"(member name removed) Thank you, thank you, thank you! You have written a synopsis of what I want my business to be. I used to scoff at the notion of a corporate culture. I purchased Car Care Clinic thirteen years ago. I no longer scoff at the notion of a corporate culture anymore. Got rid of the old and brought in new. I am delighted to hear you are happy. The people that work with me are the best I have worked with in years. I appreciate your business, your trust and your character. You are a very interesting person and I have enjoyed talking to you over the years. Thanks again! Jeff"

Overall the staff were helpful enough and reasonably responsive. The necessary work was performed. However, when I took my car to our dealer for a pre-arranged replacement of the timing belt the day after this repair, the dealer found that the alternator belt Car Care had installed 1) was installed with a tension out of spec and 2) the belt itself was damaged. I called Car Care simply to determine how to proceed (e.g., would they like to replace the belt under warranty?) but was given very rude and sarcastic response that, "Well, obviously the dealer is always right so we'll just refund it" and then the technician hung up the phone. The refund for belt cost (no labor, etc) did come a week or two later.
While I recognize that humans make mistakes, and anyone can have a bad day and not use their best phone manners, this experience exemplifies most of my experiences with Car Care Clinic. This particular repair was associated with a repair from last fall in which a balancer and belts were replaced. In that case, Car Care charged me both for a diagnostic look and for resetting a check engine light that originated when the belt/balancer was damaged (i.e., it should have been reset during the repair and not needed the extra trip/charge). In previous visits I have had A/C repaired only to have to return a few months later to have the problem fixed again (charged both times), and had brakes replaced that seized while driving out of town and needed adjustment by another shop. As an aside, they have never once asked me to see the repaired/replaced parts -- something I expect from a good mechanic.
Each one of these encounters on its own was probably a "B" overall, but the sum total culminating in the most recent experience was enough to drop them to a "D" and for us be done with Car Care Clinic.

"[member name removed], I am very sorry to hear you are unhappy. Yes the mechanic was having a bad day and regrets moving his lips when the thought should have stayed in his head. He did not intentionally hang up the phone on you. There was silence and he thought you had hung up on him. The mechanic you were speaking to did the repair. He is a certified master technician with thirty five years experience. He knew that he had done nothing wrong and was frustrated with the dealer not you. I did not realize you incurred a labor cost in replacing the belt. I was told it was done along with your timing belt and had to be removed and reinstalled to do that job. I do have problems with what you have written about your other repairs performed here. The only association between your balancer repair and your alternator repair is that they both ruined your belt. One was caused by your harmonic balancer failing and the other was caused by your alternator seizing. The resetting of the check engine light was not in any way related to the balancer failing. It was a code for the mass air flow sensor having problems. We reset it and told you to drive the car and see if the light came on again. If it did we would have rechecked it at no cost for the next sixty days. If it was related to the repairs we had done it would have been taken care of at no cost. In regards to your air conditioner repair. The system came in very low on refrigerant. We evacuated and recharged the system and looked for leaks. None were apparent at the time of service. It is our normal policy to schedule a return trip in two weeks to recheck for leaks. Leaks can be so small they are never found. I don't know any other way of handling air conditioner repair when no obvious leak is found. The first visit you were charged for the evacuation and recharge. The second visit you were charged to repair the leak that was found. You were not charged to do the evacuation and recharge again. I know nothing of your problems with your brakes seizing. If you would have notified us of the problem we would have reimbursed you if there was a problem with something we did. If I don't hear anything I can't do anything about it. It is state law that any parts replaced must be available for the customer to inspect. After the vehicle is gone it is legal to dispose of them. We have some customers that ask for their parts and some don't. There is a box next to the line you sign on the repair order requesting your old parts. We are happy at any time to provide owners with their old parts. We generally don't make a point of asking people if they want their old parts. Most people have no interest in them. The people that do make it very clear to us they want them. I operate an honest shop and we always do what is in the best interest of the customer. We are careful how much and what is charged for. We are not the most expensive shop nor the cheapest. It is always painful and sad to have an unhappy customer. Once again I apologize for the mechanics slip of the tongue. I sincerely wish you the best and hope you find a shop that performs to your expectations."

