I was puzzled by how birds were able to enter my house, but eventually learned it was from a hole in the chimney. Needless to say, I wanted this fixed quickly! I first called a chimney cleaning/repair firm well known in this area. Long story short - they were a disaster!. So I called Paul, whom I had used previously to do work on my house. Unlike the previous firm, he totally understood what my issues was, and promptly came out to give me an estimate. Once agreeing to the price (it was a difficult spot to get to, way at the top of the chimney), he came out within a few days and fixed it! No more birds in the house!
I appreciated the way he was able to squeeze me into his busy schedule, and the promptness in which he responded to my emails/phone calls. Paul is reliable, dependable, and completely professional. I would use him again in a heartbeat!
This is the second time I have employed Paul, and his work was just as good as the first time. He had to do some creative work to make the new area of stone blend into the old stone work, and have the mortar also match. I am very happy with the work he did.
There was a minor incident when removing the old balcony post which resulted in some damage (given this is a very old house and neither of us knew how the balcony posts were attached, I do not think it was his fault). However, Paul repaired at promptly at his cost, and he really wanted to make sure I was satisfied with the results. This incident made me think very highly of him - it is easy to be a good contractor when everything goes well, but the true test is when something unexpected crops up like this.
I was concerned about some cracks in the mortar of my stone house. I called Paul and he promptly came out to do an estimate. I knew one window lintel was going bad, and he evaluated the others to see which ones really needed to be replaced, and which ones could last longer. I really appreciated that he did not try and pressure me into replacing more than necessary. He also pointed out a glass block window in the basement that had cracked, and offered to repair that.
As soon as the weather allowed, Paul came out and worked on the house. He worked for several days until it was completed. He cleaned up after the work and did a wonderful job matching the color of the mortar. He was extremely professional, and I would/will call him again when I need more work done.
Paul is always a pleasure to deal with and we are so pleased with the new sills. I have since referred him to a neighbor. He is a one man + apprentice operation, so I recommend allowing time for him to get back with you as he is usually hands-on with projects during the day.
