My Expedition was experiencing acceleration lag and some grinding sounds. I thought the transmission was going. I took it to Middleton Ford three times worried about the transmission and they kept diagnosing different ailments. Trip 1) A bad gasket $500+, Trip 2) Bad wheel bearing and need for computer update another 600+, Trip 3) Oh, it is your transmission and your starter motor is fried (even though I drove it in). Middleton wanted $6,300.00 for just the transmission and starter plus additional dollars for some unknown problem with the cooling system. They would put in a rebuilt transmission warranted for 12 months or 12,000 miles.
These numbers were aggravating and so I went to Angie's List to find an alternative. East Side Transmission Service on Stoughton Road was at the top of the list. I arranged a visit. They did the transmission for 3,000 and gave me a 3 year warranted on parts and labor. They were fast and pleasant. Only three days in the shop after I had to get it towed by AAA from Middleton Ford. They would have been faster but it took 1.5 days to get the transmission shipped to their garage.I also did have to have a new radiator put in for $1,300.00. I would not hesitate to use them again. Half the cost of a car dealer's shop and a much better warranty. They saved the car. Talk to Randy...

It went okay. They fixed it and I was satisfied but there was noise again so went back in. They thought it was the same thing but luckily it was not...it was the rear differential. Randy got the part from the rear differential and showed it to me so I could understand what was wrong. I was happy with the result; it was less from the rear differential than the front differential. But the front differential from what I read is simple and the back one is not. Their price is high but I know dealerships are much higher.

Had a transmission repaired on my GM vehicle. The repair last for about 3000 miles and the trans went out. The second repair was never correct and the new drive axels are not balanced correctly. The second repair was warranty but still bad work and when I brought it back the owner was very short with me and said there is nothing wrong. So I won't go there again

Did a great job - the repair was done as quickly as possible. They also kept us informed throughout process of the repairs needed, the time and cost involved. Very friendly, great customer service and would definitely recommend this shop for auto repairs.

I went here for a second opinion on a repair that another shop suggested. Eastside inspected and test drove, several times, just looking and trying to find a problem. They could not. It's been over 6 months, there are still no issues with the transmission.
Good, honest service.

Our 10 year-old Honda Odyssey's transmission died and we were quoted over $4500 to repair it by the Honda dealer. That was such a big price tag for an old car especially, so we called around to try to find a better deal. One other place could do it for $4000, but Eastside Transmission was willing to do it for about $3500. Whew! Still a big price tag, but a huge savings from the other places. Then they worked rapidly on the car, fixed it within 1-2 days, and we've had no more transmission problems yet, a year later. We're grateful to Eastside Transmission.

I went to Eastside Transmission after reading a number of positive reviews on Angie?s List and elsewhere.
The work comes with a 2 year / 24,000 mile warranty. This is a positive.
The work completed was a rebuild of a number of transmission components. So far, that work appears to be solid.
From an initial inspection, I was quoted a cost in the range of $1,200-2,500 depending upon the level of work they discovered when they opened up the transmission. The final cost came in over $3,000.
I dropped the vehicle off with a letter on Monday night under the premise this could be completed by Friday. They did not look at the vehicle until Wednesday. Following through on Friday, they told me they would need until Monday. On Monday, the vehicle was put back together when they discovered a leak and needed to pull the part back off and hold the vehicle until Tuesday.
On Tuesday, I picked up the vehicle. When I started the vehicle, a related repair I asked to have fixed was not completed.
The center pipe on the exhaust had a leak. I asked about this over the phone and received oral confirmation they could repair it. I included the request in the letter when I dropped off the car. The service order referenced the work. But, it was not completed. As opposed to having to have them finalize the work and have to rent a car for another day, I will go somewhere else.

August 16, my transmission failed while following friends to a restaurant in Madison. I had first and second gears, but then the transmission shifted into neutral. We limped back to our hotel where I found I also didn't have reverse. I called AAA and set up a tow to the nearest Ford dealer first thing the next morning. In the meantime, I Googled the problem and found that it was most likely a broken reverse sun gear. I checked with my regular mechanic in the morning to confirm that replacing the transmission with a remanufactured Ford transmission was the best solution. Ford provides a three year, 100,000 mile warranty on their remanufactured transmissions. Our mechanic also pointed out that, unlike rebuilt, a remanufactured transmission would include all the manufacturer's updates and engineering changes.AAA towed the truck to Metro Ford first thing on Friday. We were hoping for a quick turnaround until we found that Metro's transmission specialists were tied up at least until the following Thursday. So, we took the hotel shuttle to the airport, rented a car for a week, and drove back to Sister Bay, Wisconsin. I contacted Metro Ford's sales people via their web site to determine what my truck was worth as a trade-in on a new pickup. I also contacted the Florida dealer where I have my truck serviced, the dealer where we bought it, and the nearest Ford dealer to our home in Sister Bay. That's when things started going to h*** in a handbasket. Repeated emails and calls to Metro went unanswered. I called and emailed the new car sales manager and the general manager. The responses were non-existant or lame. Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday passed without an answer to my requests. We even contacted Ford corporate (who offered their condolences but were of absolutely no help. They told us that their dealers were independent businesses over which they had no control and that we should call their service manager (!) to discuss our concerns. By noon Tuesday we were facing the real prospect of having to extend our car rental for several more days and still having no truck--new or used. That's when I called Angie's List about purchasing a subscription. I was concerned because we were only visiting Madison and certainly didn't need it as our designated Angie's List metro area. The person I spoke with offered to do a complimentary search on transmission shops in Madison with a subscription for our home in Orlando, FL. Voila! In moments, Angie's List emailed the search and Eastside Transmission came out on top. I phoned them, told them our sad story, and Darrin, the shop manager told me he could put their own rebuilt transmission in right away. When I said I wanted to compare apples to apples, Darrin offered to get a price on a Ford remanufactured transmission. He called back a few minutes later, gave me a price $500 less than Metro's estimate, and said he could have the truck towed from Metro to Eastside. It took a couple days to get the transmission from Ford parts but Darrin kept me informed of the order status and when the truck would be ready. And the woman at the front desk who handles the phones and paperwork couldn't have been nicer or more caring of our situation. For instance, she called to tell us when the truck had been towed from Metro. Darrin also offered to have us pick up the truck on the weekend even though the shop is normally closed Saturday and Sunday. The transmission arrived on Friday and was installed--just as promised--before close of business on Friday. We picked it up Monday morning and it works just like new. We're more than totally satisfied with Eastside because we can contrast Eastside's great service with Metro Ford's total lack of service and customer assistance.

It went quite well for a transmission issue.

We were referred to Eastside Transmission through an auto repair shop found on Angie's List. Our transmission was taking a long time to shift and the backend of the vehicle was making loud noises. Eastside said to bring it right in and Darrin test drove the vehicle and tested the transmission. The transmission didn't need any work at this time, but the backend definitely had serious issues. Once Darrin tore into the backend, he found that, in addition to needing new bearings, we needed both axle shafts replaced. It took a couple days to get the parts due to backorder, but once the parts came in, he had the repair work done pronto. The noise is gone and I am extremely happy with the work that was done by the crew at Eastside Transmission.
