Please let Champion know if you have any needs in the future regarding your home and our products. Thank you again and have a Magical Day! Chris Wagner Division Manager Champion of Madison"
They did the work in the timeframe they specified, did a great clean up job, and took away the old windows. Couldn't have gone better. We needed them to come back for one small issue. One of the basement windows included a flange for venting the dryer. We needed their help making the vent/pipe connection fit, which the did without question. Again, they came, they fixed and left the place cleaned up.
I think their price is comparable with other people.
Their prices were competitive with other vinyl replacement window companies, but their windows had a couple features we liked better than some of their competitors; namely the release latches that allow you to flip the window down (so you can clean the outside of the window) and the Low E glass. Some of the other companies we looked at had windows that you just pulled down/open to clean and that was hard to do for my wife. So, she liked the ability to just click latches over and flip the window down to clean.
After going back and forth with the Champion Windows manager several times over price, we were able to come to an agreement on a price, and signed the contract. Our windows needed to be special ordered, so it took about 5 weeks to get our windows. Our windows arrived inside the estimated time of arrival. Once the windows arrived, they called us and we set up a day/time for installation. The installation was estimated to take 1 day.
The day of installation, the installer showed up 15-20 minutes early. He came to the door, introduced himself, and asked to come in to look at the windows that needed to be removed, and asked to verify which windows where to be installed where. The install professional was...well, professional, pleasant, and had almost 20 years of window installation experience; so he knew what he was doing.. I thought he did a very nice job of installing the windows, chalking/insulating, and cleaned up after himself. He arrived @ 7:45 am and was done around 4:00 PM that afternoon. The install did only take one day as originally estimated.
Shortly after the windows were installed, I could feel cold air coming in around the frame of one of the windows. I called Champion, told them of my concern, and they scheduled a rep to come out take a look. The rep arrived on time and looked at the windows I had concerns about. Ended up he was leaving on vacation and couldn't set up an appt. right away, but said he would get back to me as soon as he got back.
Once the Champion rep returned from vacation, about a week later, he called and we set up an appt. to have the windows looked at. On the day of the appt the rep and the installer arrived about 10 minutes early, we talked about my concerns, and I asked to have all the windows outer raps removed, so all the windows could be checked, and re-insulated where needed. They both agreed that would be fine and did not give me a hard time about removing the outer raps on all the windows and inspecting them.
The window I had concerns about did have an issue. The insulating foam used shrunk more than expected and had about a 2" gap in it, that was allowing cold air to get in the house. They re-insulated the window, re-caulked where necessary, and checked the rest of the windows as I had requested.
Overall my experience with Champion Windows has been positive and would use them again. With that said...I still don't care for the "song and dance" they give you when it comes time to give you an estimate. They give you a number, say that it is their "rock bottom" price, and that is the best they can do. Then, a few days later, they will "find" savings to give to you, and will give you another number. Then, a few days later, the same thing. In Champion's defense, ALL the window companies we had give us estimates did the EXACT same thing...all 6 of them. They came to our house for an estimate, gave us an estimate, and then a few days later called us back because they "found" some additional savings for us. So, it must be a window industry norm. Only thing is...you never know if you are getting the absolute best price or if you could have gotten your windows/doors for a few dollars less. My advice is NEVER take the first estimate they give you. Give them a few days and they will call you back with a lower price.
Also, it amazed us, between the 6 companies we had come into our house for estimates, what a range of estimates we got: From $5000 to almost $13,000. So, moral of the story....make sure you get several estimates before going with any window/door company.
