Very easy to work with.

It's all about integrity and accepting responsibility.  Everyone makes mistakes, honest businessmen own up to them.  I brought in a shoulder strap for my new Kate Spade bag that needed to be shortened.  I discussed "how much" and "where", and watched the old guy who runs the place put the tag on the strap where I had placed a line to indicate where the leather needed to be cut.  At the time of pick-up it was discovered that the wrong portion of the two piece strap had been shortened and it was now esthetically impossible to wear the bag in either of the desired positions: neither over one shoulder,nor across my chest.  The old guy offered no solution other than "I shortened the strap". Indeed he had, but in the process he ruined it.  The Kate Spade store has generously stepped in to try to replace the now unusable strap.

Cecil's Shoe Repair did a wonderful job repairing my leather boot (my dog had chewed a chunk out of it and the zipper needed to be replaced). It's almost as good as new, with just a small unnoticeable scar where the repair was done. So thankful and happy with the service!

It was done very well, it was reasonable in price and it's always a pleasure to say hello to Cecil because he's probably about 85 to 86 years old man. He's really the man. He's wonderful, we've been there for 11 years and he just does us a great job and I know I can always depend on what he tells me.

They are excellent. I had taken several pairs in there, and I was impressed with the cost. I almost felt guilty. He is very thorough. He is a professional and knowledgeable. He tells you if can do the job before even accepting the product. So, you kind of know upfront what you are going to get, and he is very trustworthy.

They did good work. They got the work done when they said they would at a reasonable price.

The shop is a classic! Prompt, excellent, professional work. Even wrote down for me a product found at another store that would solve a shoe fit problem I was having.

If we have anything to do with leather that needs repair, refinishing, etc, we go to Cecil's. If it's not worth fixing, he always lets us know.

When I brought the boots in, the suggestion was to add a Vibram sole, which I agreed with and have had on other shoes/boots. When I received the boots back - I felt the craftsmanship was below average: they had to kind of "caulk" a bit at the boot seam to the sole and this work was a bit shoddy in my opinion - it was uneven in spots and the boot no longer looked like a dressier boot given the glue (or whatever they use) was uneven. Also, the suede started to come away at the seam and they kind of glued that as well, and added color to it. Overall the boots did not look good...I used to have an outstanding cobbler in Milwaukee before I moved to Madison, so I admit my quality standards were high. Additionally, if the shoes were too delicate to fix properly, he would not do the work - which may have been the case here. The suede was kind of delicate and if by applying a sole you ruin the look, you should tell the customer this. I will likely look for another cobbler.

It went well. Instead, he just sold me the correct product so I could do it myself, though he said he would do the job for me if I wanted him to. I have been to Cecil's (west side location) many times over the years, usually for shoe repair. Once, I brought in a broken briefcase latch and once a broken suitcase latch. All jobs I've brought to Cecil's have been repaired promptly and well, saving me a lot of money. On one stubborn pair of shoes, the glue job of the sole didn't last (twice) and Cecil kept fixing it for no extra charge until the job was finally good.
