"We do have fixed price proposals, and have for over 20 years. Our proposals are generally considered to be easy to understand and thorough. We rarely have additional costs and when we do, customers are always discussed up front. When we remove wallpaper we let our customers know that sometimes the wallpaper we are removing was glued down wrong and originally installed improperly, In that case, the drywall needs additional patching since it rips up the drywall removing the glue. This is the case in about one out of five jobs. That additional work and risk is discussed upfront. We also let customers know during the job if it will need patching. The only other alternative is to assume that every wallpaper job was installed wrong, and then add in several hours to the four out five jobs that don't require the patch work. That just doesn't make sense. It's unfortunate that patching is an extra cost, but clearly it is beyond our control or any other painting companies."
