We hired Jason Nichols/JT Home Improvement to remodel our master bathroom, re-grout our kitchen floor, install two laundry cabinets and move a dryer vent. The bathroom job was completed in January and all seemed well at the time, so we hired Jason in June to help us with some kitchen/laundry updates. At the same time we hired him, we noticed that the bathroom floor (travertine tiles and grout) crack. The results of these projects have been extremely disappointing (problems are below). During a time period of seven weeks, Jason told us that he would ?make the situation right? and on six separate occasions did not show up to do the work or call us as he promised. These were dates that he chose as we were trying to be accommodating to his schedule. Our last conversation via the telephone (July 15) was disturbing as he was yelling at me, telling me that I was being unreasonable. (I was asking him to repari the damage he did to my house.) I told him that the way in which he was talking to me was completely inappropriate and unprofessional. He later apologized (four times) and promised to call on July 26. He did not call on July 26. He texted me on July 27 saying he would call me, he never called. Bathroom Floor: The travertine floor tile and grout has cracked after 6 months of installation. More specifically, one crack runs in a straight line through six adjacent tiles while another crack runs straight through four tiles. Four other tiles and grout lines are cracked. Jason told us that he thinks the cracks are due faulty tiles. After our research (interviews with The Tile Shop and experienced tile contractor Jeff Adair and referencing the technical section of the Tile Council of North America?s website www.tileusa.com), we believe the reason for cracked grout and tile is that Jason did not use thin-set between the subflooring and cement board. He admitted to us that he did not use thin-set between the subfloor and cement board. When I informed him that we (my husband Tom and I) believed that the cracks were due to faulty tile (July 15), he began yelling at me and using an unprofessional tone. Dryer Vent: We sent Jason our new dryer model number so he could reference the installation guidelines. Instead of installing the minimum 4 inch dryer vent in the floor, he installed 3.5?. We then asked him purchase an extended (at his expense) so the dryer hose could fit onto the dryer vent. His solution was to tape the hose onto the vent. We contacted him to tell him this was not acceptable as the manufacturer?s installation guidelines specifically state to use a clamp for attachment and specify not to use tape. He did not resolve this problem. Kitchen Floor: Jason asked if he could use a subcontractor to grout our floor. We told him that we were not comfortable with using a sub. He said he would guarantee the work. We eventually agreed. When applying the grout, the subcontractor did not remove/wipe off the grout in a timely fashion. In addition, he damaged our baseboards and kitchen cabinets by not removing the grout. Jason was able to remove most of the grout residue with an acid wash, however the grout lines are messy and unattractive. The baseboards are still covered in grout. We estimate our damages to our house to be approximately $12,000 to $14,000. My recommendation - do not use this guy!
Description of Work: In November, we signed a contract to completely remodel our bathroom with JT Home Improvements/Jason Nichols. Removed all cabinets, toilet, sink, bathtub, shower unit to replace with new cabinetry, new tiled shower, new tiled floor. In June, we hired JT Home Improvements/Jason Nichols to regrout kitchen floor and move dryer vent.
