Tech was on time, professional and found that 1.5 pounds of freon added last fall was completely gone. Compressor was also shot. She asked if I wanted her to continue to find out where the leak was and I said no, the AC was 14 years old and I will buy a new one. The cost of the service call will be applied to a new AC from them. She gave me two AA batteries that needed to be replaced for my thermostat. Nice. I would use them again for service, and they will be installing a new AC for me.

They're not cheap, I haven't shopped around. I've used them for 30 years. I never had any problem with them, but I don't know how they compare price wise. I never had any issue. They do a very good job.

They installed a new furnace and then they have been servicing it for about $330 a year. I've had them out every fall for the past two years. It's high price. There are no issues with quality. I might have to do a little more comparison shopping next fall when I have it serviced again. I think there has got to be a better price out there.

I normally just call them. It is a major company. They are in Madison. I pay for the tune up when they come out. They were great and I was very happy with them. I did not even have a gas furnace in the house. It was radiant electric heat so they installed all the ductwork. There was no air conditioning prior to that so they installed the air conditioning. They installed the gas furnace. They did the whole thing back in the day, 18 or 19 years ago.  It is still running just fine so I am very happy with the quality.

Haven't used the furnace so no comments on unit. However air conditioner is superb. Takes no time to keep cool, total running time was cut from hours for old unit to short minutes for new one. They left area for both units very clean. Can't say enough about general heating for their promptness, expert knowledge, politeness, and trust.

A+

The service people were on time and friendly. They installed everything exactly according to specifications and one technician even stayed late on a Friday to ensure that the unit was working properly going into the weekend. They also took care of all of the necessary paperwork regarding refunds and tax credits for me, which saved me an additional $3000.00.

Anytime I had a question, they answered promptly and gave me a price that they guaranteed not to surpass before they even started the project. I would HIGHLY recommend General Heating to anyone in their service area!

On Sunday morning my furnace stopped working - no heat.  I called General Heating, used the prompts and got to a live person quickly who took down my information and said a tech would call me to discuss the problem.  Within 2 minutes the tech called me.  He was very professional and walked me through a series of questions to better understand the situation.  He was very knowledgeable and helpful, and had me try a few things to see if it would solve the problem, and lo and behold, it did!  He then gave me a few options going forward, including doing nothing more, waiting for a longer period to see if the fix worked, or coming out today to replace the part in question.  No pressure, just 100% help and commitment to make sure I was taken care of well.  It was fantastic, keep up the great work!!

My air conditioner died.  It's large (5-ton) and I was in the process of selling my house (and had a showing scheduled within a few days of the problem).  I called General.  While they originally hoped to be able to repair it, that turned out to not be possible (it was 20 years old).  General's estimator, Allen, came out the next day (even though he was leaving on vacation the next day and could have blown me off).  He put together a quote and got it to me before he left town.  I accepted the quote and the work was done within 3 days (General had to track down a unit - there was an additional complication because my air conditioner fed into an large air handler).  Even though I had 3 guys at the house for at least 6 hours, and had a follow up visit to finish a part of the job that I didn't know was undone (apparently the installers didn't have a cover for an outside connection and needed to pick up one from the shop - since they worked until after 6:00 p.m, they couldn't get the cover until the next day), the quote was honored.
I would use General again without hesitation.

The first two service technicians arrived about fifteen minutes before the scheduled appointment time (8:00 A.M.) and we invited them to start right away. A third technician was present temporarily to help them. Later two other technicians joined the first two for the duration of the process. The first two did the hardest part, which was the physical removal of the very heavy old boiler and figuring out how to adapt the new one to fit in the space available. Getting the old boiler safely up the basement stairs and into the service truck took three people and an incredible, heavy duty crawler / cradle- carrier  machine that went up a few stairs at a time. At the truck, though, it was just three men, and they successfully loaded it into its back without damaging either our driveway or their truck. I was amazed. One of the technicians that came on the first shift has twenty years experience with this company (obviously it values its older workers) so figuring out the Rube Goldberg way to adapt the new boiler came naturally to him and his partner. The last two dealt primarily with electronics (a wireless thermostat and its controls) as well as final clean up. The whole job was complete by 3:35 P.M, when the last service person finished providing us with instructions about the high tech thermostat and then left. The work areas were cleaner than they found them and nothing was disturbed anywhere in the basement. You would have thought otherwise considering the amount of noise that they had to make. It was a coldish day (May 1 in Madison, WI) , but it never got particularly uncomfortable anywhere in the house; this was made possible because the company's service personnel were very efficient and really knew how to do their jobs. That had already been our experience with them for many years while the old boiler continued doing its job. Thanks to their yearly ministrations, it was still fully functional at the time of its removal, but it had become terribly noisy during below zero days. We figured it was not a good idea to keep it on another year. It was the continued quality of the service received and the fact that we got to know their boiler specialists that we decided to purchase a brand new replacement from  General Heating and Air Conditioning Inc. Besides, their price was right!

It was during the first polar vortex of the winter of 2013/2014 that my furnace stopped working.  I called General Heating and Air Conditioning in the early afternoon and they had someone out to my house later that same afternoon.  I knew my furnace was past its expected life span.  It was determined that the inducer motor was bad and I decided to have it replaced.  However, in the course of the repair, it was determined that there were other things wrong and the furnace needed to be replaced.  The serviceman left me with a temporary fix with the new inducer motor so we would have heat for the night.  A crew was out early the next morning and my new furnace was up and running shortly after noon.  The cost of service was the total for the work that was done to attempt to repair the old furnace (several hours including a trip to get the required part) and the new furnace.

The two service men showed up at the time promised and completed the work quickly and professionally, including cleaning up after themselves and removing all the old furnace materials. We've now nearly finished with one of  Madison's coldest and longest winters and both their work and the new equipment have proven worth our investment. We've used General Heating on several occasions in the past have have been very pleased.

The technician originally told me they would have to order the part and gave me a 2 day turn around.  He called me when I was only a block away and said that another manufacturer made a part that could be used.  The work was all done on the same day.  The technician was very nice and courteous and the service was responded to quickly from Angie's List "message" mailbox.
