I kept reiterating that while we knew we would have to replace the entire system this summer, my husband was not at home and would be traveling for the next week or so. I was heavily pressured to make a commitment to purchase a new system despite that. I paid over $600 for the services listed above and kind of suspected that it was high. Couple that with the fact that immediately after all the work was done, the entire system conked out completely the first time I turned it on.
Obviously, we needed a new central ac unit, but I was reluctant to go back to Haselow's. Instead, I had several different companies come out and take a look and give me estimates. Each and every one of them was more than $2000 cheaper than the quote the service person from Haselow's gave me. In addition, I made a copy of their work order for the tune-up. I covered the logo of the company and showed the price and the work done to each of these other companies. Without fail, each of them told me that the pricing was way out of line. They were all very professional about how they phrased it but the general consensus was that I was ripped off. Have to wonder if it would have been the same high pressure/high cost tactics if my husband had been at home. We'll never know - and you can cross this company off your list if you're looking for anyone to handle your heating or ac needs.
