Rich did a wonderful job, start to finish. He was very prompt and informative with his bid, and was easy to work with as we made decisions about what work to complete as we weighed costs and benefits. We wanted to make improvements because we'd had water damage from ice damming in a home with a refinished, but poorly insulated, attic. Our goal was to make certain we didn't face that kind of damage again. Rich is clearly very good at what he does, and a wonderful, hard working human being on top of that. It would be difficult to think of anything that could be improved. We completed this work in conjunction with an energy audit and reward program through our local utility company. The program's report estimated that we had reduced our energy use by 20%, and we got a very good reimbursement to help cover the cost of the work. The only problem is that the improvement was so good that we were targeted for an audit by the local and state-level energy programs to confirm the results! Now that almost a year has passed, and we're in the middle of the record-breaking "polar-vortex" Jan 2014 weather, we can reliably report on how the insulation has impacted our attic space. On the roof, we have only two corners that have had minor ice buildup. One of these is above the front door, where we knew the wall had a strange air gap that had proven difficult to fill (other companies who bid on the insulation job also said this would be a difficult spot). Prior to insulating, we used a space heater in the upstairs bedroom throughout the winter, as well as an electric blanket. We haven't needed the space heather at all since insulating. The room (which has NO air duct, so is not directly heated) temperature now remains in the range (without a space heater) that we used to need the space heater to accomplish -- even in the frigid temperatures we're having this January. Having Rich do this work was the best decision we made in 2013!
