randy talks to me about the problem and work to be done, and gives me keys to free loaner car. Later in day I get a call to come pick up the car at my convenience. I happily pay because I know car will be actually fixed! (I have had too many experiences with other service stations to take that for granted)
Since I was going to Chicago, I had the recommended auto service performed at a Toyota dealership where I had been taking my SUV. After I picked up my SUV, I noticed a and quot;road noiseand quot;. I took my SUV to Genin's on 6/21/2011 and asked if they could identify what was causing the noise (I thought it was a result of the work done at Toyota's service dept) and assess if it would be safe to drive my SUV back to Chicago. Randy test drove my SUV and then assessed where the noise was coming from. He isolated the noise to the rear differential. He noticed that the flange and seal plate appeared to be warped or the pinion bearing may be damaged. On June 23 rd, I took my car back to the Chicago Toyota Service dept. They examined by SUV and said the differential needed to be replaced and they wanted to charge me $3,300. They suggested that I had al leak in my rear differential that caused the damage and it needed to be replaced. They argued that I was wrong to suggest that the problem was caused by a mistake by their mechanics. After many telephone calls, they indicated they could do the repair with a and quot;usedand quot; one for about $1650. I indicated that if there was a leak it was present before they did their work and that the noise developed after they worked on my vehicle. I insisted that my SUV was fine until it was worked on my their mechanics. I called Randy, top mechanic at Genins, and asked if he would be willing to speak to the Toyota Service Director and he said he would. Randy told the Toyota Service Director that there was adequate fluid in my differentials when he inspected my SUV just prior to my trip back to Chicago and told them what he assessed the problem to be.
It took daily, multiple telephone calls and my insistence that the problem did not arise until after my SUV was worked on at the Toyota repair shop. While I am sure my perseverance and willingness to keep negotiating with the Toyota Service Director was very important, I believe Randy's willingness to back me up with his verbal and written assessment helped greatly. I also have to give credit to the Toyota Service Director for showing some flexibility in deciding that although it could not be proven that the problem stemmed from a mistake by their mechanics--they would correct the problem without any additional cost to me. It took from June 23 - June 29th to get this situation resolved.
I would highly recommend Genin's Auto Service for their quality work and excellent mechanics.
"Hi, Would just like to say "Thank you" to the member for taking the time and posting her feedback on our service. We do a complete vehicle inspection with all repairs and communicate the condition of the vehicle to each customer. I would be happy to meet with the member, her mechanic friend and her vehicle to discuss further her comments. Thank you, Rick T. Genin 608-238-1088"
