After 18 years, our roof was nearing its end of life and needed to be replaced as the shingles were losing a lot of granules and starting to curl just a bit. Rather than apply a second layer, we opted to do a tear-off. We contacted several companies and received estimates from three. Dykeman Roofing had the lowest price while still using excellent quality materials comparable to those in other estimates (GAF Timberline HD shingles). In talking with Dave before signing the contract, I was impressed with his casual and knowledgeable answers to my questions. I felt very comfortable that he and his crew would do a great job and I wasn't disappointed.
Dave accurately estimated that they would be able to start work in about a week, weather permitting, and he and his crew showed up as scheduled following delivery of a dumpster. He has a small crew of 2-3 men and they immediately began the tear off. We had exceptionally hot weather during the time they were working, and they were on the job before 7 a.m. and off the roof by early afternoon each day. We have a good sized roof (42 squares) and the job took about a week to complete. I suspect it would have been done a day or two sooner if the heat hadn't been such a problem.
During the tear-off, Dave discovered that a number of the roof vents were blocked with insulation or wasp nests and suggested that, instead of replacing the vents as originally estimated, he plug the vent holes and cut in a ridge ventilation system. I approved the work and it was professionally completed at a very reasonable price. The clean look of the roof is much more attractive and gives our home additional curb appeal.
Dave and his crew left the site broom clean each day before leaving and did a nice job of final cleanup. We found a few small pieces of roofing materials here and there in the landscaping but nothing of any significance. All in all, we were very pleased with the workmanship and price and would not hesitate to use Dykeman Roofing again.
