It went well. We had them back twice. They responded quickly, came early and completed the work in a timely manner. While we would like to have had the side boards and rises on the stairway included, we were clearly told that they didn't do this work. The price and responsiveness were great.

We had extensively discussed that we wanted the new wood floor to as closely match our existing floor as possible. We therefore interleaved some recovered oak long boards with newer product. This blended well and had the desired effect of mimicking foundation settling in the rest of the house leading to some wider spaces between a few boards. However, based on this, he assumed that we wanted what he called a "rustic" look, and claimed that the person who installed the floors had told him this. The installer confirmed that he said no such thing. However, based on this assumption, Gary did none of the usual patching of nail holes, chipped floor board edges, and a miss-cut board end. As a result, we have gross defects in areas including exposed nail holes, the chipped edges (which catch on stocking feet and risk full splintering off of pieces of wood, and the previously mentioned misscut board the installer placed. The lack of these normal repairs was only noted after he had stained the floor, and when this was pointed out, he said he would have to resand and restain the floor after patching it and implied that this would require additional charges, though did not state this explicitly. Even so, he charged us the normal rate (as if he had done that patching), despite previous conversations in which he was quite clear that if he had to do extensive patching due to the use of recovered oak, he would likely have to charge us more. We agreed to that higher cost in the original job request.
We had also asked that an extended flat threshold be sanded flush with the boards. I went so far as to use a computer drawing program to diagram what part of the threshold needed to be sanded flush. He did this, but he also sanded the raised threshold immediately below French doors which separate the room. We had wanted that left alone given that it matched the existing doors. In the process of doing this unwanted sanding, it was sanded unevenly (leaving visible raised edges due to holding the sander in one place and grinding too far down). In addition, the sanding effort damaged the existing floor outside of the room remodel, the floor which we were trying to match. This damage was not noted until after we had paid in full and he had left. It had been beneath blue tape which had been placed over it. He later stated that his assistant must have caused the damage despite his having told the assistant not to do the sanding if he could not do it well.
While Gary was willing to return in order to sand, stain and refinish the areas of damage, we were so disappointed in the professionalism that we did not wish to have him back. In fact, we continue to consider finding a different floor sander/stainer/finisher redo the whole project.
While we did call Gary to explain our frustration and encouraged him to clarify the misscomunication with the installer, and Gary expressed regret at having a disappointed customer, he made no move to discuss a partial refund or other solution to the problems (like the boards now catching socks), despite our having expressly stated that a refund was in order due to having charged full-price for sanding and staining which normally entails patching nail holes and other minor blemishes, as well as the charge for sanding the threshold we did not want sanded. We have asked the installer to stop recommending him.

Gary did a great job! Gary gave me a very competitive estimate that included 3 coats of polyurethane while similar estimates provided 2 coats. The sanding went really well with minimal dust and the floors were sanded completely to the base boards and around several doors frames. The floors look fantastic! Gary has been doing floors since he was 14 and I would definitely have him come back to do additional floors. I would recommend him for refinishing your hardwood floors.

I did not expect a provider to be able to respond so quickly to our request. We asked Gary if he could finish the floors in two bedrooms by the end of the following week. We set a day and time. He arrived on time and finished the job in time.
We thought the floors were plain pine but it turned out to be a low grade of maple. It had much more character than we expected.
The floors looked gorgeous!! It was a job well done at a very reasonable price especially considering the fast response time.

have in the house because they have such great personalites. Not only do they know what to do regarding the work on the floors, they know how to work with people. They brought joy to the whole house each and every day.
When choosing a stain for the floors they worked very closely with us to make sure the color would be just right. He must have made up twenty different stain colors for us. In the end we got the color we wanted.
We were fortunate to find that Gary was still doing hardwood floors. He did an exceptional job for us and we are sure he will for you..We could not be happier. We enthusiastically recommend Ace Floor Sanding.

Gary, was always punctual and professional. His prices were great and his work is beautiful. We can also, say that it holds up year after year. The downstairs is as beautiful as it was when it was done 24 years ago.

Oil product used. it is the best product, smells more initially but provides a better surface.
Sanding process produces a lot of dust. cover everything or tarp off the area.

They responded to the initial phone call and quote the same week. Work was performed the following week on time and within the price quote.