"Thank you for the kind words. We attempt to provide above average diagnostics and repairs in a timely manner and a reasonable cost. We beleive we are not the cheapest or the most expensive place. We try to provide a quality repair experience. We hit that mark a majority of the time and hear nothing. We appreciate you giving us the opportunity to repair your car and taking the time to review us. We know there are many other places to get your car repaired and we sincerely appreciate you bringing your car to us. Sincerely, Jeff A Jensen"

I brought my 2006 Taurus in for a possible problem in the exhaust system that was causing a noise. Jeff checked the system and diagnosed the problem within an hour: a metal element had come loose and could be easily replaced. There was also a small leak in the exhaust, which I'd had tentatively diagnosed by a relative, and Jeff suggested fixing it within the next few months for approximately $80-$90. He only charged me for the labor to check the exhaust system, and was both pleasant and straightforward with me throughout the whole process. I was so pleased with the service, the shop itself, and the hours (I was able to come in on a Saturday). I will definitely bring our cars to this provider in the future!

"Thank you *****. Auto repair is something that requires trust between the customer and the repair shop. We approach repairing the car from the owners viewpoint. We take your safety and monetary interests into consideration. There are some things that are not as important as others and some things that are dangerous. Nobody is calling us from a corporate office to tell us we are not selling enough. ( Like doctors before HMO's started running your health care.) We appreciate your business and will always have your interests first. Sincerely, Jeff A. Jensen"

I was glad to see they are open on Saturday mornings. They had some other cars in the garage when I arrived, but still managed to diagnose the problem and complete my repairs very quickly, which was a lifesaver because my wife and I had an important family event out of town that afternoon. Their rates seem reasonable, based on this repair and an estimate I requested for some upcoming scheduled maintenance.

I initially thought that I had blown out some gaskets in my power steering.  I had trashed the whole system by adding power steering fluid to get me through the weekend which was a poor choice!  I brought the vehicle to Car Care Clinic and they diagnosed the problem.  I called other places and what they were charging for labor and parts were cheaper than the other garages and dealers I contacted.  It took a day after I approved the work to complete all the work.  I highly recommend Terry and his crew at The Car Care Clinic!

They are very good. We use them all the time. I even took my newer car in to have the license plate put on and he did that for free. He is always really nice. We've had lots of work done there. If we buy a used car, we always take it to him to look at before we buy it. His prices are reasonable. He is very timely and always gets back to us before he does anything. He doesn't jack up the prices and he tries to save us money.

My car started to have some usual noise when running.  Went to this shop and they figured it was due to a wheel bearing that start to show its age. Would cost a few hundreds to fix which I was ready to pay for. However, the very nice part was that the technician actually recommended not to have it repaired for now as it was still minor and not a safety concern. That was very different from  the push sale practice I experienced in many other places.
I ended up paying for only 15 minutes of labor.
The technician also adjusted my coolant filling level, which I over filled,  for free.

Another area shop refused to work on our broken A/C, saying it would be too difficult to diagnose and fix.  Car Care Clinic had no problems with this task.  Initially they refilled the system with freon and asked that I return in two weeks so they could look for any leaks.  As expected, two weeks later they found a leak and were able to repair it, inexpensively.  At the same time, at my request, they diagnosed and repaired a suspension clunk and worn wheel bearing.  Basically they did exactly what I wanted them to do and at a reasonable cost.  I have been going there for two years and will continue to do so.

I have seen them for over 30 years and I love going to the guy who owns the company. He gets things done on time; and the employees are articulate and know what they are doing. They explain things and I have total confidence in all of the employees. They pay attention to detail and I will use them again in the future.

Response from Car Care Clinic
"I am sorry to hear that this client is unhappy with our recommendations. The vehicle at the time was 15 years old and 60,000 miles. It should not come as too large of a shock that the rubber belts and hoses would be recommended for replacement. The reason that you change belts and hoses all at once is to save money on the replacement and to have a reliable vehicle. If you wait for each belt to break individually or wait for each hose to blow individually. You drive up the replacement cost approximately five times and you have an unreliable vehicle. We always treat the vehicles as if they are our own. I do know that our prices are not the cheapest in town, nor are they they highest. We will continue to recommend what we feel is in the best interests of our customers. I sincerely hope that she has found a place that she feels more comfortable."
